Just curoius if anyone has ever been involved in a nuclear war with another civ.

I tried to get the A.I. to launch some nukes at me just to see if he would actually do it after a dropped a couple on their capital and another one of their 25+ sized city. No response but to only continue the fight.

It took the Japanese 2 nukes in the real world to surrender now why won't the AI either give up or launch it's own nukes at me. I dare 'em.....

never been nuked by AI and nuked plenty myself

Yep, both occasions were after I nuked them first. Fortunately, the first time I had SDI and knocked all three nukes out. The second time the AI (Rome) nuked my capital. Bastard! I soon nuked Rome's capital and razed it! :)

I've been nuked by them before both as a response and as a first strike.

same here. The first time they pulled a first strike really surprised me.

Nukes are senseless. Only if you're already at war should you nuke and only if you absolutely need to.

It can mess your rep badly. Look at it! You're killing thousands for no reason!

Plus the ww2 jap bombing was the only case in history when the us wasn't a coward. The us acually tried to kick @$$ (and did:D ).
Now its all 'diplomatic' today. I wan't osama to fry:mad: !!!!!

Sorry, but the japanese didn't surrender because of the american terrorist nukes...
They already surrendered, the americans launched the nukes to show USSR their "power"
And it's quite normal the AI countering your nukes...

Yep, Been there done that but in my defense I nuked them because they were winning the space race and I wasn't about to lose:D

Gugalpm:

Er sorry, but the US did not drop the bomb on Japan to show off for the USSR, we did it to end the war. Japan was given 10 days to surrender before the second was dropped. It took a direct threat to nuke Tokyo (a bluff) in order for Hirohito to agree to surrender. Stalin was informed of the existance and the effects of the bomb at the Potsdam conference, including pictures of the test drop in Navada.

Mad Bomber,

Thanks for clarrifying for Gugalpm why the United States of America actually dropped 2 nuclear bombs on Japan.

Gugalpm, although in recent years it has been very popular to re-write history to demonize or glorify past events I think this kind of behavior is best left in the fantasy world like Civilization III. You can't change the past in the real world but you sure can in Civ III.

I once had the AI launch 4 consecutive nuclear attacks on one city the first 3 got blown by my sdi but the last one got through. i made sure they never would do it again by wiping them off the face of the planet;)

Yes, it was a hilarious first strike attack by Persia when I was invading their continent with swarming tanks. Hilarious because I had built the missile shield and so they fired about 16 shots at me and only one got through and hit my capital (which was a tragedy, but I showed up there with a bullhorn and said: "They started it, but we are going to finish it")- Hilarious because I had enough nukes to hit every single Persian city and save ten for later, which is exactly what I did. You should have seen the global warming. Pretty vicious for a peacenik!

yep, playing deity as china in a huge pangea map. it's modern age and i have no modern age weapons but i do have impressive tanks+artillery+tanks. i decided to go against the egyptians with their 8 ICBMS, 7 tacticals, 224 mech inf and 60 tanks. i paid everyone off to get into the war and i was making headway into
egytian territory, merrily razing and planting my cities (they have a slight problem seeing as their territory lies astride the aztecs and they can't get their troops up north fast enough).
after several turns of them losing a stack of doom after the next against artillery+tanks, they decided to nuke me and it's pretty bad. they nuked 7 of my cities in my core industrial areas including the FP. thankfully they didn't touch the capital this time. their huge navy just arrived on my shores around the capital and i don't have any submarines to see whether they have tacs loaded already. in fact i don't have a navy at all.

i'll probably post a screenshot or a save when i get around to it.

what really gets me is that my so called allies didnt respond appropriately to this barbaric behaviour.

game's still on but i have to plan carefully so i'm waiting to get morale to continue.

AFAIK, Japan already offered their surrender, but America refused and nuked them (although they weren't completely aware of the huge destructive power of those nukes)

Japan did no such and neither did america. Truman did not want to drop the bomb he did it to save american lives, had we continued thousnads of soldiers wouldve died. Truman took the lesser of the two evils. Its sad we had to use the A-Bomb but it was used. On another note, the AI has yet to nuke me but ive seen them nuke their neigbors alot

from what i know, the Us nuked them because an attack with soldiers would have been very deadly.

Even after both nukes were droped, they still didnt surrender, it took a battle between the reminance of both navies to decide if Japan would surrender, and when they were defeated, THEN the surrendered. The battle of Midway it was.

Adlots;

You are misinformed on your history. Midway occured in 1942, the bombs were dropped in 1945 and the Japanese fleet was already destroyed. Japan was already defeated, Hirohito refused to surrender until he was told that Tokyo would be the next target. Japan had offered conditional surrenders, this is true, but these were unacceptable even if we did not have the bomb. We only had two options to end the war. Nuke Japan or invade Japan. Strangely as this may sound, Nuking Japan saved not only American lives, but Japanese lives as well.

i have the nuked one of m lone cities by uranium but i had other cities with uranium so i was alright

The AI's never nuked me, and I've never seen a need to nuke myself. I did once just to see the animation, tho'; I had a save immediately before and then reloaded, so it perhaps don't count.

While it's true that the main reason to nuke Japan was to enforce a unconditional surrender without launching an invasion (which'd probably meant American losses of tens of thousands and likely millions of Japaneses civilians), the opportunity to demonstrate American might infront of Uncle Joe hardly decreased Truman's willingness to drop the bomb. And I'm not entirely unsympathetic on that point; if I had somebody like Stalin as an ally, I'd be happy for a chance to demonstrate who's the big brother of the partnership.

Earlier this week suffered a first strike from the English (I am France) 4 or 5 nukes hit all my biggest cities. I had been over running them with conventional forces after they declared war because I would not give them Rubber; a deposit of which in fact lay unclaimed two tiles away from their own borders anyway.

I had no SDI yet or nukes (never build them anyway, nukes that is not SDI).

I was still powerful enough to smash them with tanks and Modern Armour; have left them out to dry with one city on an island and no strategic resources at all. Maybe I can extort techs or more cash out of them. I am easily the biggest civ but behind on techs still. Have just got armour to the Island finally so will try pushing them around.
They seemed to use all their nukes on the first strike. They just got one more at me (Paris again) some moves later before I forced them back into the stone age.
Interestingly like wohmongarinf001 I also have no navy apart from transports obviously. Wonder if a navy has some deterant effect.
