All candidates for Executive positions should respond to these debate questions. You may also write a short "stump" speech giving whatever information you feel the voters need.

  1. Why are you running for the department you are running for?
  2. Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?
  3. What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?
  4. How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP? What about an offline turn 0 or prechat moves?
  5. Are you familiar with all of our laws? When is it appropriate to not follow the laws?
  6. Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.
  7. What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at? If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?
  8. Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?
  9. Do you favor moving the demogame to PTW or should we stay with Civ3 1.29?
  10. What plans and ideas do you have for your department during Term 7?

Plexus for Term 7!

Why are you running for the department you are running for?

My political career has been devoted to culture for the past three terms, I feel that I am a competent culture leader that does a pretty good job.

Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?

Under the current constitution, I can only run for one office.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

My Résumé;

Demogame I:
Governor of San Francisco
.5 Terms Foreign Affairs Chat Rep
1.5 Terms Foreign Affairs Deputy
2.5 Terms Governor of Ameri

Demogame II:
Governor of Valhalla
.5 Terms Governor of Bohemia
1 Term Governor of New Japan
1 Term Trade Chat Rep
2 Term Culture Leader

How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP? What about an offline turn 0 or prechat moves?

I believe that the turn chats should continue to be open.

Are you familiar with all of our laws? When is it appropriate to not follow the laws?

Our laws should seldom be broken, if ever.

Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.

Currently I have no opponents, but I have served Fanatika well and I don’t plan on changing.

What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at? If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

Monarch-Deity levels. Yes, but it could be lower.

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

Aye.

Do you favor moving the demogame to PTW or should we stay with Civ3 1.29?

Not this demogame, but number three should be moved to PTW.

What plans and ideas do you have for your department during Term 7?

I plan on doing a widespread plan for a Cultural Assault and I hope to prevent culture flips to Babylon during this war if we plan on invading.

If you get the opportunity, vote on the side of experience, vote Plexus!

Octavian's Doughnut: Candidate for President

First, the tedious part.

1. Why are you running for the department you are running for?

To conquer the world! And to, of course, do all I can for the benefit and glory of Fanatika. I sincerely believe that I can help make Fanatika the best that it can be.

2. Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?

Nope, Section G.6.C of the Code of Standards prevents me from running for a second position.

3. What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

Honestly, if 5 terms of Vice Presidenting isn't enough experience without actually being President is a good qualification, I don't know what is. In addtition to that position, I've been Trade Leader, Chief Justice, Governor, and Public Defender. In the Civ2 Demogame, I served brief stints as President, Foreign Affairs Advisor, and Science Advisor. I am also President for our Multi Site Demo Game Team.

4. How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP? What about an offline turn 0 or prechat moves?

After having experience playing closed door sessions, I definetly believe turn chats are the way to go. Turn zero/prechats are also excellent concepts, and if impleamented correctly, could work very well for us.

5. Are you familiar with all of our laws? When is it appropriate to not follow the laws?

Especially after what I've been through this term and last, what with the PIs, I am very familiar with the laws. It is never appropriate to disobey any law that the Fanatikan citizenry feel should be enforced.

6. Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.

In this game, experience counts, and experience is something I have a lot of.

7. What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at? If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

Generally, when I'm playing just to be play, I stick to regent. However, when there are times I am up for a challenge, I feel comfortable at Emperor and Deity.

8. Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

Yes. 'nuff said.

9. Do you favor moving the demogame to PTW or should we stay with Civ3 1.29?

Actually, to allow more people to participate easier, I would be inclined to keep the vanilla civ game for now.In the future, I would advocate a switch, but certainly not now.

10. What plans and ideas do you have for your department during Term 7?

I would like to impleament a plan the Senate is proposing as a full blown CoL change. The earmarking and priority lists are very good ideas, and should not have to wait the tedious process it normally takes to pass a law change.

Presidential Candidates
What days and times (in GMT and/or EST) will you be posting t/c's in the event you're elected President?

I would likely stick to two turn chats, both at 7PM EST on Wednesday and Saturday, with the possibility of a third weekly or or a Saturday morning chat, at around 10AM EST (Don't worry, I'll be awake. :D)

Octavian mounts a soap box

Citizens of Fanatika! Lend me your computer moniters! I come before you as a seasoned (and very tasty) Vice President. Through these long five months, I have served as Fanatika's Vice President, Governor of the South Doughnut Coast, and Public Defender. In addition to those positions, I have served others that represent the three branches of our government. Experience like that is vital to anyone who wishes to be Fanatika's President. You need this experience to solve conflicts, and to be at the very least a decent leader.

