I was so waiting for it, I decided to make it myself !

Was'nt easy ! I had to learn a few things, like 3D modeling basis (I started that on Rhino which is pretty good so far, and gives a good tutorial for beginners like me !). It tooks me 2 weeks to get through it, but here is the first final preview.

This is the Merkava 4, last born of the israeli class tank. As the matter of fact, it is their new main battle tank. It is one of the most powerfull in the world. It has been built in order to give the maximum chances for the crew to survive. For example, the engine is in the front, to take the first shock of a direct shot.

I'm going now to make animations, and this could take a time, but I give you this, just for the wait.

Thanks to IceBlaze who requested this first and gave a lot of informations, pictures and blueprints. You can see them to this thread.
And thank you to those who helped me so far (in the same thread). I'm gonna need you again soon for sure ! ;)

:goodjob: Great job on the unit, Cant wait for its releace.

I think it the civ3 size is too big, but its a SWEET!!! unit :D

whoa is that the actual game size screen? cause if it is it may be to big...I dont want a huge Merkava next to a mini modern infantry...BUT OTHER THAN THAT ID SAY IT LOOKS AWSOME ;)

So did u build this in rhino???

Cool work!

If you didn't say that you are a beginner, i would say you are a verteran who alreadey made many tanks!

Looks really good! :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

Thank you all !!

I made it on a more raisonable size. Tell if its ok.

Looks great, I may still eventualy do a MKIII, so that for scenarios you can have progression from one to the other.
The animations should be fairly easy, though I don't know if rhino allows transparent objects. Don't be afraid of making the unit a little smaller still; with your fist unit it is natural to want to include as much detail as possible, and make it as big as you want (see my atempt at a tiger II, it was huge!), but after a while you realize that smaller tanks look better in the game, cos they fit better with the others, and look beter in the animations. I guess thats about the right size, but maybe 5-10% smaller, you wouldn't even notice. :)

Also are you sure you dont want to make the chevrons (arrows on side) civ coloured? What colour would you make the Isreal Civ, dark blue like on the flag?

Well I was thinking about that.

I'm sorry but I REALLY want to keep it yellow. That's... idealistic ! :) The V is yellow on the real tank, and it would be better to keep it this way.
But I made something up for the civ specific color. I just had one surface in blue...
See attachment.

I made the new size by comparing my unit with the modern armor, and I think the size is ok. Maybe 5-10% smaller. You won't even notice... ;)

that makes me wanna learn how to make units, can you post a link to the tutorials you used?

It is included into the Rhino application itself.
Of course it is a Rhino oriented tutorial, and I don't think it is applicable on another prog, since it gives some tips about using the modeling tools and not on a general way to make 3D models.

Outstanding job - if you can animate it, you'll have a real winner.

Go, go, go! It's really time for the Mercava! Great work!

One thing. The turret looks as if it's falling off. Apart from that super!!

That's because the front surface is inclined. It's not horizontal. That's why you have that feeling.

The real one is just like that ! That's what make it a bit atypical.

thanks for the size adjustment B Very nice tank. Im glad SM is still doing his Merkava It will be nice to have 2 versions of it
