Here is a mod.bic w/ certain unit A/D/M alterations that I've been wanting to test out for....some time now. As my experience level increases w/ the editor, I'll approach some other ideas concerning Great/Small Wonders. The changes actually affect industrial and modrn age units, so don't look for anything early. Also, the map is a standard, editor generated map (looks like a cool one) w/ continents. So, load this as a scenario. Its not an altered civ3mod.bic. Enjoy.

I flagged riflemen, infantry, and mechanized infantry defense-only to force the AI to build the more potent offensive units, such as cavalry and tanks. Now, hopefully, instead of a stack of one movement infantry coming your way, you'll see stacks of cavalry and tanks. Originally, Civ3 was set up this way, but it was changed in a later patch.

I increased the abilites to paratroopers and helicopters in hopes to have a use for them in game-play. I intend to use the paratrooper as a special forces unit, behind enemy lines. This is the reason for the 2 movement rate and increased operational range.

I increased subs and nuc-subs because I simply feel they should be more effective.

So many mods to test, so little time...
 I look forward to testing it.

Beware, map testers! I will also have a map up by this weekend...

Ah well, it was worth a try: I got the "Could Not Open scenario File -- may be corrupt" message, which I suspect is another 10.1 versus 10.2.4 thang.

Try this: You can find Resedit easily through versiontracker.com if you don't have it.

How to fix corrupted saves.

Offered by DiamondzAndGunz ---

1. First, launch ResEdit (no-brainer)
2. Go to the file menu, and go down to 'Get File/Folder info...'
3. Locate and open the save file.
4. In the 'Type' field, enter 'GAMs' (case sensitive!) (without quotes, of course.)
5. In the 'Creater' field, enter 'Civ3' (same as above, case sensitive, no quotes)
6. Go to the file menu, and go down to Save
7. Go to the file menu, and go down to Quit.

Offered by tao ---

for MacOS 9.x:
use the "More File Info CMM Plug-in" by Hide Itoh to set type and creator in one easy step

for MacOS X:
ctrl-click on the fiile and set "open with..." to Civilization III

This worked for me all the times.

PS: If you are interested in the how and why, read "Type and Creator Codes" in Chapter 4 of David Pogue's "MacOS X - The Missing Manual".

Offered by Nixnutz ---

After I decompressed GOTM8, I double-clicked on it. My browser opened and it was blank.

I dragged the decompressed file into my Civ3 SAVES folder, (it decompressed as a SimpleText file) started Civ3 and opened the file with the LOAD GAME button. It started up with no problem.

One of the first things I was taught, whether its Mac or darkside, was that if the double-click doesn't work, open the file from within the application. Many programs are able to repair some of the problems through the format change process.

Thanx, djb. I normally don't have problems opening files. However, after the Editor debacle I'll update my Classic ResEdit and go off and become a techie. And I thought having a Mac made the technology 'transparent'. Darn, this means I'll have to transfer my brain orientation from Right to Left. :crazyeye:

An update, djb. None of the methods in your post have solved the problem. I should mention that versiotracker now has another program in place of ResEdit that the prospective purchaser can fork over $250 American to enjoy. No!!!

Perhaps it will work when Brad has made the changes for 10.1 users.

Anyway, I think we should support gfeier's idea of a 'Best mod.bic File Competition' or simply ask our moderators for a separate download thread where we can a) download the mods; and b) rate them -- just like the Graphics Mod threads/forums. [I've written to Chieftess about this]

Darn, was the later ResEdit version shareware or freeware? Email me your e-address, and I'll send you a zip.

Thanks for the mod!

I decided to give it a test-drive while waiting for my GOTM file to be fixed.

Having a grand time. Running at regent as the Chinese. My original plan was to be Gengis Khan, and have done OK at that (wiped out the Greeks and knocked the Americans and Romans around quite a bit). It looks now like I have a solid shot at a domination victory or a culture victory (Beijing is on pace for 20,000 culture points).

No chance for diplomacy any more, I've picked fights with almost everyone (except the Babylonians, and they're next --- they are just behind me in culture points, so I'll do a little pillage to knock them back down to size)

This has been a nice break from the slowness and frustration of this first GOTM cross-platform game.

Thanks again DJB!
James
