should we use the new patch as soon as it is available?

yes, wait, no, abstain (self-explanatory)

poll up for 2 days.

yes, immidiately after the relase, as we should also change our game when the civ3-rules change. and also, some will not be able to look at the game any more if we dont do so.

No, wait to see if its' stable before using it. Remember the 1.17 to 1.21 upgrade? My trade deals were different than those who had 1.21 (since I hadn't upgraded yet).

You should paste and copy the benefits of the new patch here (maybe the pitfalls too). And chieftess is right, we should wait until the users assure us its stable.

voted to wait, for the same reasons posted by Chieftess & Cyc

I'm with the Prez and most others on this one. I'd say wait for 3 days and then poll to populace.
By then most whiners have posted complaints and any compliments or solutions have been posted as well.
Perhaps play the next turn with 1.21 and then poll and decide. We could wait for a few extra days in between turns to decide.

Going through the readme quickly, here is a list I made of possible effects of upgrading to 1.29:

* Added Fortify All and Wake All right-click menu commands.

* Added "Always Renegotiate Deals" prefs which forces a renegotiation of every non-peace treaty deal every 20 turns.

* Added the ability to rename units if they produce a great leader during combat. The player is given a popup to name this unit.

* Removed compression from auto saves.

* Changed Military Advisor to evaluate armies based on relative strengths of units as opposed to number of units.

* Rumoured changes to Commercial civs (may affect other nations), and AI improvements

There is not much in it that would really affect our game, IMHO. Perhaps some bug fixes and code improvements might make the game more stable.

The biggest factor is probably when we use the CoC, we must play with the same version. Since many Civ3 owners will likely upgrade to 1.29, anyone who plays will have to use 1.21 until we swtich. The change of patches is a simple procedure, but can cause confusion and mistakes can be made. Hopefully, with the President maintaining a great attendance record, the confusion will stay low.

Let's wait and see if there are any problems with the new patch before we use it in the demo game.

I voted change immedianly... otherwise I won't be able to look/play the game.

We should be able to look at a 1.21 game with 1.29. Saves are backwards compatible.

Then I won't be able to play it tommorow.... I think CT isn't going to be their which puts me next in the COC.

Don't let that scare you Strider. ;)

I voted change it before, and I stick by it now.

CT: What's to be scared about. I was saying that I wouldn't be able to play the game, because I now have 1.29f installed.

That's my vain attempt at humor. :)

Anyway, in the 'poly *gasp* chat, one of the Firaxians said that playing a 1.21 game on 1.29 may have some issues. I think with trading too.
