During the last turn chat, The Babs have declared war on us. I have some plans regarding the Bab war, but first we should beef up our defenses there.

  • Upgrade Catapults to Cannons
  • Build more Riflemen and send them to the front line cities
  • Build Cannons and send them to the Front line cities for Defense
  • Build Cannons to be use for the offensive phase of the war

The first Phase of the war, we would be on defensive mode untill we gather enough units to take down a defending Bab Riflemen. The second Phase of the war would involve attacking and Capturing Bab cities and Pilliging there routes to prevent them from producing any units (Remember that Riflemen do not need resources).

Being the second time they do this, I believe they deserve to be destroyed!

I agree, but we should leave them one city, just to prevent us from getting a Rep hit.

Citizens of Fanatika, the call to arms has once again came upon our mighty people! The evil Babylonians have once again declared war on us! They defiled the Mutual Protection pact with our brothers of Greece and thus destroyed the peace treaty signed in the ruins of Uruk!

People of Fanatika, answer the call! Do not let the bastard babylonians attack us with impunity! They want us to bring them destruction, let us bring it to them quickly. May their end be bitter and shameful!

Our golden age shall smash the babylonians with the mighty power of industry! The cities of Hammurabi shall all burn under the fires of our men-at-arms!

They shall not evade our grasp! Mighty Fanatika, answer the threat of Evil Babylon!

I agree. I'm not worried about a meanial rep hit on the Babs, who already have a bad rep. IF we decided to take on the Babs with a frontal assault, this again would have to be an all or nothing venture. I agree with CG that we should concentrate on defense units where we can, becauase we are not prepared for a war. We are building at the begining of our GA/Industrial Era. Let's strengthen our reserves and then if we are in the position to eliminate the Babs it would be a blow against the Cultural War in this game.

As far as I'm concerned we have two viable options. We can either beef up our western borders and decide to attack their units in the field for promotion and GL generation purposes without trying to take their actual cities, or we can wipe them from the face of the earth. Anything between those two extremes will most likely prove a waste of time given the power of the Bab culture. Either of those choices would be good at this point, since the Babs have now categoricaly proven that they cannot even be trusted to abide by the terms of a treaty for more than a very few turns.

I am going to remain un-optimistic about chances of sucess in a Babylonian war. Their culture may have diminished, but it is still very high.

I would rather beef up defenses, send a few elites to try and get a GL, and wait for panzers to invade.

Clearly, promotions to Elite and GL farming is the highest and best use of this opportunity given by the Babs. There is no reason to pursue them furthur.

How far are we from Panzers? If we could get them reasonably soon, I would agree with Octavian on sitting back, farming the Babs in the field for GL's, and waiting before launching an offensive. However, if thats not an option, then I say launch a partial offensive to permanently cripple them, and then try to get the best peace you can. If culture is too much of a threat, then take the small rep hit and destroy them.

GM & Oct: Hense the First Phase of this war is to beef up our defenses on the Bab border.

I still discourage an all out offensive for reasons mentioned in previous discussions about attacking Hammurabi.

Any cities we capture will likely flip back. Their culture may have diminished, but they are still stonger culturally than us. Any attacks on their larger cities will be near immpossible to carry out: size 7+ cities + rifles + fortification + the draft + railroads bringing new defenses = damn near impossibility.

Razing the cities will result in a flood of foeign settlers using the rails to found new cities.

A Babylonian war should only be used for GL farming, nothing more.

Hmm, looks like a Defensive posture is our only hope. We can send out Cavalry units out to attack other units. if an Elite Cavalry unit creates a GL then it can escourt it bacj home.

LET THE STREETS OF UR RUN RED WITH THE BLOOD OF THE BABYLONIANS. We must capture the city of babylon itself as well, in it holds a vital key in our victory!

I would hesitate to waste our Golden Age producing units for a war we are going win in the future, with better technology, at less cost. Let's go for the defensive action, with rifleman covering our cavalry to minimize attrition.

The Babs are living on borrowed time, without the finances or resources to threaten us. We have more important things to do than to pile up casualties trying to take cities that we will be capturing with some ease in a later epoch.

Its funny how during the first babylonian war, I was the only voice for razing, now the ones who were opposed to it, are all for it!

Congratulations on your new city, Goonie. Garrison it well!
