How long do we wish to remain 'the Kingdom of Fanatika?' Shall we become Republicans, or stick with the old Monarchy?

There are excellent points for both. The monarchy gives us many a free unit, while the Republic offers increased trade and decreased corruption.

Which path shall we take? I would want to stay a monarchy for one or two more wars, then switch to the Republic to build up our infastructure. Let us discuss: Do we wish to become a Republic, and if so when?

Well, we will be connecting vital luxs soon, and with markets, that's increased happiness. With the industrial age drawing closer, wars are going to be decided much quicker than before. So, that would mean less of a chance for war wariness. BUT, there is one wonder we should strive for: Universal Suffrage. If we are to switch to republic, we should really think about getting that wonder. Perhaps Morgana could be on a palace prebuild for that...

But, to be efficient in an Industrial Republic, we also need more workers to connect our cities (and make war mobilization (not the ingame term) quicker). By war mobilization, I mean increased production and growth from rails, and getting our units to the border quicker. We need workers for that. Republic will help with the reduced corruption, and Universal Suffrage will help with war wariness.

(remember, when we do go into the industrial age... I don't want to see anything... "funny". :hmm: )

I think one more large scale war is needed. The Americans have treated our territory like their own. They need to have their ears trimmed back a bit. After an American campaign I would be willing to consider a switch to Republic.

Personally, I'm a fan of staying in Monarchy a bit longer. We're going to need to fight at least 1 or two more wars (Shaitan, don't trim America's ears, just go straight for its throat) and even if faster conflicts will cause less weariness, it will be difficult for us to maintain a strong standing army in Republic due to the lack of unit support per city. Therefore, I believe we should stay in monarchy until a) we have fought our next war and possibly the one after that, and b) we have learned Democracy. I don't see why we would even want to waste the time in anarchy to become a Republic when soon enough we'll have Democracy on our hands and everyone will want that. I say wait a while and save us a few turns of unnecessary anarchy.

I may be the only one against a war with America. I believe the stablity on the eastern front is in our favor and provides an excellent opportunity to take down our greatest threat - Babylon.

Their tech lead and high culture make them a much more serious threat than America, and I believe their other neighbors would quickly join our crusade one more time to quelch this cultural threat. Not to mention... if we are unable to fully eradicate them, we would be able to extort a handsome number of techs from them.

Nonetheless, I believe that we are best suited to turn our efforts towards retooling at present. Our military is depleted from our last war, and with the advent of gunpowder, foreign cities should be adequately defended against even the most skilled of our knights. We need to discover a new and more powerful offensive weapon to counter the defensive strengths of these so-called musketmen....

We're working on it, I think.... aren't we currently researching Military Tradition? But, now that you mention it, Babylon might be the sensible target. Like I said, we'll need to fight AT LEAST 1 more war (America) and possibly two (Babylon.)

I think we should remove the cultural threat first (maybe America before we switch over), but we have to remember that Russia (unless we cut off their trade routes) will have cossacks very soon. Also, if we do declare war, and have a coalition, look for a lot of Babylonian cities to be razed by the AI. This would be a perfect time to have a bunch of settlers move in. (the PEP from Demogame1! :D more like an AEP.. Agressive Expansion Program). If we do get to cavalry (and we should do so quickly, as the AI is almost techs away from industrialization), we'll need to bring our catapults to the front. <roleplay>Perhaps this... gunpowder will help us with improving our knights and catapults - the seige weapons of the middle ages).

I agree on moving to a more advance form of government that will help us in our quest for a faster science rate :). Republic or Democracy should do the trick :). BUt since we do not have the advance for Democracy, then we should go with The Republic :D.

I think we should just skip the peaceful governments right away and go straight to Communism from Monarchy. That's what I do in most of my games when I fight wars as I find the unit support and spying benefits under Communism help greatly when waging war. I feel like we will be at war for most of the rest of our history and therefore there is no need to switch to a peaceful government such as Republic or Democracy. Also, we are ahead of the world under Monarchy and (hopefully) later Communism. Why should we change this if we are doing so fine as it is. In other terms, "If it ain't broken don't fix it."

I would prefer to ignore Republic, since it will not give us a huge peacetime advantage or make us any better equiped to compete with the AI in terms of research. My belief is that we would be better off remaining under Monarchy until our empire is close to being unassailably strong in terms of territory and number of military units. If we then decide to pursue a more peaceful path we should look at switching to a Democracy, and if we wish to continue our long established tradition of conquest we should try to decide which government form will best allow us to do so.

We must remember that periods of anarchy are both risky and costly, and should only be entered into if the end result will be a serious and lasting improvement on the present situation.

The only thing I don't like about communism is forced hurrying. Because of that, if I decide to stick with a war government, I usually stay the path with Monarchy through the whole game. However, eventually we are going to need Democracy for its commerce and production benefits. I still say we take care of Babylon and America, then wait for Democracy.

I dont beleve we need a War time government. We need The Republic to catch up with the AI. It is too risky to engage in a war when we only have swords and stone throwing equiptment while our enemies have muskets and cannons.

I say make haste to the Republic

I, again, will have to agree with the President. His idea for our governmental path seems the best. Regardless of who we decide to attack next, America or Babylon or both, Monarchy is what we should be in. Then after we have become a supreme power and can quickly extinguish foriegn attacks, switch to Democracy.

Although 40J makes some good points, I still don't know what his feelings are on the topic of this thread. I think Communism is a bad idea and I think it's much too early to switch governments. We can't take an Anarchy period at this point, much less waste the years if we're to switch to a Democracy later. Stay in Monarchy until we can switch to Democracy.

I have found communism to be a very wasteful government, as it nearly destroys the productivity of your interior powerhouse cities in favor of spreading equal corruption.

I recommend against ever switching to that government, as many of the military benefits for Communism are in our hands now as a Monarchy.

I will agree that we should go to war with America and Babylon before a switch. If these wars are sucessful, Fanatika's place as the most powerful nation in the world will be secure, and we won't have to worry much about foreign threats.

I feel that, for the time being after those wars, republic would be the best way to go, even if we know the secrets of democracy. The republic's relatively low war weariness would make it ideal for carrying out short, decicive victories over any who would oppose our industrial units (I hear rumors of heavily armored knights on wheels equipped with guns...),

I also think republic is a good war-time government. I also agree that we should hold off on switching till after the next war. If we do decide to fight another war in monarchy it would be best to take a look at the government situation after the war rather than try to decide now what we should do then.

donsig has a point. Republic can be a very good wartime government. If the wars are short and decisive. We have been tending towards longer wars so far. Once we are set to our territorial limits (Manifest Destiny) this should be the type of war we are involved in. However, I think we have at least one more protracted war in front of us.
