After last turn chat's 'Great Settler Debates,' we need to discuss city placement. There is a settler en route to the dyes: we need to finalize his destination square. Also, the reason I stopped the last TC, the northern settler, needs a destination more definite than 'N NW.' Please, come up with plans, DISCUSS!
Personally, I think the settler in the NW would be better placed on the grassland tile between the Cattle and the Western Iron. As I stated befor, it would be a city on the way to the Diamond Mountains. It would grow the secure both resources and be a thriving city. Also a barrier to the Japanese. the next one in the NW should either be the one securing the Diamonds or the one securing the furs. If worse comes to worst and our Iron supply dries up, we will have the first city I mention here, plus we could just take the American City. I really don't like the N, NW placement.
I think our cities need to be placed right up against the mountains so that when we do get rails (rails+irragation = 2 extra food, or "1 support tile each for mountains") we can use every mountain/hill tile possible.
Yes, I do BCLG100. In the NW area, "A" would be the 1st location half way in between the Cattle and the West Iron. "B" would be the Diamond City and "C" would be the Fur City.
This map looks good, Cyc. I would recommend, perhaps, moving site 'C' to a coast. I find that cities in the tundra are most efficient here, so that harbors and offshore platforms can be used to boost growth and production.
But if we move C to a coastal site, we'll be forfeiting the two grassland tiles that we can get at the current location. I'm not particularly a math whiz, but I have a feeling offshore oil platforms will come into play too late in the game to be as much as use as those two grassland squares ;-)
On a similar note, I would be in favor of settling C first, then A, then B.
Octavian, I suspect that we will be implementing a very tight build in this area, so we will quite likely be building a coastal city one or two tiles away from site C in the future. For now I think it is more important that we secure both those fur tiles ASAP.
I have posted a discussion/proposal regarding long term city placement. I would appreciate it if all further discussion on this topic be conducted in that thread, in order to make my life easier when collecting proposed sites for polling.
That's why I proposed an ICS strategy for that area (the tundra). There should be a lot of coastal cities, too. The coast gives a nice about of gpt for being all water...
