INFORMATIONAL POLL

for the RPG aspect and i also think for the game itself, would it make sense to have all appointed and proclaimed positions being run thru an acceptance poll with no quorum and single majority needed?

those would propably be (examples to be expanded):
* mayors
* head of census office
* head of chat office
* head of any other office
* appointed governors
* appointed leaders and deputies
* chat representatives
...

the poll will be informational to use for further discussion. please also vote yes if you want this, but the acceptance poll rules dont fit, as they should be discussed. Also vote yes if any other details dont fit yet, as they will then be discussed before a decission poll will be held.

the poll will have yes, no, abstain and will be up for 3 days.

The official citizen's polls are reserved for those positions that has an actual impact on the gameplay. There are almost always imformational polls when an official is appointed. And as for Mayors, they are honorary positions in essence and need not be elected.

josh: wrong. no approval poll is needed for appointed posisions (at least i didnt find it in the constitution)
the sense of this poll is not to repeat the constitution but to gain info if our citizenry wants all official positions to be approved on appointal.
for example if you have a problem with the census officer, there is no way for you to remove him out of the office, even if you are a department leader (as his office is defined nowhere). with approval polls you could initially prevent some people form gaining an office and also prevent self-declaration of offices (which happened this game).

this may not directly effect gameplay, but it drastically effects the income balances of the rpg feature. but on the other side: if the census officer just goes mad, it would also effect gameplay somehow and you would have no means to remove him (except he violates the forum rules).

Hmm, assuming the "mad census officer" is a hypothetical, I'll just move on.

The election process (especially the tight race with Zarn) brought up at least the potential for good dialogue and an opportunity for two relative newcomers to get involved. I'm for the election poll as long as there is a backup system for filling or covering vacant/unsought-after positions

I don't see the need for all these approval polls for non-essential positions. They are just clutter. Appointment and election are two viable means of filling an office. If an existing official wants to run an informational poll to gather information, that's their option. Requiring an approval poll on top of that or one for every position would just be to much. I voted no. I thought this RPG thing was going to be transparent?

I see no need for citizen approval. If someone wants to volunteer to do some work we should thank them not make a poll about them. I would say though that if there is more than one volunteer for a job where only one person can hold the title (like mayor) then there should be some sort of vote.
