In a mod I am making, you are allowed to irrigate tundra since it sucks otherwise. My problem was that i was using snoopy's extra green mod, and bright green irrigation on tundra looked weird. So I made a few changes. A screenshot is below.

Details:

Grassland : Same as one supplied in Snoopy's extra green
Desert : Used the Plains irrigation from Snoopy's extra green
Plains : Darkened the Plains irrigation from Snoopy's extra green
Tundra : B&W version of the Grassland from Snoopy's extra green

The zip contains all 4 irrigation files. I posted on request from a friend.

NOTE: There is now more than one version of the irrigation. All downloads follow:

That looks good, the irrigation looks the way I have been looking; I will download it to my Civ 3 cmputer.

a snow covered one :p

Looks good GIDustin :goodjob: I, personally, would lighten or make yellower the desert irrigation a bit to give it even more contrast with the plains, but I think overall it's an improvement.

And to answer yoda, a field covered in snow :p Sometimes sacrificing realism for gameplay is a good thing ;)

A better question is what field is gray? A better approach might be to 'dust' the fields with snow.

yeah, use the brown one and dust it with white

I will see what I can do about the desert one. Adding more yellow may make it look better.

As for tundra, I can mess with graphics to a certain extent, but I cannot "lightly" cover a field in snow. I looked at yours yoda, but I only got to see it in PSP. I will put it in a game and see how it looks on a map. Maybe a little bit more snow, but otherwise it looks ok.

I made the desert a little more yellow, and added 11% contrast. I also threw in Yoda's tundra so we can see what it looks like. I will not post my new desert until I get it just right (which means I need feedback :p )

Much better!

There is really no way I know of to irrigate let alone farm frozen tundra/permafrost, aside from perhaps tapping some geothermal elements. It would be nice for the next version of Civ if they would allow unique terraforming capabilities that will allow the farming of this terrain type at some point.

Until then, I simply do not allow cities or terrain improvements on tundra other than the occasional colony for say walrus ivory, seal pelting, etc. Just some ideas. . .

The new tundra looks good (although I didn't mind the original :p) and I like the added contrast between desert and plains irrigation. The desert could still be a bit better, but I'm not sure how. Perhaps somewhat less yellow and more pale as right now it's pretty close to the unimproved plains color. Of course, if you make it paler you have to keep enough contrast with the bare desert so that it's still easy to see... :crazyeye:
Anyhow, keep up the good work. I like your new version more than your old version and that more than the original snoopy colors, so you're definitely improving things :D :goodjob:

That would work, except in maps where 95% of a continent is tundra, and a computer opponent starts there, and in 1000 AD you find them still wandering with their settler and then you have to start again so that the game will be a challenge. Granted this doesnt happen often, it does/will happen.

If only you could specify how much of each terrain will appear on your map. Even Wet Warm maps have some rather large spots of tundra.

You are right though, that you really cannot farm/irrigate tundra, but I am willing to sacrifice realism for better gameplay.

ok instead of altering in PSP, I took it into Photoshop and came up with 2 more tundras.

Excellent, that's pretty much what I was thinking of when I said 'dust it with snow'.
