During the course of Sunday's turn chat, the russian insurgents in the NW succeeded in placing a city 1 tile south of the site on which we had planned to buid one of our own. Thus wrecking that particular part of our original counter-insurgency plan. The current situation may be seen here:

Please make suggestions on how to turn this situation if not to our favour, then at least to our greatest advantage.

I would move the Settler (NE of Riga) 1 Tile to the NW and plant it on the tundra. You don't want to waste the Cattle. Move the pike in Riga's territory 1 tile North. Move the horse 1 Tile South. The horse that it doubles up on, move 1 Tile South and 1 Tile SW. Move the horse on the snow-capped mountain 2 Tiles SE of Riga 1 Tile South. Now you can walk it back towards Russia.

Move the two Horsemen SE of Izibia (whatever) 1 Tile NE each. If necessary make these two Horsemen join up with the ones to the NE walking out the Russians. If you move the pikeman in between Riga and Satsuma, it can block that pathway.

Plant the Settler above the "B" right on the "B". I would get the other Settler back up on the road, to the NW of where he is and plant him North of the "A", or 1 Tile North and 1Tile NE of the "A".

That will get you three cities placed (hopefully) and be walking the insurgents out of our area. It's worth a shot anyway.

I think it would be best if we moved the setter at top one tile west, planted a city, and then rushed a cultural improvement.

A declaration of war once our current alliance is done may be in order...;)

Japan has already taken the Russian city of Novgorod(sp?) on the northern coast. I am not sure if they took it by force or by culture. Why not grant them a bit of breathing room to take these cities? Then we are free to take them once again without fracturing any alliances.

Of course this plan would mean that we would have to limit these advances to only those cities, meaning a few horsemen would have to stay behind to contain the Japanese.

Also, since the French are still wandering our land in great numbers(why???), I think we should try to get them involved in the war against Japan and contain their settler. I argued strongly against an ROP last turn, but if are going to let them stick around anyway....................

It would have nice to have had more discussion on this before these things happened, especially with the change in terms and the ensuing confusion.

@ Donovan - Sorry, with the AI's priority of protecting its Capital city and our Army in Plexenburg chomping at the bit, I don't see Japan seding troops out the perimeter to attack new cities. We can probably take these new cities with Culture (we are in awe of Bab Culture), if we don't wind up taking them by force.

I DON'T think we should sign anymore diplomatic agreements with France. Now that we have the embassy, we know there intent to go after the Egyptian city down South. We should have taken Lisht (whatever) out when we had those two horses down there. Let's not sign any ROP's, let's not extend our diplomatic obligations to anyone.

Let's push the insurgents out, plant our Settlers, (btw, let's stop making Settlers), take Kyoto, and rebuild.

If we are in awe of Bab culture, then that means our cities just might flip...

Well, Ibzibia is not connected to Babland, so it's not much of a threat. I just threw that note in there.

I agree with the city plan Cyc outlined in the begining of the thread above.

I would go with Cyc's plan. We need to prevent further AI expantion into the North Provance. I have already set the provance that I am governing (the North Provance) on a Culture flip watch.

I pretty much agree with Cyc's plan, except that I believe we should stick to the original plan of placing a city on site A. That still prevents any AI settlement in the are near the mountains, while being possible to plant one turn earlier and preserving total tile coverage in the plains area as per the longterm placement plan.

Furthermore, I think that it might be a good idea to attempt to settle the gem-city site and go hell for leather for culture in order to grab that iron tile, then go beat up on the Ruskies on their home turf and try to get Riga in a quick peace settlement.

I agree that securing that gem location 3 tiles SW of Satsuma would be a good move. You may be able to do it with that pike or maybe rush a horse to it as you walk out the Russians. Please don't walk the Russians right on to that tile. They'll probably take it. If you like the "A" spot, go for it. Just clear it with Domestic before you do.

Let's keep 'em out of the province, I say. I agree with Cyc's plan.
