Why do I play at 1024 x 768? What about TFT users.

Why do I play this game at 1024 x 768. Isnt it possible to play it at a higher resolution? If no: why not?

I got a TFT and can only run at 1280 x 1024. If I run it at lower resolutions the TFT will do some kind of interpolation which will make the screen look ugly (on most cases).

Surprisingly the game still looks good. But still my question stand. Why can't we play at higher resolutions and did the developers took in account that there are quite a number of TFT users.

yes, the KeepRes=1 is the best, this means that whatever reolustion you have yourscreen at, the game will load in tht size res.
in the readme file there soemthing abotumakign it perminanmtly 1 res (instead of chahing with your res on your normal screen), btu i cant remember. jsut go into readme fiel and searh for res.

Additionally, if you want to play at a resolution different than 1024x768 which is also different from your standard res (so that KeepRes=1 wouldn't be useful), the relevant INI settings are:
Video Mode=XXXX
Refresh=YY

Where XXXX is the width of your resolution (e.g. "1280" for 1280x1024, "1600" for 1600x1200, etc) and YY is the vertical refresh rate in Hz (e.g. "75")

anywhere. The top of the list would be fine.

What line did you exactly add/change?

Btw, for me, it worked fine adding the line "Video..." at the end of the .ini file (vanilla), so I guess it's pointless where to put the line.

Thanks guys. I did what you told me BUT it lookes just to small (on a 17.4'' TFT) so I went back to 1024*768.

People who play this game at 15" TFT will watch pretty small units. Must be annoying. Lets hope Firaxis is aware of this.

now the Civ3.exe file is a dos program and the game doesn't start...
By chance, you created a dos version! :goodjob:  ;)

PS: If you accidently scrap the ini file (imagine your cat making gymnastic exercises on the keyboard), just remove it (the cat and the ini file), then start game. A new ini file should be created.

teturkhan, you said you edited the .exe files?

Please say that was a typo! Otherwise, I *know* why your game doesn't work!

I was thinking the same thing. Glad I read through all the posts before responding.

BTW Teturkhan. :nono: you should have backed up the files before making changes.

The INI files which are what should be edited are Civilization3.ini in the civ3 install folder for vanilla civ3, or ptw.ini in the ptw install folder for PTW.
