Newbie Questions 2 - post them in THIS thread please!

How do I upload files via the easy uplaod feature, and how can I link to them??????

1) make sure the file is aof an allowed type (*.jpg, *. zip, be carefull with *.SAV). Renmae the file to something that is probably not yet taken (uploading a file names savegmae.zip will result in it having to be renamed. if you instead name it AoAsAIcheatproof.zip it is very likely the name isn't taken yet.)

2) on the bottom of every page there is a link to the easy upload feature:
upload2.jpg

when you click it you get a window:

upload3.jpg

click browse, select the file(s) on your PC, then click upload. The maximum of files you can upload via one window is 3.

3) now you just have to post a link. ype your post as you always do. whre the link is supposed to show, type (without th *s):

Question here: Does anyone know the link to or have a program hack that would allow you to extend the mandatory retirement year? It irks me that the game starts getting good when I have to retire. Of course some people finish REALLY early and think it's probably unnecessary.

hbdragon - Yes you can change the retirement year! You need to download a saved game editor. I'll post a link to a thread where this issue came up before and in there is a screenshot and a link to a saved game editor. In the screenshot I pointed out that you could change the current date (like going back in time, but getting to keep all your cities, units, etc. but this may cause problems with figuring out culture, etc.). Or you can change the 'Game ends in' box. After 2050 A.D. the game just keeps going at the pace of 1 year/turn.

I'm still confused by what those little envelopes next to the thread titles mean. :wallbash: I see a closed red evenlope with a seal, an opened red envelope with a seal, an opened red evelope with a seal with papers in it sticking out, a white envelope opened with one paper in it, a white enevelope with a seal opened with one paper in it, a closed white evenlope with no seal, a closed red enevelop with no seal.......:aargh: somebody explain these!

The ones with seal indicate you've posted or replied in them. The colors of the envelops indicate how often that thread had been read/replied or something IIRC.

As for the open or closed envelop, hmmm..... no idea yet.

PS This is better asked in Site Feedback.

Dragon, I thought you would say the open envelop means garish and the closed envelop means not garish. :D
Sorry, just hacking on ya bro.

I see some people talking about the "reputation hit" or something like that. Could somebody explain me what it is?

A rep hit is the damage done to your reputation (as viewed by the AI) by doing dastardly things like reneging on a deal, or using an ROP to attack an unsuspecting enemy (also termed a ROP Rape). At least that is the general theory, in practice it can be easy to ruin your reputation with the AI without even knowing it. A good example of this is declaring war after a deal has expired but without cancelling the deal first. Another is that if you have a deal with a AI civ for a resource and the AI loses the resource you have been trading for then you will suffer a reputation hit as the AI's view you as having broken the trade agreement. There are many good threads on this topic it may help you to do a search w/ keyword: reputation

My friend conjectures that when a city is captured then some buildings are destroyed. He seems to be convinced that this is the case and I don't have sufficient evidence to doubt that it is so. So assuming this is true, is there any way to change the probability that a building is destroyed when a city is captured?

When you capture a city, culture buildings are gone. (Temple, Colosseum, Cathedral, etc.) You have to build your own culture from scratch. Non-culture buildings may remain (depending on what you destroyed with bombardment ;) ), like barracks, graneries, etc.

And if you scroll down to the bottom of a forum page, you will see a legend that explains all this. (Except for the "seal" indicating you have posted.)

I have already seen the legend before, which only explains about 5 of the 10 or more possibilities. But anyway, thanks for clarifying.

I do not believe that a unit can retreat from another fast unit, regardless of whether the move is 2, 3 or higher (in mods)

Padma:

Are you sure that all culture buildings are destroyed? Its rare but I think that I have had temples and cathedrals survive an occupation, but I am not sure of this. I think that a certain % (50) of buildings are automatically destroyed when you capture a city. This may be a Civ 2 flashback though......

Hold on. [Bomber checks his Civ3 manual]

Well I can't find anything in the manual, so if anyone out there has more info on this please post.

For Battlefield Medicine to work, the damaged unit must be fortified for one turn, correct? I need clarification.

How much does a 1000-year age bonus for a cultural bonus reap per turn?

Should I use the "Culturally-linked locations" option or not?

Mad Bomber - Yes all culture improvements (not wonders) are destroyed. However, the culture points that had already accumulated from that city gets saved should the civ be able to take the city back. If not, than it is a bug. You need to build your own temples (for example) to generate culture for your own civ.

hbdragon - culture doubles after the building/wonder has been in a city for 1000 years. So a 2 cp/turn building would double to 4 cp/turn for every turn after it has been 1000 years old. An 8cp wonder would double to 16 cp/turn!

Hbdragon:

A unit dos not need to be fortified to take advantage of battlefield medicine but it must not take any action for a turn, then the next turn it will have healed 1 HP.

Bamspeedy:

I know that a captured cultural improvement will not give you any culture, but I did think it was possible to have them survive, but this explains why I lose harbors in my modded game after a conquest as i have modded them to give 1 CP (tourism and increased trade)
