I have read several comments about changing settings for the cities Governor. I do not know how to access the governor. Can you tell me how, which verson allows this, or any additional info, thanks.

Any version allows this. Right click on the city you want to change & it will bring up a list of options. One of those is governors(below hurry production I believe).

I don't recomend using governers untill late in the game when it no longer matters as they are INSANLY ********! The AI will **** you city all up, but you won't go into disorder;)

Also, in the city screen, all you need to do is press 'G.' In PTW and civ III 1.29f, there's a govenor button next to the draft button and rush buy button; just click it.

The ONLY use I have for governors is in a city with resistors. Ususally once they are subdued they become unhappy so "The resistance in X has ended" is immediately followed by "Civil Disorder in X" unless you have a governor on the job.
For any other place, do take Gengis Khan's warning to heart. I have seen examples of cities with food shortages because the governor had sent a citizen to work on a mountain while there was grassland idling by.

The Governor is fairly useless until your empire is quite far along into the inudustrial/modern age. Using it would be about the worst thing you could do in the ancient age.

One of the best things you can do is save a building queue so you can easily recall it. I have a 'new city' queue and several more so I can be the governor myself!

Yep, same here.

Besides that, I never use governors, and I also very rarely use worker automation. Automated workers are almost as stupid as governors.

I would say it's the other way round. Automated workers are, without a shadow of doubt, completely and utterly ******** and useless. In fact, I think Firaxis should remove the automation button, the workers are that bad under it.

Governors, on the other hand, are pretty silly, but not as incompetent as workers. The main problem is that they use entertainers, but as long as you can increase your lux spending, governors are just about acceptable (though, of course, nowhere near as effecient as manual control).

Hmm, maybe that's true; I don't have much experience with either one. (I've been too afraid of their stupidity to want to see just how stupid they are.)

However, I think automated workers might be pretty useful for "non-full" automation (auto-clear pollution, auto-build road to, etc.). At least, that's what I've been told; I almost always manually use my workers anyway.

I've had this happen too. It was pretty  seeing one of my cities starving while a grassland was free. Also with civil disorder, I see it in a governor-controlled city and can easily fix it myself via shuffling. Idiotic governors! :crazyeye:

I put workers on "auto-clear pollution," "auto-road" and "auto-irrigate to nearest city." Other than that I never (that's NEVER) let a worker or governor do anything by themselves. Workers and governors need adult supervision and the AI is not an adult.

the only time i use governors is either early on in the game i have a city build a granary some spearman and then tell the governor to build only settlers and workers or late in the game like the industrial ages and modern times i have the governors keep my cities happy
