Our rails will be availible soon (provided that we have coal). We need to decide where to place rails, and how to use our workers to the fullest. I shall draw up a map after dinner...

@Chieftess - I was just going to do this. I too don't have a map but here is what I am thinking:

I am thinking of Tlaxcala as the hub that will branch off in four different directions. We should end these lines well within our borders to start with, only to ensure these four lines can be completed first.

1. The most important route would be to Kyoto, so I believe that is what we should work on first. Going through New Falcon's Nest would provide the quickest build as our workers would only have to road two forest tiles and 1 hill/mountain(can't remember) near Kells. We could come back to the finish those last to ensure quick completion of the rest of the rail line.

2. Then(or at the same time), we could go from Tlaxcala to Padmativa through Tarkingrad. This will give our cavalry the quickest path from the Western nations to America, and vice versa.

3. We should eventually connect the rail to our capital, Bavaria and down to Grandmastoria, to ensure swift reaction to any threat the Chinese may have to offer.

This is obviously just for starters but will be the quickest way to provide rails East to West, North to South. We can work on branching out once this main project is done.

The one I've done is mostly "internal" (with a rail extending to America - probably our next target)...

This is the eastern map, which will start in Bavaria, and branch out. Main rails are in black, with secondary rails in teal. The rails will meet at Pensacola.

This is the Central Railways. The main connection is in blue, and secondary is in teal. The connection will end at Pensacola.

I love the maps!

a few should be disgnated to RRing the worked tiles of our best cities to make them even better!

The proposed rail lines seem fine. The quickest way to build our rail network is to work on those parts of the line where our workers happen to be. The job will be completed much faster if we do this instead og moving the workers to a place to start a specific segment.

We should also group our workers. It takes 6 indeginous workers to make a rail in 1 turn, and 12 foreign to make a rail in one turn on grass/plains. We should find groups of 3/6 or 6/12.

Looks good, connecting cities with main East/West, North/South routes. Also, donsig has a point about not wasting worker moves to get them to a specific site. Let them work their way to that site, or at least close enough where they won't waste a turn getting there. I think we need to keep the workers at Kuhkaff for a bit and I have posted maps and instructions in various threads for worker actions in The North Province.

God, I love doing rail nets! Sound advice from everyone involved so far. Here is a map of the SW frontier that should shave about 1/3 of the build time from Chieftesses map:

Light blue is the primary line, the orange is an add on. Aside from the rail line to Kyoto, looping a line down through Fukushian and Larsa to reach the war zone should be a high priority in the west.

I have modified CT's eastern railway through Tlaxcala for quickest completion of East/West rails(i.e. where the other civs are). Dotted lines in the railline signify rails we can double back and complete later without rail travelers losing much movement. Also, this line rolls through the Highlands and Tarkingrad, allowing to be completed even more quickly.

Also, CT? Can you please link to your pics instead of having them upload here? I haven't gotten a chance to look at Feodor's proposal. It sounds like it could be similar to mine.

And Feodor, last time I did wait to see your diagram, it was not on file. Please check into that if you haven't already. Thanks!

Eastern rail

This just in! The first rails have been spotted in Persia!

:ack: Ok, I have not checked this thread in a while and I am quite lost

BTW the the Idea looks great. We should keep an eye on the Persians

I think the highest priority should be to connect our southeastern border (aka The Wall) to our Northeastern borders with a branch off in the Southwest province towards the southwest front (ie. the newly acquired Indian territories).

Essentially, I would reserve connecting all the cities until we have a way to rapidly deploy our troops on any of our three exposed fronts (Babylon/Russia, Iroquois/China, and America/England/France). We must have the ability to move the bulk of our troops rapidly (ie, 1 or 2 turns) between these zones.

It would be embarrassing to be the last one to get it.

That just might happen at this level. We're #1 in pop, but most of our cities are around size 6-8. We do have some emerging size 12 cities, though. I'm also sending workers to the other side of the nation to work the terrain around Kyoto (we started a palace prebuild there for a wonder - something of which I've been saying for the past few months).

That's exactly what I proposed a few posts up, Forty. I will post it here again, but you may need to back out of this thread because CT's maps take too long to load(for me anyways).

Eastern rail
Stops: New Falcon's Nest/ Cuernavaca/ Tlaxcala/ The Highlands/ Tarkingrad/ Padmativa

Tlaxcala can also be used as a hub to quickly connect North(Bavaria) and South(Trader's Inn). Dotted lines represent extra-time areas(forest, mountain) that can be continued once the mani line is completed.

I think CT has the best idea from NF's Nest and West, but this would be the most direct route East.

Finally, I am speaking with the governors now about increasing our workforce. I would like to quickly build the Trans-Fanatika Railway and then use some of those workers to join cities via my Size 12 Plan. More info in my sig.
