This is the proposed queue by the Office of Science. This is a non-informational poll. The results of this poll will effect the science department instructions.

Here is the queue:

*Medicine
*Sanation
Steam Power
Industrialization
Electricty
*Communism
*Espionage
Scientic Method
Replaceable Parts
*The Corporation
*Refining
*Steel
Atomic Theory
*Combustion
Electronics
Mass Production
Motorized Transportation
Radio
Flight
(*Amphibious Warfare)
(*Advanced Flight)

* Means we should try to get it VIA trade. If not possible then we should research it only when it effects the research of a tech higher up or is needed to pass the age.

No, I do not support this queue. It even goes against what we are currently doing! Research was switched from Medicine to Industrialization in the last chat since we got Steam Power and need Industrialization to use our Great Leader. This newly proposed queue would reverse that, keeping our leader on ice for who knows how long.

Please notice the *.... which as explained below says that we should get it VIA trade and ONLY research it if/when we need it to pass onto the next age.

I think you voted no for the wrong reason shaitan:

Strider, you even said during the turn chat to switch to industrialization...

Uh..... I know that..... um.... What was the point of this post?

When I voted, I was the only no and was disappointed, but there were only two yes votes before as well. Now, 'No's are winning.

Strider, what she means by that is that Industrialization is not at the top of the list...

I think I finally understand your queue Strider, but I don't think we should structure it this way. We should be striving for a queue that the DP could put into the game as it's written. Perhaps we should structure the techs into two different queues, a critical path and a non-critical path.

The critical path would contain the priority of techs that we intend to research ourselves or obtain through trade. In other words, the critical path would be submitted into the DP instructions to be entered into the game as written.

The non-critical path would simply prioritize those techs that are considered non-essential to our cause, except to advance to the Modern Age. These techs would be posted in the approved order in the Science Dept thread but not posted in the instruction thread as they are not a part of our actual research path.

I think such a plan would eliminate any confusion.

Actually, I think this is Strider's best effort yet. He appears to be listening to the Nation as a whole as is making adjustments accordingly. We are in a very difficult period of technological growth and with the research rate change just put into effect and new demands being made and the trade vs. research wrench thrown into the gears, I think he's done a fairly good job. I vote YES.

I agree with Cyc that this is a good effort by Strider. I also think FortyJ is correct in saying the format of the queue should be easier to follow. That said I still voted no. I think we have to set our sights on ToE/Hoover. Rather than trying to construct a queue containing all the techs we might we better off picking one long term goal like we did with military tradition.

I went for indust first as the GL poll requires it. (If I'm thinking right... The citizens voted in favor of Universal Suffrage... yes?)

Also.... Your talking to a 13 year..... I'm not good at organizing anything.... So your have to stick with me.

I just thought of something...first, I do like the idea and second, two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old are running the science department...We are the future leaders... :hmm: ;)

I'm sticking with you, Strider. ;) The point I'm trying to make is that a queue that lists all the techs in this era may not be a good idea. If we do manage to make a run for theory of evolution and actually buid it then we'll end up having to juggle the queue around to take advantage of the two free techs it gives. Not even an old bugger like me can organize that into a queue at this point. :)

My suggestion is to start a discussion thread about which tech we'd most like to work towards. Out of that discussion thread you should be able to glean three or four techs (like sanitation, motorized transport, electronics) to poll. The you can organize your queue around the winner of that poll.

Actually Donsig..... I DID try that back in Term 4 of DG1. It did not work very well as we had a turnchat that we got 4-5 techs. I then went to making these full-age queue's, but making them very expandable..... Mainly meaning that I'll post a poll for change's as we go along.... Look at the queue as the constitution. As we go on and learn from experiance we will change it to fit are needs.

Hey, it's good to see my vote actually matters. ;) 7-8 now...no more tie...

I think people are voting 'NO' for the wrong reasons. This may not be the world's most easily digested queue, but it DOES make sence and is infact quite well constructed. It is clear that our first reasearch priority is, in fact, Industrialisation, NOT medicine, though it may seem this way.

Medicine (like any tech with a *) is NOT to be researched unless it is required to get the highest teach without an asterix. Thus, once we have completed Industrialisation, we research Medicine (as it is required to research electricity) unless we already have it through trade, in which case we research Electricity.

Simple really

Now, I only have one query for the Science department, seeing as refining shows us oil, and steel gains us nothing, should refining not be a priority above steel in the 'gain by trade' queue.

Just to note, we are about to get Industialization in 2 turns. Enough civs have it that our research was sped up by a few turns. We can still get Universal Suffrage.

Steel and Refining has switched places...

I thought steel gave you steel? I needed to resign.
