What is your opinion of the draft?

Now that we are at war again the subject of the draft had been brought up. The Governor of Asphinxia has even authorized the use of conscription in some of that province's cities!
This is an opinion poll aimed at determining the general thoughts of Phoenatics on this subject.
While this poll does not contain a specific proposal it is my hope that this poll will be used as the basis for our official selective service policy.

You may choose only one option in this poll.

This poll will be open for three days.

We can only afford to draft from selected cities, those which are growing quickly and not too large or major centres of production and trade. Drafted infantry would act best as a 'home guard', gefending relatively secure positions while our regulars and veterans advance on the front line. As governor of Asphinxia I have offered 3 cities from which a small draft could be taken, and I urge all other provincial governors to do the same.

All cities above size 9 should draft 2 citisens when mech infantry is available.Put them in the border cities toghether with 3 infantry

Hell, no! We won't go. Personally I'm against the draft. The Production of our cities is strong enough to support our War effort. We are now in the process of switching over to Military production, and this will add to our already strong Armed Forces.

If by chance drafting is accepted and a selective service policy is written supporting the draft, I would recommend drafting from smaller cities, as a smaller number of citizens would be taken per unit (quicker pop recuperation) and because city size will not affect unit strength.

The draft should only be used when invasion of a city is about to occur. Happiness shouldn't be an issue; we have more than enough luxury resources, and with marketplaces, we can keep 20 people happy.

Voting for "Conscription: draft only if we start losing the war", since I do not like the idea of compelling our citizens to fight against their will. However, I like the idea of them becoming slaves of the Iroqois even less! If it becomes the only way of preventing our destruction then I will support it, otherwise I am opposed.

If we actually get in trouble fighting the Iroquois, we should then begin drafting, though I do not think this will happen, given the productivity of our nation. Conscript troops are easily defeated, even by inferior opponents and should not be counted on to defend our cities unless absolutely necessary.

I am voting "Draft in Selected Cities Only" as I think it provides the right balance of providing the Military the resources it needs to end the war quickly with not hurting growing cities that cannot afford to lose critical population. I also expect that the Government will weigh carefully the needs of the Army and the needs of cities for production.

I think this best supports the goal of a quick war to avoid war weariness while keeping the focus on our country's scientific and production efforts.

Only draft when losing. I don't see why we should draft when it's not necessary.

I don't think we have any problems with unhappiness (though the war is still young). If we keep the drafting to a minimum, perhpaps no more than one city, I think we can well afford it. A few draftees can cover unguarded cities, beef up newly captured cities, cover hot spots, free up the more highly trained troops for fronts, and quell resistance.
