Hello ! I decided to start a new thread for my 1st SG, because my 1st attempt somehow died. :(
Anyway, I'm sure some people will wish to join me here. :)
I'm in holidays now ! :) So let's start a sequel of great succesion games ! :cool:

We are playing with PTW 1.21f.

Here are the settings of the game (according to samildanach, thank you for the generated games) :

World Size = Standard
Land Mass and Water Coverage = Pangaea with 60% water
Climate / Temperature / Age = Normal / Temperate / 4 Billion
Barbarians = Roaming
Civ = Americans
Number of Opponents = 7 (pre-selected, non-expansionnist civs : Babylonians, Chinese, Egyptians, French, Greeks, Ottomans, Romans)
Available Victories = All
Difficulty = Deity
Not culturally linked, no restarting players.

We will try to use no exploit at all and play honourably. We won't stop or reload the game if we found out that someone used an exploit, though. Lists of exploits can be found here and there, find them !
Also, because this is a succession game, try to follow these rules (they aren't meant to be strict) :
- don't set up governors in our cities ;
- don't set up automated workers ;
- don't set up auto-goto units.

We will all play 20 turns in the 1st round, and 10 turns from then. You have 24 hours to post your saved game OR to post a "got it" message. If you post a "got it", then you are allowed a total 48 hours to post your saved game.
Don't hesitate to post questions, suggestions, strategy thinking, before or after your turn ! Don't hesitate to play as you want to (if you think the previous player has messed a little, for example), as long as we agree on a general strategy. We'll learn things that way. I'll try to post comments after each turn, so we can discuss what to do next every 10 turns (20 in the beginning) ; I encourage everyone to participate in the debate !

Remember : we're here to learn and enjoy playing Civ3 !!!

We will start when we are 5 players. If you want to participate, please tell your preference in the roster (I'll be 1st anyway).

The roster :
kryszcztov
Rik Meleet
samildanach
Doshin
Yndy

Because I'm French and I own the French version of the game, I asked samildanach to generate the game with his original version, so as everyone who owns it will play with full English text. :) In fact he gave me 3 starting positions with the same settings (see post above), so now we have to choose which one we want to play. I did not play a single turn on each map, and so did samildanach (do you confirm ?), so we have to think about what would suit us best. Explain what you think of them, and vote your wish list (1st, 2nd, 3rd). I'll vote too, and then the winning start will be our game.

Here they are :

I am NOT signing up.

However, you may want to pick a different civ.
RPB11A/B just started as America.

Hi Krys, I'm in! No I haven't started any of these games-they were selected purely on the basis of the start position after cycling through a number of randomly generated maps.
My personal preferences are A and C on the basis that they are nearer the centre of the map and may help us to make best advantage of our expansionist trait.
I'm not concerned that another SG is using the Americans- we will use them better.:hammer:

We need another 3 players ! Please sign up if you're interested !

As for my choice between the 3 starting positions :
1- C
2- A
3- B
I'd like to play with Start C, because yes, it's near the equator, and I'd like to see how we can manage with those flood plains and those forests altogether. This could be an interesting micro-management.

So, come on everyone ! I won't let this die again !!! :D

Well, it sounds cool, but I have never won on deity, In fact the best I've done personnaly is only a warlord win. But I am part of an SG on maonarch that is doing well and will win:).

anyway, only if ya want a rookie, student or whatever I would be called. I'm a little hesitant to post here though

I did play and lost gotm20 and played 1 other deity game along time ago when I had no clue whatsoever.

If ya don't want me, Thats cool, cause I was kind of thinking of starting a mid-level sg game myself.. so....

Mmmh well... You don't seem to be enthousiast about going in this game, or you think I won't allow you anyway. ;) My advice is that you should start a mid-level game yourself and recruit people there before getting to the next stage. Deity is such a step from Emperor that I was crying a few weeks ago about this crappy AI (leading to these unfair AI advantages...). But now I'm starting to do fine at Deity (just won my GOTM20). So just read many SG and play some just above your ordinary solo level.

I'm not kicking you out of here, heh. ;) I'm even searching 3 more players... But a team has to be solid. I'll enjoy playing a game with you on a lower level, though, if you don't manage to get to a harder level by then. Maybe one day I'll run a practice game, we'll see...

Have fun and enjoy. :)

Not a prob, We just finished our MOnarch sg today and I had fun and learned alot.

I was doing ok on gotm 20, however I was just too tentative to go to war, which that and poor decisions on my part, well you get the idea.

