As of last night's Turn Chat, we have now met the basic war aims set out in this thread. Kyoto is ours as is Ise, the "Gem City". The Japanese have also been denied access to Iron since the Russian conquest of Osaka.

The question before us is: Should we now make peace, or extend the war to meet a new set of objectives?

Please post your views here.

We should leave them down to 1 city. So we shall continue until they are willing to give all their cities except 1 (maybe in the north west) for peace.
The leftover city should be in extremely unfertile land.

Also we need to watch our alliance partners, as the aliances are up for 20 turns and we dont want to make them mad at us.

So for how long do our existing alliances against the japaneese last?

I say, destroy them completely!

The alliance with the Russians can be cancelled at any point. We do need to remember to cancel it before signing a peace treaty.

We can get Satsuma and Novgorod from them in a peace deal, as well as Toyama, though the latter is probably not worth the cost of defending.

Also, before we cancel this alliance, and irritate the Russians slightly, we need to trade them education and about 150 gold for invention. We are not going to get a better offer. This should be done immediately.

I say continue until they have about 1 city left (give or take), then close the alliences, and sue for peace. Atleast take most of Gem Mountain.

I agree that there is little benefit to stopping this war as long as we can continue taking territory and trying for a Great Leader. There's no benefit to us backing out of the war and letting the other civs divvy up Japan.

I say. Lets continue the war untill the Japanese has only one city left :D.

I dont want to see the other Civs picking through Japan and becomming stronger in the process.

Despite the strain this war is putting on our economy, the Domestic Department favors continued aggression (err, operations) against the Japanese. Our hopes are that an individual, nay, a great Leader, shall rise from the pedestrian ranks of the military to inspire our nation into completion of a great wonder that shall reveal our greatness to the rest of the world.

Wouldn't that be great?!? :)

I agree, we should continue to consolidate gains around the Gem Mountains, and engage Japanese forces with elite units in search of a GL.

I would propose that the President be authorized to make the necessary moves for peace once a GL is generated.

Why leave one city? Why not kill them off completely? Whats the logic behind that?

Rather than working them down to one city, I believe a better route would be a seek a Great Leader instead. We need these military geniuses to help us complete great projects (?).

Knock Every single Japanese unit untill we get that Darn Great Leader.

Get them down to one city, then use our elites to prey on their retreating troops until we get a GL. And if we don't get a GL, launch controlled attacks against their last city. And if we still don't get a GL, either sue for everything we can squeeze out of them, or eliminate the worthless barbarians. But I hope we'll get a GL....

I just hope this is a GL-happy map like the 1st demogame!

subliminal message: I have entered the 4,000 post club.

Let's go for the GL!!!!

And Congratulations Chieftess for entering the 4,000 post club. (even though I will never even get 1,000 posts.)

I think we should do what we did with the Aztecs. We can grind them down to a few cities, then extort them for their last(except for one citiy) cities. This is if we have received a GL. If we have not then, keep on killing them until GL.

The Japanese have gone from an Imperial world leader to a whimpering pekinese. Even though they were suffering greatly, they still allowed themselves to let their cities fall easily to the other nations, while fighting us tooth and nail. This shows great courage in their attempt to stop us, but it also shows hatred for Fanatika. I am not one for crushing a people or a nation, but we must press on and take Satsuma at least. We should then continue until we have achieved our goal of a Great leader. Once we do this and he is rushed back to safety, then we should sue for Peace.

I would recommend sending elite troops to Satsuma first, then if no GL rises from the ranks, move back to the Western front.