Not only experience matters, but dedication. I may have missed a few turn chats (I'm telling you, 8 AM is too early on Saturday), but I come whenever possible. Participation in the fourms more than a simple 'I agree' is needed, something ( to the disdain of others, I'm sure) I am well capable of.

The most important skill, though, is the willingness to lead and to follow. There are times when one must take charge, and actively attempt to affect destiny. However, there are also points were you must admit defeat and follow the will of the people. Someone who is unable to do either should not consider running for this position.

Now, I had better shut up before I go too far. Vote Octavian X!

Feodor Ardent – Running for Military Leader

1. Why are you running for the department you are running for?

I consider it the best way I can use my skills and knowledge promote the success and glory of Fanatika. Besides, I enjoy role-playing the military side of the game quite a lot.

2. Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?

I am running for Military Leader and Governor of Hill-arious. Of the two, I would probably take the national position, as it provides the best pulpit from which to promote my policies for the nation.

3. What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

Years of experience (several centuries, in fact) in the field serving with the soldiers of Fanatika. A healthy background in military scholarship and practical economics. Also, in over a decade of playing Civ, I’ve only lost one war.

4. How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP? What about an offline turn 0 or prechat moves?

I enjoy the turn-chats and try not to miss any. Having the DP do things in private would cause needless friction among the citizenry.

5. Are you familiar with all of our laws? When is it appropriate to not follow the laws?

I’ve got a good working familiarity with the laws, and obey them as strictly as they can be obeyed.

6. Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.

I can win, I can win big, and I can win clean.

7. What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at? If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

I usually play at monarch, as it provides the opportunity to win by building, with wars as I choose them. I have no problems with playing at emperor. The combined intelligence of the Fanatikan citizenry seems well able to handle the challenge.

8. Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

Yes.

9. Do you favor moving the demogame to PTW or should we stay with Civ3 1.29?

PTW is still very buggy, and there are some ridiculous units in the expansion. On the other hand, I like the extra control buttons, and we might play a civ with one of the ridiculous units.

10. What plans and ideas do you have for your department during Term 7?

We will be building up infrastructure in the first half of the turn for the eventually Panzer drive for the Domination Victory. By the end of Term 7, if the years pass swiftly enough, we should be ready to begin the final campaign.

Feodor Arden
Deputy Foriegn Affairs Minister
Major General of Volunteers
General Secretary of the Ragpickers Guild

Donovan Zoi -- Candidate for President

1. Why are you running for the department you are running for?

There are a couple of reasons. First is that I would like Fanatika to fully realize the potential of the Size 12 Plan and its counterparts, and feel that I could maximize this plan as DP. Secondly, the Industrial Age is my favorite age, and I would sincerely enjoy the chance to actively forward the game during this era.

2. Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?

I am only running for President.

3. What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

The basics: 2 terms as vocal Military Deputy, 1 term as Governor of SW Province, and 1 term as Domestic Leader.

As Domestic Leader this term, I was able to build consensus on many of my ideas by discussing them well in advance with the appropriate departments, especially where the governors are concerned. This personal policy would only become stronger if I were to become President. Plus, anyone that remembers my Military days would know that I am thorough almost to a fault, which really isn't a bad trait for the DP.

4. How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP? What about an offline turn 0 or prechat moves?

They should continue as-is. It allows the public to become involved, and there have been many instances in chat where a citizen has had a hand in advancing our cause. I am absolutely in favor of turn 0 moves or an extra chat to facilitate events such as a chat-stopping trade. However, I do believe that these should be open to the public as well.

5. Are you familiar with all of our laws? When is it appropriate to not follow the laws?

Yes, I am. I have spent much time this term familiarizing myself with them, especially with respect to the Executive Branch. I don't believe there is ever an appropriate time to ignore our laws, and would be especially cautious of this in the chats.

6. Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.

I always have my eye on the big picture, and have no problem working with any government office to bring that picture into focus.

7. What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at? If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

I recently started playing at Emperor and would be very comfortable.

8. Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

Sure do.

9. Do you favor moving the demogame to PTW or should we stay with Civ3 1.29?

I think that we should finish this game as we started, under Civ3 1.29. My fear is that adding PTW this late in the game would only cause distraction.

