Treadin' trodden trails...
This may have been asked before, but I couldn't search and it's been driving me mad for months.

What dictates the order that users are listed in the "users browsing this forum" list? I've tried every theory I can think of (alphabetical, post count, time online, date registered) and I can't make anything work. All I know is that I'm always last, but that may be because I'm me, and me is always last (if you know what I mean).

Thunderfall with user # 1 will be first if he is on. I ,with user #10, (and 2 thru 9 are reserved for admins, test log on, or otherwise do not post), will be second if TF and I are on.

lefty, how long after the site came up did you register? same day?

EDIT: my reason for asking is that according to the user info, you signed up two days before thunderfall did.

Thunderfall used the generic "Admin 5" for this first day and half of the current forums, later creating the Thunderfall admin log on, and, I believe, switching is user# with "admin 5"
here is page 1080 of members ordered by date; (edit, the last page will get pushed to a higher # as new posters register)
http://forums.civfanatics.com/membe...r=&postsupper=&direction=DESC&pagenumber=1080
earliest date is at the bottom, while lowest number within the date is at the top of the day registered. Scroll over the names to get the numbers. Thunderfall and more "Old timers" (before UBB) are on the prior page, 1078. 1 thru 7 are apparently reserved for admins and date before the UBB was initialized late on 10/24/2000, except to the Thunderfall log on, renumbered to 8 & 9 just registered to protect their nicks. IIRC, SunTzu (Then Gregorious Lux) was TF's first staff member, some months before the UBB. A few other guys who have not been active on the UBB contributed to the 'Main Page" back before the UBB. For some time before the UBB, CFC used the Civ section of old strategy game forums (now gone). I actually just a 2 or 3 months before the UBB, in the summer of 2000; CFC had been around about 6 months beofore that, and under a different name and sites, back into 1999 and 1998.

Among the oldest parts of the site are (in the CivII section) the war academy, AI stupidties, the game, Timelines.

ah, the good ole days of CFC, before it blew up and started to kick apolyton's butt :p

i think the people who have been at this site the longest that are still around, are TF(of course), lefty(i believe i remember seeing leftys name at the OLD forum:lol:) and me. I can't believe i once posted some of the news articles on the sites main page :p

So then shouldn't you be 2 of 19 :borg: , Lefty? :mischief:

Thats 6 out of 19 moderators. 5 moderators, Thunderfall, JValdezToo, Matrix, Smash, & Stomerne were staff members before I went insane and become a moderator.

For the old old ones of prehistory, check the authors of the articles in the Civ2 war academy. A few of the articles are later additions. Only TF and SunTzu can tell much about then. A few other old ones like Shargon, or Warlord56 wander by now and then. Case posts in the game forums. The last pages of the mebers list, sort by date registered, should show most of the guys active when the UBB started. They would have resgisted in Oct 2000.

Just put the cusor over the profile button in yours or someone elses post to see the user number in the bar at the baottem of IE

Oh.. I'm lost reading the early OT threads.. It's great stuff :)

(And who was this HARDMAN and MIG21? :D)

HARDMAN is a covername for a group of persons who do forum spam invasions with him. "he" is perma banned with hours of his appearance (called HARMANNING a forum) anywahere. There will be a trhead at one of his home forums describing what what forum is being or to be hardmaned, given the password for 'his' registration, and a few of them will take turns spamming the target with MARDMAN threads hutil 'he' is banned.
MIG21 was an unreformable troll. If you run a forum , you should yourself register a HARDMAN DL, and oermaban it.
