Well,I must be a fanatic also as I decided to play a few more turns last night after reaching 1 ad.Next thing I know,I'm finished.Bummer.

I have a problem though.I saved after I bribed the last city.Game ended fine.Gave me the particulars etc.

I think:I wonder if it will give the same score if I load my final save in MGE.I load er up..BUT...The game won't end.Hmmm..I load it back up in classic and same deal.It won't end.I guess I should have saved BEFORE bribing that last city.Fortunately I took a screen shot of my final score.

So..several things could happen:
1.The screenshot will be counted
2.Play the whole thing over-not good as I now know the map
3.Replay from my 1000ad save.My game ends in 1040ad..only 2 turns to replay.

Here is a kinda,sorta but not really game log:

4000-1 settler heads for hut.1 heads southeast.

3900-another hut uncovered and a river.Will found cap on the river and build 2nd city in starting spot

My final score was around 343 or something (44%). I never play emperor level.

This is strange...

I got the excact same score as you Smash.

I know there is a bug about saving the game after the last city is captured, but I saved just before I took the last city.

Also when I took the last city the game didn`t end, I had to retire to finish

The "first" time I finished it went normally."your civlization has conquered the world blah blah"
But the save,when reloaded,wouldn't end.

The only thing I have seen in past is there is 1 settler "hiding" somewhere.But that wasn't the case in my game.

I did save before taking the last city,but when I saw I had to press enter before the game would end,I figured this would be a better save and overwrote my previous one.WRONG

I wonder if we compare our games we might find clues as to how the conquer bonus is awarded.I think it is safe to say our games and civs are not identical....

Well I finished in 1140ad and had 694 points before I took the last city. My final score was 1540.

I loaded my 1000ad save to see what happened if I finished then.(I was just waiting to celebrate my cities to size 8 ) This time I had 441 points before I took the last city, but my final score was still 1540...

Good work Smash (and Knigget). I don't have the conversion tables to hand (you'll have to ask Matrix for that), but I guess people will have to get a GOTM score of over 7000 to beat you. Or does it... ?

Actually this raises an interesting issue, because the GOTM scoring system already includes an early finish bonus, and this will be on top of the game's own early finish bonus. Should both be included? If "yes", then if the GOTM bonus for the year 1040 CE is actually x4.47 (as I estimate), Knigget scores 6879 with both bonuses. If "no", he scores 1970 with just the GOTM bonus.

Good point.

Also because the early finish bonus that is built into the game is buggy its probably a good idea to remove it...

My running score at 1000ad is 405.The score in the save that won't end is:bonus score 1540.Somehow that recognizes I have finshed.

So Kniggets civ is a little better/bigger but I finish a little earlier and we get the same score.Hmmm....
I had 1 civ conquered by the Zulus.It was the Greeks although the PG says English.
Did you(Knigget) have any civs conquered by other ais?
Since our scores our the same,I would surmize you also had 1 civ conquered by an AI.
If not,it gets more mysterious than clear.

My PG says Carthaginians, and I played against the greeks also(of course)

Anyway to settle the bonus score issue I loaded my 1000ad save again and I played until 1140 without increasing my points. This time I had 466 points when I took the last city, but my final score was still 1540.

So 694 and 466 points give the same final score on the same turn. This must be a bug.

Well no I don't think its a bug.The manual says the game compares the scores(running and bonus) and awards the higher of the 2.

Geez I was hoping for a clue to exact amount awarded per civ...but....The manual says it gives points for the # of civs conquered and the speed.

It would be easy if was 50 points per civ and 10 points per game turn left but NO that would be too simple....
 
Maybe its a fixed bonus on intervals of turns.

Example: 1540 from 1000ad to 1250ad

and so on
 
OK I`ve found that there is a cap to the bonus before turn 250. After that it decreases by 2 per turn. At least in this game.
 
I figured out how it works. The bonus depends on map size, number of civs in the game, difficulty level and finishing turn. It doesnt matter who killed the civs.

A table for medium map, emperor level:

The bonus per turn is:

(1640-1300)/(420-250)=2 (just for these settings)

So for every turn before 420 you get 2 more bonus points. This stops at turn 250 if you have "dont restart eliminated civs" turned on.

Mwahahahaha! Even though I'm not quick conquering, I have a pet city, and I'm going to build up my population. It's about 1750 right now, and I have 141%, and I'm just started! Mwahahaha!

Ever have a game totally turn around?

I was ruling the GOTM 3 and the next thing I know the Zulus are WAY ahead of me in tech!!! And my conquest has been stopped short,

because they got gunpowder. I still am the only on with Leadership but Musketter behind City walls, destroys me. I do have 2 cities on their contient and they are heavly defended. I did have to cut off the roads though in order to stop their attacks. The Persians are pushovers....They Elephants are no match for me but they are also at war with the Zulus so it's a good idea to keep them around.

Some good things have popped up recently. I got 2 advanced tribes. A size 3 with a marketplace, temple, grainery, and library. And a size 4 with a temple, marketplace, and grainery, and disorder to boot! Anyway.....I guess diplos will be used to LEVEL the playing field, get rid of those walls. My Great Wall recently expired so I have to rebuild most of my walls. And the Zulus also have Ironclads!!! The keep bombing my costal cities. But I have a few costal fortresses now and they are going down!!!

I don't know if I'll be able to win this GOTM either.

Not turn around but get bogged down.

Been playin a fun 20x230 deity game where I was militarily rolling along.I got a tad lazy and left an avenue open after taking a city.Bang-here comes Mr Diplomat-Celts steal Gunpowder...Egyptians aquire GP from Celts etc.
Major bog down as crusaders loose to muskets more often than not.
Allrighty,I think,I let my dips take over till Leadership.I bribed a few cities but they were very expensive and soon after the AIs go Democracy...argh.Leadership comes along and I start rolling again.More losses,but rolling.
Then....bang..Egptians steal Conscription.@##$..more bog down.Ok..same deal until Tactics.
You guessed it....Celts steal Tactics.Ok..now I have to wait until Machine Tools.

I did eventually put the final city to the torch,but it took eons longer than it should have.3 little acts of espionage added hundreds of years.Not to mention all the additional resources and units.

Fortunately the ai is not very resourceful or that game might still be going on.
 
Oh, dear.... I've been waiting to get on this 'spoiler' topic until I was at least on the final lap of my GOTM III, but I was afraid of what I'd find. Sounds like I'm slipping down the rankings for sure!

My current situation is pathetic: 1790 AD, and no chance of ending it before the mid-1800's. Maybe 1900. The Zulus haven't been hassling me much, but I haven't even scouted most of their landmass yet. Even though I have G. WAll for the time being, I'm still attacking with knights, and everyone has gunpowder (damn thieving Persians!)

My battles have been beneath sad. Believe it or not, the Sioux gave me trouble. I didn't pop a single recon unit from a hut, and the barbarians kept coming in from the east like beating up on me was about to go out of style. Definitely my slowest start ever.

I can't believe it! I've had easier Deity-level games. Guess this is my payback for doing well in GOTM I, when everyone else was floundering due to terrain...
