I came up with a crazy idea: What if there were a succession game where the actual designated players were elected to play? (Keep in mind that I have never participated in a succession game before) The rules will be as follows:
-The Designated Player will be elected by an open forum vote in this thread of the members of this game.
-The Designated Player must play no fewer than 5 and no more than 20 turns within 24 hours of his/her election and must post a savegame when he/she is finished playing. If the Designated Player fails to do so, the person who came in second in the most recent elections will become the Designated Player.
-No member may hold the postion of Designated Player for consecutive turns.
-Nominations for Designated Player will be held after the previous election has been concluded. A nomination must be accepted before a player can be a candidate in elections.
-Other open polls on matters related to this game may be posted.
-I will be in charge of conducting elections and other polls.
-An unlimited amount of members may participate. Prospective members must post in this thread or PM me to participate in this game. Only members of this game may participate in elections.

Here are the game settings:
-Patch: PTW 1.21
-Civilization: Persia
-Map Size: Standard
-Difficulty Level: Regent
-Opponents: 7 random opponents
-Map Type: Pangaea
-Water Coverage: 70%
-Respawn: Off
-All victories are enabled

This is the roster of members in this game:
bootstoots
bewareofgnomes
noldodan
lord_all_mighty
despot
gingerbread man

Here is the 4000 BC savegame:

ill join, regent should be easy, especially with persia.

Are there any term limits. For example, if you just played, are you unable to be a candidate for the next turn? At the very least, there should be no consecutive player turns (or would it be terms in this context?)

Also, what kind of time limits were you thinking about with the whole nomination / election process? IMO: SG's easily lose and gain momentum and long election leadtimes can hamper playability.

I do think that an easier level like regent is a good testing ground for this variant.

I'll add a term limit that does not allow people to be Designated Player for consecutive turns. The DP plays once, then the nomination/election cycle repeats. I was thinking about a 36-hour time frame for nominations and another 36 hours for elections, so that the whole cycle is over after 72 hours.

At one turn every 5 days, the game's pace will too slow (IMO). By the time the second election is held, a regular SG would have completed 4 player turns.

I will watch this threads progress - Good Luck

I'll shorten the elections and nominations to 24 hours each, and the time for posting a savegame to 24 hours as well. I really can't shorten it any than that, however. This way, the longest it should normally take is 3 days.

then, we should play for 20 turns, or something like that.

I will start nominations when I see that we have at least five members. All CFC users are invited to join by post in this thread or by PM.

mind if I join?

What is a succession game, again?

To be honest, there will be no elections. I alone will decide who goes and what they should do. I will lay out exact instructions and should someone ignore my orders they will be hung like the bottom feeders they are.

Or I could always rig the elections. :mwaha:

Yes, we are. Nominations are now open for the position of Designated Player. They will be open for a period of 24 hours or until two nominations are accepted. All registered members may be nominated and may nominate other regestered members, including themselves. You must accept a nomination before you may be a candidate for Designated Player.

i gladly accept your nomination, and i would like to nominate Despot to go first.
