The GOTM community continues to grow and at the same time we are expanding the level of service and the number of participation options that players have both as individual or casual players and as members who may want to explore deeper options for participation centered around CivIII and Strategy Gaming in general.

We always welcome new volunteers and would like to invite you to join the existing Staff members to help continue our evolution/revolution process as we expand the GOTM to be the premier set of Civ Gaming events available world wide.

The basic minimum criteria for filling a staff role is that:
  • You must be willing to commit to a period of 3 to 6 months in order to have some effect.
  • You must be an active GOTM player that can regularly complete and submit games so you will have a valid player's perspective.
  • You need to have some independent skills that let you positively contribute in your own way while still having fun in playing the games.
We currently have open staff positions and needs in the following important areas:

  • Organized people with fast internet connections and some moderate to strong files management and ftp skills.
  • People with strong statistical and Excel/Spreadsheet skills to help facilitate long term scoring and statistical analysis.
  • Someone who is a fast reader and good text editor to help with indexing and game reviews.
  • Someone with basic html and webpage development skills to help with many of the monthly formatting and reporting tasks.
  • Volunteers to serve in support, "greeter" and mentor roles for players who may be new to the GOTM games.

Plus if there are special aspects of the game and features that you feel we may want to develop and you would like to work on these concepts, then you may volunteer to work with one or more of the existing staff members to help test and shape your concept.

Please feel free to PM me or contact me by email a gotm@civfanatics.net if you would like to join the existing team of highly motivated and successful Civfanatics that make of the GOTM staff.

I might be able to do this (but does that person have to put it into html?) but lately I haven't been submitting my gotms - just qscs. I didn't submit gotm17 nor this month's gotm18 - I'm a lot more concerned about the game start than before.

I could commit starting in June for three months - less stress during no school.

This is not a signup.

However, the first question that comes to mind is around how many hours a month need to be committed?

Although I am not a statistician I use and manipulate statistics on a daily basis as part of my job function. I may or may not be a suitable candidate depending on what you require from the data. I have access to (and can use) a couple of pieces of software (Minitab and Crystal Ball) the ouptut from which can be dumped into Excel. So if you are thinking of doing nothing more exciting than simple regression, central limit theorum, Anderson-Darling normality (p testing), and some fairly simple monte carlo type predictive work then I would be glad to help.

I have a fast internet connection at work and at home and I am unlikely to stop Civving in the near future.

Obviously I am a rubbish player, but at least I have some time to devote..... maybe 15 hours a week or so.

I enjoy being part of this community, but can't contribute anything useful from a gameplay point of view. It would be nice to be able to give something back in another way.

Sorry, no can do now. Maybe once I hit bachogwa (it's still hard to find that page!).

That's a funny smiley!

Not hardly!! You won't get off that easy. ;)

Hopefully we will be finding people who will enjoy doing one of the 23 jobs I have been doing in the path finder mode so I can do one of the 47 jobs I have not been doing due to lack of time.

Karasu: I wasn't trying to be clever with my post, and I am certainly not after your job. I just want to help if I can.

I was thinking of being the oily rag rather than the mechanic. :)

No problems, mad-bax: "trying to be clever" is certainly not the impression your post gives (to me at least). :)

Ehm... to be honest, you do look more qualified than me...

So, if you really want to help, just keep on negotiating with Cracker, but read his post above and beware of the hidden meaning of his name... :whipped: ;)

Is there a page to go to to learn more about the different staff/volunteer positions? I'm wondering what the plans are for greeter/mentor roles. (Don't have extra Civtime but can surf the forum from my T1 connection at work.)

When my spell as admin of the elite division of the Tournament comes to an end, I'll be available to lend a hand around here if its required.

I'm a fast reader but i'm still a newbie. That buddy system sounds like a good idea i got hammered in gotm18 and am not doing any better in 19.Having different levels like the tourny might work too.Newbies like myself get crushed on these higher levels. We should start at the bottom and work our way up

I have considered volunteering, but I didn't know what I could do to help. Now I have bought a new harddrive (30 GB). With that and my cable, maybe I could be of some help?

I'm pretty good with Excel. What kind of weekly effort is needed to be helpful?

Well, summertime is coming up. If anyone has yet to volunteer to fill these roles, I'd be up to it. :)
