I'll post my start location, but I haven't settled yet (no secret if you look at the score) so I'll wait one turn. It's ok, but the first AO2 start was much better...

Pretty bad start, col, but I'm a contender for worst starting position too.

I'll try too do a screenshot come the next turn but it was bad enough to get my settler on a scouting trek alongside my scout and worker.

What exactly were the map conditions you chose, Propain? I'm guessing something like "as much desert and jungle as possible?"

Mel played my turn with me giving directions, using MSN! The starting location seems quite OK! On to killer! Maybe anarres will let Mel play for him too. In that case we can possibly have 2 turns in one day...

talking about a flying start! If we keep up this enthousiasm this game's gonna rule.

I have a day off, so I spent some time fiddling around with Paintshop Pro. The results :

Started on the spot where the settler still is. Spot looks fine, but standing on a shielded grass. Rather use it than settle on it.....mmmm.. Lets move the worker first. Worker moves and what do we see in the shades...(drumroll) We don't know! But it's a (bonus/lux) resource for sure. My first guess was another wheat. When I look at the enlargement I made this morning I'd say it isn't. Looks different from the wheat I can see. Actually it looks a bit like a cow

So I'm hoping and keeping my fingers crossed.

We'll know more tonight.

So much of pbem games is start critical - much more so than in solo games. Humans are ruthless about crushing you if given a chance - at least the ones I play with are ...

Man, are you guys lucky or what!

After already naming my capital "doffe ellende" (translates roughly to something like "utter misery" in English) in the first AO2 PBEM, I now face lands consisting of a few no-bonus grasslands, lots of jungles and a few forests. No bonus or luxury resources to be seen for miles.

So far I've only had one decent starting position in my PBEM, and that game is dead (AO3).

That's not luck guys, that's called expert editing.

Just kidding, it's just all standard setting with the exception of world shape, I set that to continents.

@Kemal: I'm thinking the world builder somehow takes your name into account when assigning start locations. And since Kemal resemblances camel ... well you can fill in the blanks yourself.

(EDIT: this reasoning seems incorrect since you're in the jungle instead of the desert. Must be just the avatar then)

Maybe if you change your avatar that will help to, I don't think the comp likes to be bombed. I have some suggestions that you can use and they fit your playstyle as well :
