... otherwise known as "That Atlantis mod".

All the great civilizations for which room can be found, with minimal rule modification. Based upon Teturkhan's Earth (256 X256), with the island/continent/civ of Atlantis added. Also includes the Inca, the Polynesians, Ethiopia, Mali and Poland. 26 Civilizations, in all. This mod is for use with the Play The World expansion pack, only.

The basic goal of this mod is to give the player more of what they bought the game for.

The basic rules for this mod are ...

Minimal rule changes: Anyone who has played civ before should be able to play this mod without trying to figure out the impact of invisible settlers or 10 HP barbarians. The original rules were put into place after extensive play-testing, and should be changed only after serious consideration.

More Stuff, but let's not get crazy: 400 luxury resources is interesting, but you can only use 8. And what do you trade if everyone has all they can use? Likewise, 31 civs are possible, but would they all have a chance?

Only the good stuff: Since this mod is somewhat minimalist, we can wait until high quality graphical modifications are available. Nothing is quite so jarring as viewing professional-grade graphics up against something decidedly less so.

Have a little fun: You'll have to play it to understand, but trust me: this mod doesn't take itself too seriously.

Changes in this mod include:

Civs:
Added:
Atlantis (Scientific/Expansionist)
Leader: Atlas
UU: Kraken 2/2/4 Invisible (replaces Frigate)

Poland (Scientific/Religious)
Leader: Kazimierz
UU: Husaria 5/3/2 (replaces Knight)

Incas (Industrious/Religious)
Leader: Atahuallpa
UU: Eagle Warrior 1/1/1 Invisible/No Support (Replaces Warrior)

Ethiopia (Religious/Commercial)
Leader: Zawaditu
UU: Javelineer 3/2/1 No Resource (Replaces Swordsman)

Polynesia (Expansionist/Commercial)
Leader: Tangaloa
UU: Outrigger 1/1/4 Doesn't sink in sea (Replaces Galley)

Mali (Scientific/Commercial)
Leader: Mansa Musa
UU: Camel Rider 2/2/1 No required resource, +1 HP, ignores desert move penalty (replaces horseman)

Removed: France, America, The Ottomans, and The Celts were removed due either to a) issues concerning geographical crowding, or b) problems with scenario fit.

Changed: Meso-American Civs get the canoe instead of the galley, to keep them isolated longer.

Units:
Added:
Musketeer - A colonial era defensive unit, between Arquebusier (formally musketeer) and rifleman.
MKIV - A WWI era tank that upgrades to the basic version.
Trebuchet - An improved upgrade for the catapult, which upgrades to the cannon.
Recon - A modern upgrade for the explorer
Coracle - An ancient sea unit, to give the island civs a shot.
T-Rex - A barbarian unit, starting units only, to make the jungles interesting (another great Teturkhan idea).
White Dragon - A barbarian unit, starting units only, to make the snowy
north interesting.
Kraken - Same as the Atlantean unit, but barbarian and pre-placed, as
above, to make the oceans interesting.
Canoe - A coracle-like transport that replaces the galley for
meso-american civs.
Crossbowman - A Mideval replacement for the Longbowman, which becomes the English UU.
Flavor Units:
African Scout (replaces Scout)
African Warrior (replaces Warrior)
African Spearman (replaces Spearman )
African Archer (replaces Archer)
African Swordsman (replaces Swordsman)

Changed:
Civ UUs have been added to the upgrade path, so as not to penalize civs who have armys of low tech units with the UU occupying the next upgrade slot. This does not make UU available to other civs.

Removed:
Man O War: Lame. Replaced with Longbowman, as English UU.

Resources:

Added:

Timber - Strategic 0/1/1 (Needed for sailing ships)
Oasis - Bonus 2/0/1
Coffee - Luxury 0/0/2
Tobacco - Luxury 0/0/2
Fruit - Bonus 3/0/0
Sheep - Bonus 1/1/1
Orichalcum - Luxury 0/0/3

Rules:
Cities cannot be built on forest or jungle tiles.
Removed Space Race and Diplomatic Victories.
Desert tiles now have a movement penalty of 1.

Misc:
Uses Snoopy's terrain.
Uses alternate graphics for barbarian camps and goody huts.
Uses alternate graphics for domestic advisor.
Uses alternate wonder splashes.
Too many minor look & feel issues to list. Try it - you'll like it!

I'd like to thank the academy ....

If I forgot someone, let me know, and I'll add them. After a year of continuous downloading, I don't even know where everything came from, anymore.

Known issues (that will eventually be corrected):

o Civlopedia entries are missing for:
Timber
Tobacco
Coffee
Oasis
Sheep
Fruit
o Zawaditu does not display her name in the diplomacy screen.
o There are extra spaces in civ choosing screen.

Future changes:

o Loads of flavor units.

This will always be the latest full install

Service Release 1.01 30,660 KB posted 2/9/2003

This will always be a cummulative patch from the original Gold release. Use this if you have already installed the full release, before. You can either unzip the contents to a "RagnarsBattlefieldEarthSR" subfolder of your scenarios folder, or copy the contents over your previous installation.

Special note: I tried to make this mod so that every civ had a chance. For that reason, I removed some civs from crowded areas, and gave others free units or extra resources. Still, not all civs are created equal. From my experience, China, the Iroquois, and India seem to have it relatively easy. Likewise, only the hardy should attempt to play England, Carthage, Scandanavia, the Inca, or the Polynesians. Consider this another way to fine tune your difficulty level.

Happy gaming!

Also, do you know how the new Atlantis leaderhead is going?

That is the $1,000,000 question. You can read the latest here , but the basic story is that we'll just have to wait.

I found a slight problem when playing as the Polynesians. The "OutriggerRun.flc" file is missing, which causes the game to crash after building the outrigger. I made a copy of the "OutriggerDefault.flc" and renamed it "OutriggerRun.flc" and it ran fine after that.

Thanks for the tip-off. I'll get a patch out this weekend. Hopefully, everything else is running fine.

So I did. Think he'd mind? :-)

Looks like Piernik will have the new Atlas ready by Monday, so I'll roll this correction (it's in the readme) out with that, and the flavor units I'm adding, shortly after.

If you haven't seen Piernik's Atlas, you ought to check it out here.

Here's the latest service release:

The (new) full release is in the first post.

o Moved Ethiopian starting position for accuracy.

For anyone interested in testing, Service Release 1.02 is out. By "Service Release", I mean "untested upgrade." You can get it
here.

I intend to stop changes until I get a version that passes as intensive a QA sesssion as I can arrange. Then, I'll post it here and start on the next revision.

Thanks,

dz

Ok, someone's been trying to download this thing from my server, so I thought I'd be nice and repost it:

RagnarD's Battlefield Earth Full 1.02

I haven't been playing this for a while so do pardon me that I haven't been monitoring.

Happy Gaming!

Is it C3C version ?

'fraid not. I never got around to modifying it for C3C. On the other hand, it shouldn't be too big of a conversion, if that's what you want. Just open it with the editor, swap out the redundant Civs, and save in the new format.

I'm not sure if it's appropriate for me to post in such an old thread, but both the links RagnarD posted don't work (connection refused), and I was wondering if anyone knew where another copy could be downloaded (if there were/are any such copies)... Once again, sorry for bumping.

I'm about to head off to work, but I'll see if I can dig this up tonight and post it somewhere. Sorry about the dead link - it's been awhile.

Anyone who still wants this should PM me. I'll set you up. I'd imagine the traffic is slow enough at this point to handle this one an as-needed basis.
