1700 BC - The Iron Rush Project

Our settler is heading east to establish our 3rd city!

The current plan is for this settler to settle on the gold hill NE of Zhi Gang and have the 4th settler settle nearby the eastern iron source.

However, there is a new idea afloat and should be polled (hence the purpose of this thread).

Option 1 - (No change in plans) - Settle the gold hill first, then settle the tile due east of the eastern iron deposit.

Option 2 - Settle the tile due east of the iron deposit first. Change the build queue in Shen Ling to settler and use that settler to settle the gold hill second.

Details:

Under Option 1 - we will settle the gold hill on our 3rd turn (ie. Turn 56). The next settler will be completed on our 7th turn (ie. Turn 60). Assuming there are no delays in road production from our worker, the 2nd settler will likely settle the tile E of iron on our 13th Turn (ie. Turn 66).

Under Option 2 - our settler moves on past the gold hill en route to the tile east of iron. Without the benefit of roads, he will be able to settle the iron city on our 8th turn (ie. Turn 61). Changing the production queue in Shen Ling will complete the settler in 6 turns instead of 7 which means the gold hill city can be founded on our 9th turn (ie. Turn 62).

If we could be 100% positive that GCA won't try to settle that iron source, then I'd be 100% in favor of Option 1. The commerce from that gold hill city over those 10 turns could go a long way towards researching Mathematics. Not to mention the 10 turns of +4 unit support to boot.

However, we must make sure that Fanatikou controls that source of iron. I would recommend keeping the questions vague, like: "Do you have any plans to settle on our side of Balance of Power?"

Either way, I think it's time we brought the warriors in to ensure no passage from BoP to the iron source.

I was the first to vote. And I voted for Option 2 - Iron Ore then Gold Hill.

If GCA intends to settle the Iron we MUST be first!

Though there are two notes:
- Will we be able to fend of an attack from GCA at this time?
- The settler will still use two turns to get to the gold hill tile. In that time we could have gotten more information about the GCA settler.

I am starting to change my mind. I don't think the GameCathcer Alliance would be foolish enough to plant a city so close to us. That would be asking to be attacked.

I am holding on to my vote for now.

Gold! I am a big gold city fan. It's been my agenda since I started here, even WITH credible reason to do otherwise. I agree with Goonie that GCA would be stupid to settle their and risk war.

I voted option 1. I do not believe that GC is stupid enough to settle there, and if they do we can kick their ass' for it. Right now we need the commerce of Cha Ching!


Are we truly worried about them settling the Iron so far from home? Think of the risks they would be running. Firstly, they would have to road all the way to the Iron, which would take them a long time, and be make them vulnerable to our attacks. Secondly, there city will be in the middle of our territory very far from home. I do not think GC would take all these risks.

We should settle on the golden hill for immediate effect(the gold support) while we build a road to the iron.

BTW, wouldn't you think GC is thinking the same way we are. What if they dont have iron and take the one we are planning to take?? What if they just want to corrupt our plans and just settle there to delay us? They must think like us and we have to know that. If we were them we would try to do the same.

After lots and lots of thinking, I'd like to recast my vote to settling at Cha Ching instead of Iron City. I'm pretty sure we can reach the iron before CGA even after settling Cha Ching.

"Cha Ching" lol, sounds like a good city name...

Unfortunately, I didn't come up with the idea... I would have been proud !

I vote that we claim the iron for oursevles immeadiately. Considering their settlement of BoP, which, I believe, is far away from Catchopolis, it wouldn't be a stretch for them to do so.

Build the iron city next to secure the greatness of The Empire!

Stop being such Iron addicts! If GCA takes it, it will only weeaken themselves. If we rush to take it, it weakens ourselves.

To win you can't just rely on one resource. We must sustain a powerful, self sufficient economy and industry.

This is a big mistake on our part...

Cha ching was our chance to get some much needed money! I think it is foolish to believe GCA will settle so far from home!

If Catchopolis is far from BoP like Oct said, They would not settle so far as it would take them forever to road that far, and how would they defend it? Think logically people, they wouldn't!

We should re-poll with 40J's new situation brought up in the T/C thread.

I agree on a re-poll because in light of the new situation, I would cast my vote differently.
