Simple. ;)

I voted no. I like postcount a little for some reason (somehow it's kinda satisfying to hit the big 100, or 1000, or 2000, etc.), and I don't see what's so bad about it. I seriously doubt too many people think of users with less posts than them as being worse or less valuable posters. And some people say that postcount causes a lot of mess, such as the RPG Post Debate, but I don't think that's much of a mess.

Edit: Actually, I wouldn't mind at all if we could all see our own postcount, but not others'.

I'm not sure I care one way or the other. Post count means nothing to me, but some people do like to see it and might not post here if it wasn't displayed. When it was first displayed there was concern over elitism - people evaluating the worth of members by their PC. I haven't seen that happen a whole lot, so I see no reason to hide the PC.

So here I sit, happily on the fence.

I believe that's how it used to be ...

Actually when I first came here postcount was hidden but you can still see it in your profile

So if you want to know how colse you are to any postcount 'milestones' just look in the user CP ;)

BTW yes :p

How come you didn't vote for the "Don't Care" option then?

Then I wouldn't be sitting on the fence anymore, I would have actually made a committment ... even if it is committing to being noncommittal.

I voted Yes on this. Aside from the custom title/custom avatar milestones, I don't see much of a purpose in post counts. In order to keep track of such things or for simple curiosity, it'd be good if a poster could see his/her own somehow, but IMHO having everyone's publicly displayed just invites useless comparisons and elitism.

As for the idea that post counts are so important to some people that they wouldn't post here with them hidden, I say good riddance to anyone who feels that way. The point of the forums is gaming and discussion; it's not a contest to see who can get the most posts.

For what it's worth, the only time when another user's post count has mattered to me is when I reply to someone I don't recognize who has less than 10 posts and a recent registration. In that case I will normally add a "Welcome to CFC :)" to the end of my reply and if they have posted to the wrong spot under C&C I am a lot more polite in pointing out the error ;) If post count was hidden, I'd just look at registration date in that case.

If you don't care, then why would you waste your time on voting??

It's like when people whine in OT if someone doesn't put a don't care option in their poll. Almost seems like some people get their jollies off on voting. Give me a break.

As for me I voted yes. There just isn't a reason to show postcounts and the more I see it mentioned, the stronger I feel about this.

I thought everyone would vote just to see the results when they visit the page. I wasn't having a go at Dralix, I was just confused. ;)

Post count should be hidden, except you should be able to see your own. It doesn't matter what others post counts are, the only one that matters is your own.

If TF decides to hide postcounts for other people but allow people to see their own, IMO, it would be slightly more convenient if a user could see his/her postcount beside each of his/her posts, like normal. Obviously not a big deal, but it's one less click. ;) (And of course it's not like anyone needs to constantly see their postcount, so it's really just a teeny weeny deal.) Of course, it might be difficult or impossible to do this; I certainly don't know.

I voted yes also. The peverse thing is that hiding it might actually induce me to post more, since personally I cringe everytime I notice that my p/c has increased by another 100 posts or so and realise just how much of my time I must have spent writing the damn things :cringe:

I voted no. When I'm a newbie to forums, usually having a visible postcount allows me to see who is who, such as who's new, who's a vet, and who's just part of the crowd. Sure it's approxiamete, but it helped back then, and date joined doesn't always say everything. It might not be so much use to people who have been here at CFC for a while (those at two thousand range or so) because they know most people, but to newbies, it can be quite important.

Eliminating the postcount would eliminate the need for such a big dog identification system, wouldn't it? I mean, wouldn't it kind of eliminate the big dogs anyways?

Why do you even need to know that? Why is it important? Just because someone is new, doens't mean that their opinions are any less valid than someone who's racked up 2000+ posts. And vice-versa.

It might mean, however, that they're respected; by taking them on you might incur the wrath of their posse :p.
