I have an idea for an alternate UU for Germany -- the German Rifleman. (Could use some help naming it something with more flair...)

This would be an infantryman f/ 1850 to 1900 or so... It would replace the current Rifleman for Germany.

It would have their trademark spiked helmet.

This is the unit that Germany used to defeat France in 1871. It would put Germany's Golden Age right about the time that Otto von Bismarck consolidated the nation.

It's stats would be A4.D8.M1/Cost 80s (no resources.)

Even with the development of Infantry (and Guerilla) the unit would still have limited use as a defensive unit through the end of the game because it does not require resources to build.

The Panzer that it replaces is only a so-so unit. It's extra speed is not as useful in the age of rail, and it will soon enough be replaced by Modern Armor. Also the Panzer sparks a Golden Age that corresponds historically to bad times for Germany. This unit is timed to usher in the GA on schedule.

Please let me know if you like the idea and help me to name the unit.

***Not a graphics request -- a rules Mod idea***But this is the closest appropriate forum to that...***

There are already several different German and Prussian Riflemen available - check out the Unit Library thread in the Completed Units forum.

That's good reasoning with the golden age. As zulu said, there is already such a unit called the Prussian Fusilier, aswell as the french and british counterparts of the era. Look under 19th century riflemen in the unit library.

What a good idea :D

I think you will find what you are looking for here: 19th Century Riflemen

I called it a Prussian Fusilier. As you stated, it was under Bismark that the Prussians really rose to military prominance, devastating the Austrians in 1866 and France in 1870-1871, leading to the formation of the German Empire.

Generally elite units of this era where Fusiliers or Grenadiers.

I would make it a 6.6 rather than a 4.8, this was an era when Germany was on the offensive and these units should be used on the attack.