Thanks for the advice and I will see ya around:)

Can I join ? I've not played Deity before, but just this weekend I won my 3rd Emperor game.

I will be on holiday from July 22nd to August 11th.

For the map: Perhaps A or C. All 3 are near the coast, or a large lake. I prefer A over C for the 2 Wheat tiles in the 1st 9 tiles so it makes a great Settler factory.

Rik Meleet, welcome to my SG ! It's OK for you to play here because you're on the way to Deity, like I was 2 months ago. I think having beaten the Emperor AI may be the prerequisite for this SG, as I don't want a roster full of Deity masters (that I'm not, if you ask), but I don't want players who are far from this level. That's why I told OneFastWarrior to continue the learning on a lower level, but if you read this, OneFastWarrior, I promise I'll start a game on a lower level one day, if this is one runs, though ; I saw you've been trying to learn a lot (in GOTM) in the past months, so carry on ! :)

Rik Meleet, noted for your holidays, but we still have 3 weeks with you, so it's OK. So your vote goes for Start A, alright.

We need 2 more players ! Hurry up ! The great American civilization waits for its heroes ! :goodjob:

EDIT : BTW, I like your quote in your sig... :D :lol:

Can I join? I've got a few Emperor wins under my belt, but I've only checked out deity once (I gave up as the start went from bad to worse). But I'm sure a group of us will win with no problems :smoke:

Whether I play or not, I vote for site C, then A, then B. Although it would be easier to judge if you moved the worker to the first tile that would be worked... it will give us a little more info to go by.

Welcome here, Doshin ! You're at the point where I was 2 months ago : Emperor quite OK, but Deity making me depressive. :lol: Noted for your vote about the starts, you voted the same as me. :)

If everyone here is still waiting for the game to start, we only need ONE more player. Come on !
I may set up the roster according to the players' locations and skills. We'll see...

Also, don't hesitate to check the 1st post, as it displays edited information.

I would like to join, I've played diety a few times(I prefer Emporor)

I say A's the best. It has that goody hut, a river, some wheat, and plains for good production

I would join the game as my second SG. The first failed in flames due to a rough start plus the player’s lack of interest when chances to win diminished.

I would not like that to happen again. I would suggest we try the RCP format developed by daviddesj and described here: link

Given that I’d like to try RCP, my preferences are A (no coast in sight), C (coast in sight) and B (coast spotted near the mountain).

Don’t want to sound pessimistic but it won’t be easy at all. Not at all like GOTM 20. Honourable is good for the start but I’d suggest we make our final decision later in the game. There are lots of exploits and I expect we would use some grey ones to survive (those allowed unde GOTM rules, like ship chaining).

Your thoughts krys?

Saw that, but I hoped it's desert. You sure it's coast? I'm not a hawk you know.

Wow ! 2 players for the last spot at the same time !!! :eek: (Yndy posting after bacon king, but longer post, so roughly same time)

I'm a bit embarrassed now. :D I'd like only 5 players including me, all the more as (are these 4 last words correct ? or is it "all the more than" ?) we will play 20 turns each in the 1st round. So, to both of you : only one can join, but I don't want to chose, so maybe if one of you already has tons of games to play elsewhere, the other could stay here ? And I could keep the names for a future game (like with OneFastWarrior...).

@ samildanach : Could you post here or send me a PM to re-confirm your interest for this game ? It's been more than 10 days, even though I'm sure you still want to play here. After all, you're the father of these maps... If you don't contact me before 48 hours, let's say I go with both Yndy and bacon king ; I would not like to do that, though.

And Yndy, thanks for the link for this strategy, I wanted to know where I had already seen it ! Guess I will have to read this before playing GOTM21... But we won't try this here (whatever this can be) ; this is my 1st SG, and I just want the game to move now, and keep things simple for everyone. In the future, I will try variants (definitely), so maybe I will give this one a go...

About honourable play : well, I've just joined the Realmsbeyond communauty, and I think I will try to stick more and more with their rules, even though I won't consider what they call an exploit a treacherous move here. If anyone would like to use something that might be an exploit, tell me here before you actually play your turns and I'll give my answer. This SG is a standard game ; just, we will try to avoid really bad moves, that's all, but that's not a rigid rule, the last thing I want is to fight ourselves about this or that move... And yeah this is Deity, it won't be easy, but we CAN win, and BTW, we WILL actually !!! :cool:

its fine, i'll just wait till the next one.

edit: or i could be used as a backup player if someone drops out
