A good idea... My goal is to provide a means and an incentive for players to upgrade all those obsolete HTH units before industrializing, because sometime in the 1600s the last European HTH & Arrow armies disapeared, and currently the game does not model that.
This new unit should provide the means and incentive to do so... But I don't want it to completely displace the trusty Musketman either...
How about these stats for the Napeolonic units:
Musketmen: 2.4.1 cost:40 + salt. Available w/ Gunpowder. Upgrades to Riflemen.
Grenadier: 6.3.1 cost:60 + salt. Available w/ Metallurgy. Upgrades to Guerilla.
Cannon: 0.0.1/8.1.2 cost:40 + salt & iron. Available w/ Metallurgy. Upgrades to Artillery.
Cavalry: 6.3.3 cost:80 + salt & horses. Available w/ Military Tradition. Does not upgrade. "Replaced" by Tanks.
**************************
Riflemen: 4.6.1 cost:50. Available w/ Nationalism. Upgrades to Infantry.
Guerilla: 8.6.1 cost:60. Available w/ Replaceable Parts. Does not upgrade.
Artillery: 0.0.1/12.2.3 cost: 60. Available w/ Replacable Parts. Upgrades to Radar Artillery.
Mostly Grenadier would exist to provide an effective upgrade for old Med Inf and Longbowman units... Cavalry have enough of an advantage vs cost to be the preferred offensive unit going into the Industrial Age.
My original idea was to keep the new Grenadier unit at 4.3.1 cost:50 + salt, to fit better into the existing upgrade path -- but I think that the Guerilla unit is a little under-powered, and the extra points for the Grenadier would work well in the game...