10. What plans and ideas do you have for your department during Term 7?

Expanding on my ideas from the current term, my main goal would be to get Fanatikan infrastructure on solid ground for the advent of Panzers, which we will hopefully see early in Term 8. Doing this now could ultimately allow us to devote our efforts entirely to our military domination/conquest through Mobilization, thereby ensuring a swift, decisive endgame(wow, I wrote this offline, but it's scary how similar my answer is to Feodor Ardent's).

Presidential Candidates
What days and times (in GMT and/or EST) will you be posting t/c's in the event you're elected President?

Most likely on Thursday 10pm GMT(5pm EST) and Sunday(starting anytime between 5pm GMT(12 noon EST) and 11pm GMT(6pm EST) as my schedule allows. There may be times when I would have to hold a chat on Monday 10pm GMT instead of Sunday, but I would make an announcement well in advance.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stump speech? I believe one of my opponents said it best:

The most important skill, though, is the willingness to lead and to follow. There are times when one must take charge, and actively attempt to affect destiny. However, there are also points were you must admit defeat and follow the will of the people. Someone who is unable to do either should not consider running for this position.

-Octavian X

During the current term, I have held my ground on some matters yet deferred to better judgment on others. My decisions are always made with Fanatika's best interests at heart.

Vote GBM if you want our country to be very, very productive. I aim to get at least 1 80+spt city, and lots of 50+spt cities. I will get there through good and thorough planning, and by guiding the governors to a common cause. Dont let the fact that I'm new put you off - newer DGers may be just as capable as everyone else, they just haven't had a chance to proove it.

  1. Why are you running for the department you are running for?
I am running for Domestic because I think I have the planning skills to run the Domestic department. I feel that I have the skills that would be on par with DZ's planning skills.
  2. Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?
I wanted to go for MAG province, and I will try to get appointed there as a deputy, or Governor if I lose Domestic.
  3. What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?
I have run a province for a term, deputy for half a term, and just look at what I have done in the short time that I have been here. I may not have been here for long, but that doesn't mean anything.
  4. How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP? What about an offline turn 0 or prechat moves?
I can agree to an offline preturn done in the days before the t/c, as the info comes in, but turn chats are vital to the power of Fanatika.
  5. Are you familiar with all of our laws? When is it appropriate to not follow the laws?
I am familiar with the laws. If a majority of the people disagreed with the laws, I would lobby to change them, but obide by them until they are changed.
  6. Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.
I am a dedicated Fanatikan, even if I've only been here for a few months.
  7. What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at? If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?
I enjoy Regent the most, but I feel comfortable at Emporer here because others can disagree with my bad judgement, and I can agree with their better judgement.
  8. Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?
Yes, but not PTW. In fact, I am going for domestic here because I didn't have PTW for the multisite game.
  9. Do you favor moving the demogame to PTW or should we stay with Civ3 1.29?
Don't move it over. the demogame should be for everyone to enjoy. Dont exclude some people because you've got something that they dont.
  10. What plans and ideas do you have for your department during Term 7?
mainly getting optimised cities. At the begining of the term 6 MAG province thread, I wrote down where all the cities would be if they were maxed out in size, and production. My main plan for the country is to get as many +50spt cities as possible, and at lest one +80 spt city.

Why are you running for the department you are running for?

Domestic Department

Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?

Just the one

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

Been in the department in all but 2 terms. Leader twice deputy twice

How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP? What about an offline turn 0 or prechat moves?

Turn chats rock altho sometimes i wish we could have a preturn chat so we can avoid 3 hr preturns :)

Are you familiar with all of our laws? When is it appropriate to not follow the laws?

Yes all too familiar with them

Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.

Got experience. (so tempting to add the question mark :D)

What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at? If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

Regent, and i have no probs with emperor level

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

Yuppers

Do you favor moving the demogame to PTW or should we stay with Civ3 1.29?

PTW, more units, buildings and improvements (airfields)

What plans and ideas do you have for your department during Term 7?

Continue building the internal structure of Fanaika and help drive us to our UU

Why are you running for the department you are running for?
--I am running for the Domestic Leader office. To be honest, I was nominated by surprise for the department. I wasn't sure if I was up to it, but since I was nominated by a very experienced player who I respect greatly, I figured I was good enough to give it a shot. I've been a governor before, and I'm an avid micromanager in my own games, so I think I am well-suited for Domestic.

Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?
--Yes, I am running for both Domestic and Governor of New Japan. If I win both, I will take domestic.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?
--I have been the governor of New Japan in term 5, and always micromanage my own games. I think this experience makes me a good candidate for Domestic.

