I created a board game using only pencil and paper called World at War. The board is a grid. Some squares are forest (impassable). Some are water (Only passable by ships and marines). Some are land (basic). Some are unclaimed cities (capturable). You choose from different nations from the world wars to be. You start with a measly cavalry. You move him on board and capture cities. Depending on the number printed on the city square, you get a number of points. You use points to buy more units and get Technology Cards to buy different, stronger units. Object? KILL YOUR ENIEMES' UNITS AND CAPTURE ALL THEIR CITIES! I'll finish the description later. I need to go to bed. Bye! :)

That's the impression I got from it. I just wonder how he is going to set this game up. I guess I have to wait and see.

That's great puglover. When it's ready, I'll gladly playtest your game by e-mail.

Advice: The most captivating boardgames seem to be those with aces. I mean when the game mechanics are simple, but players wield powers that flamboyantly bend or ignore certain rules.

Good show, Pug.
Get a kip, then tell us more of this creation!

Battle in the game is determined with dice. Artillery, Cavalry and Infantry, and Grenadier don't need a tech card. And in this game, bombard is deadly! There are many units. Most need Tech Cards (5 points a peice). Here are all the units.

Infantry (basic) (1 move, 2 cost)
Cavalry (Infantry with 2 moves) (2 move, 4 cost)
Tank (1+ Attack) (2 move, 5 cost)
Machine Gun (1+ Defense) (1 move, 3 cost)
Bazooka (1+ Attack vs Tanks) (1 move, 3 cost)
Fighter (2+ vs Bombers) (4 move, 4 cost)
Bomber (Can eliminate stacks of units within a city) (5 move, 5 cost)
U-Boat (1+ vs Battleship) (4 move, 3 cost)
Destroyer (1+ vs U-Boat) (4 move, 3 cost)
Battleship (1+ vs Destroyer, Shore Bombard, can't kill marines) (4 move, 4 cost)
Transport (Can transport 2 units across water. No attack or defense) (3 move, 3 cost)
Marine (Amphibious, can be killed by Destroyers) (1 move, 3 cost)
Artillery (Bombard, 1- Defense) (2 move, 3 cost)
B17 (American UU) (Extra movement than Bomber) (7 move, 6 cost)
Spitfire (British UU) (Extra movement than Fighter) (6 move, cost 3)
Panther (German UU) (1+ Attack) (2 move, 5 cost)
Zero (Japanese UU) (Kamakazie vs ships. Low cost) (4 move, 3 cost)
Frogman (Italian UU) (Marine with 2 moves) (2 move, 3 cost)
Grenider (French UU) (Only unit that can go through forest) (move 1, cost 2)
T34 (Russian UU) (Tank with 3 moves) (3 move, 5 cost)

'A documentary' is a bit of a grudging way to put it. It was about three dozen hours long, or something similar. If you haven't seen it you should. It's a wonderful series.

:goodjob: on the game Pug.

I've heard about the series, but I only got to see about half an hour of it... Do you have any idea how can I get it?

It's recently been repeated on British terrestrial television, and is being shown on Sky, but I don't suppose that that's very useful for you. My father recently bought the VHS box set of it, so I know that's available. I don't know whether it's been put onto DVD. No doubt a quick search at Amazon or similar will furnish you with the details.

If it's a BBC production you could probably get it from them, too.

Sounds like the civ Boardgame.

I'll post a picture of the map as soon as I get back from my 2-day campout.

The BBC would sell its own mother if it could.

How much are they offering? :yeah:

As for the proposed board game :ack: It is somewhat novel, but something tells me that there may have been one or two board games based upon World War 2 before...

This is like Hasbro's "Axis and Allied" only more diversified...

I thought this is about the series... :o

Which, FYI, is available in DVD format. :)
