Alright. So when I first made my "Teachers, Politics, and Gullible Students" thread, I was a little shocked that people chanted "FIRE HIM!" But now I just looked at the website of the man our teacher told us to watch, Michael Savage. The site is www.homestead.com/prosites-prs/index.html.

A few things he supports:
- Closing all borders
- Making all schools teach English and English only
- Reinstating the Sedition Act, which makes it ILLEGAL to DISAGREE with the government publicly

Now I think this guy should be fired!

Oh WOW! I felt dirty just looking at that site!

I'm sorry, but I can't agree with teachers being fried because they hold radical views. You either hold them for advocating their views to an impressionable group of students or not. What their views are as a basis for accountability is unconstitutional, in my opinion anyways ;).

He's saying NO foreign language programs. What about those people who just come here with a dream of learning English and getting a job? This guys is lumping good and bad immigrants together.

Its not that he held radical views - its that he told us to watch this guy, who wants to make it ILLEGAL TO DISAGREE WITH THE GOVERNMENT! Can I stress that any more?

Nothing. There is definitely somethingwrong with making it illegal to disagree w/ the gov't in public.

I sincerly doubt that is true, though.

If I said Noam Chomsky was a Soviet communist, you'd say I'm exaggerating, at least.

Teaching the course English and no foreign languages.

Edit: Sorry, they beat me.

@ Toasty: Frying teachers is extreme. (I love it when type-o's spell a word that change the meaning of a sentence) :)

I politely disagree. I think that they should at least have programs teaching non-English speakers to learn English. Alot of people come to this country without an opportunity to learn English? They should just stick to their old language?

Oh wait, I forgot - under Michael Savage, there would be no immigrants!

Thr's no way he'd get fired but he would get a scolding about talking politics in the classroom I'm sure.

I take a political and economics course. My teacher represents Keynesian economics and the Republican ways of working things as facts. I have no problem with it.

The reason being that the one half of the class is too stupid to understand what they're being taught, and the second half is liberal in the first place.

However, I do not see a problem with a teacher putting their political views into a class, even if it is math, because it promotes teacher-student relations if nothing else. The "damage" that is done to the students might have an effect on their development, however teachers all due that, and odds are later down the road when the student can better handle such views the opposite will be presented to them.

I don't see what the fuss is about.

I'm failing to see what's wrong with this. It's designed to protect our countries from foreign enemies.

Let me get this straight: This guy is disagreeing with the government, and wants to make it illegal to disagree with the government?

Hmm. . . well, as an american indian, I can agree with closing the borders. Hey! All you damn foreigners! Get out!

Seriously. . . open borders is what makes this country great. Yeah, it's tough now what with the terrorism going on, but if it wasn't for this country's policy of open borders, a lot of bright minds that came here (or their ancestors) might not have ended up here. One thing my father always taught me, even tho the white man was a 'bad thing' for the indians, it did bring change, change that might have made things better. When I think about that, and the possiblity that I could be working on a fishing boat right now, in Southeaster Alaska. . . well, it's not for me. I like my gas heaters and my high-speed internet connection. . . I don't know how well I would have done 100 years ago. Well, that era does facinate me, so maybe I would have done alright.

But Savage? nah. . .he's the one talk show personality I can't listen to. I like Rush, we usually agree on a lot of things. Bill O'Reilly. . .well. . hit and miss. But there isn't too many out there (Besides Delighla and Dr. Laura) that make me turn them off as soon as I hear them.

Straying back towards the topic: Should the teacher be fired for 'suggesting' that you watch him? I would say 'no.' He may have other reasons as to why you should watch him. Perhaps he's trying to show a point of view that would not have been taken seriously if presented by him. Not for education, but enlightenment. Sort of like "Hey, get a load of this guy!" Maybe not. . .

Kudoes to you for at least looking into him. Sure, you don't agree. . . but you took the time to form that opinion yourself, instead of jumping on someone else's bandwagon.

Under Bush it practically is all ready - see the three or so threads about peace protesters being told to strip.

It clearly contradicts the First Amendment, as government approval is the qualification for being pursecuted.

When Nixon ran for the White House in 1968, he said he had a plan to end the Vietnam War. According to this act, a zealous DA could probably have arrested him.

Hey, wait a moment!
You wouldn't be that Savage fellow would you, sharpe?

PS

Do the words 'flag of many colours' mean anything to you?
Colonial English is the US national language, but other languages should be taught too.

Sabotaging production and having an opinion are a mite different Herr Sharpe.

I would love to see how you would handle the type of America you advocate.

You would be one of the first arrested I think....;)