How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP? What about an offline turn 0 or prechat moves?
--I think turnchats are a great way for citizens to take part in their government and for leaders to make sure their orders are followed properly. I think they should stay as-is.

Are you familiar with all of our laws? When is it appropriate to not follow the laws?
--I am familiar with all laws. It is NEVER appropriate to blatantly break a law, but in circumstances I think bending a rule is justified. For instance, a DP making a minor decision on his/her own initiative, or discounting a PI that is obviously foolish without the whole long procedure. Otherwise, play it by the book, people.

Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.
--People should vote for me because I will do everything in my power to involve all citizens in the vital Domestic decision, and will keep everything organized and easy for the DP to follow, so there are no mistakes. Vote for me, not the guys with the famous names and big postcounts. Damnit, 2 sentences... wait, no, 3... meh.

What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at? If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?
--I typically play on a Regent level game, although I have played higher levels and had moderate success. If I had to, I feel I would be able to play an Emperor game if I was supported by other skilled players, like the other leaders and citizens.

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?
--Yes, as well as PTW.

Do you favor moving the demogame to PTW or should we stay with Civ3 1.29?
--I would love to see PTW...next game. We started on vanilla, let's finish with vanilla. Some people don't have PTW yet, so let's not isolate even more players. Plus, some are not yet accustomed to the changes, and this might cause our play to become unfocus and weak.

What plans and ideas do you have for your department during Term 7?
--I intend to continue to build our infrastructure (especially railroads) so that our cities can turn into industrial powerhouses to turn out our mighty Panzers, and so that we can quickly deploy them throughout the world, to take full advantage of our excellant UU when we get it. More RRs, more Panzers, more Fanatikan conquest.

I have been the Military for Term 2 and Term 6. I have been well tranded by Falcon02 himself
  2. Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?

I was (and Currently) the Military Leader for 2 terms, Science Leader for term 5, Govenor for terms 3 and 4. I also held various Chat Rep possitions
  4. How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP? What about an offline turn 0 or prechat moves?
I beleve that the Turn Chats should continue the way they are. IMO the Military Needs to know what is going on with the game. for the offline turn 0 is more simmiler to the closed door policy in witch I am against
  5. Are you familiar with all of our laws? When is it appropriate to not follow the laws?
Yes, I am very familiar with the laws. IMO, it is never good to not follow the laws

I normaly play on Monarch, but I feel confedent playing on Emperor
  8. Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?
Yes, Fully funtional Civ3 patched with the latest patch
  9. Do you favor moving the demogame to PTW or should we stay with Civ3 1.29?
I dont mind the move :), It would save me from switching CDs around ;). But we should wait until all of the bugs have been nicked out
  10. What plans and ideas do you have for your department during Term 7?
My plans are to Defend Fanatika and possibly create some GL's in the process to help with our Wonder Projects. I am also Planning to expand our territory by our FP

  1. Why are you running for the department you are running for?

Because Trade is now vacant, and it needs an experienced hand.
  2. Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?

    no.

[*]What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

Too much to mention. ;) Trade leader in the first demogame, and this one. My previous trade threads speak for themselves.
  3. How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP? What about an offline turn 0 or prechat moves?

Turnchats are essential, and lets the citizentry know what's going on. I do not like closed door sessions. I ran into this conflict last game (as trade when donsig did a preturn chat). It messed up my trades, since I did not get the message in time.
  4. Are you familiar with all of our laws? When is it appropriate to not follow the laws?

I think I still need "Fanatikan Legalese for Dummies" ;), but I try my best.
  5. Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.

Not to beat down on our newest citizen:D, but I've been Trade Leader for numerous terms.
  6. What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at? If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

Regent, but emperor is fine for me now.
  7. Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

    yes.
  8. Do you favor moving the demogame to PTW or should we stay with Civ3 1.29?

As Trade, I've seen the after effects. We should not move to PTW during this game. Doing so will mess up the game.
  9. What plans and ideas do you have for your department during Term 7?

To boost our economy so we can support scientific research and a war economy.

Why are you running for the department you are running for?
>> Even though Trade isn't my specialty, i assume working as a leader in my first coming to Fanatika will be an interesting idea both to the citizens, who will be experiencing new outsider ways of dealing with trade, and to me (i'll learn a lot about the demogame).

Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?
>> I'm running for Lake Land Governor also.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP? What about an offline turn 0 or prechat moves?

Are you familiar with all of our laws? When is it appropriate to not follow the laws?
