Don't get around much anymore
After the shock abdication of Queen Jayne (some people talked about building an Oracle so that the government wouldn't be caught out like this again but were laughed out of the senate), the throne of Fanatica is empty once again. Queen Jayne has been persuaded (with apparently very little help from the Military Advisor) to stay for a few more days until the succession problem can be solved.

And it will be solved! In the usual way, with an election. :)
There are three young men all eager to prove themselves as the leader of the wisest and most productive nation in the world but who will be inscribed in the annals of Fanatican History and who will be crossing their fingers in the hope of a footnote in school textbooks in a couple of thousand years into the future?
First up is the great great great quite good grandson of the first ruler of Fanatica, but will his royal lineage help Dell19 regain his ancestral birthright or will the public plump for another challenger?
Octavian X, Lord of Donutia, a yet undiscovered province but one from which he has many great tales and an array of interesting pastries, is the latest in a line of noble young men at whom fate has not looked kindly in the Fanatican elections. Can he break the chain of ill fortune that has blighted the political ambitions of his house and claim the throne?
From one of Fanatica's outlying provinces, the governor MonkE has proven himself most able and enjoys a good relationship (not that kind) with the outgoing Domestic Advisor, but will his vast experience of micromanagement and production queues allow him to make the important decisions on Military and Foreign affairs?

The elections for this month will close on Friday morning so hurry to place your Xs! The candidates, should they so desire, are very welcome to post their manifestos in this thread in the hope of pulling the wool over the masses' eyes. Good luck to all!

Back in the days when we lived in caves, I was president so vote for MonkE or Octavian and give us a new president tthat has never been the leader before.

Well maybe it's working because no-one has so far. :)
That's the kind of election strategy I like.

Can I just say that if the President wants to change the days of the turns then that should be all right. If you can't play on Saturday or Tuesday then any mix of Saturday-Sunday and Tuesday-Wednesday would be all right. Things would be best as they are of course, but if you really can't then by all means ask to change the turns and we'll sort it out. Don't forget that the Vice President will be responsible for playing the turns if you miss one and don't tell us!

This is why we have our trusted and beloved advisors! :) Of course, the expressed will of the people will always be respected.

Unfortunately, it has been pointed out that Dell19 needs to be removed from the presidential race due to a technicality in the constitution. As you can see from Section I, Article 4, only current officials may run for President.

Current Government

Note: Dell19 has been removed from the running for President with 2 votes cast in his favor. If you voted for him, please PM with your next choice and I will add it to the poll.

I'm certainly glad you consider MonkE a current official. I certainly do! It does sound like a good Rule, Duke, interpreted broadly.

It may promote applicants for the Governor Pool, eh? Please. I've been a good boy!

It seems we have a problem. How can we have elections with one candidate?
Perhaps a revisal of the constitution is in order, accounting for occasions where there is scant interest from the current government (what would happen if none of the candidates wanted to do it?).
To reverse a decision in the face of such a large majority would be undemocratic.

I always thought (assumed?) that mods could see who had voted for whom?

It is possible, but not very easy. The current way the system is right now is that every poll in every forum would have to be looked at to see who voted for what in this one poll. If you think the server is slow now, just wait and see what happens if we ever try and do that. ;) So, as you might guess it is not used.

I feel it should be modified to allow anyone who has held a position recently, so in the last 3 to 5 terms should be eligible. I want to keep my two votes!

MonkE, since you might become President, how about a little test? You, too, Octavian.

Download the game, make the recommended 60AD micromanagement changes and whatever other build Q and serf changes you'd like, and upload that to Turn 60AD.

We've had delays in the past, when the new President needed to somehow update their copy of Old Civ2.
