Hey Hey Hey!! The last SG I posted a little while back sounded to me just a little too exhausting for you guys so I decided to try another interesting one. Though the other is still open (AM5- We Rule the Seas! ). This one is just as it says 5 City Challenge "Always War"! Sounds like a challenge?? To make it just a little more harder, I decided to make it on either Monarch level or Emperor :D. Are you up for the challenge?? Here's the settings;

Monarch or Emperor (Depending on roster vote)
Standard Map
70% Water
Pangea
Moderate for both Temperature and Climate
4 Billion
Sedentary Barbs
Max. # of AI

CIV PICK NOT YET DECIDED, SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME!!

Variant Rules: ALWAYS WAR!

You must declare war on all opponents on the turn you make contact. You may acquire tech, contacts or map information prior to declaring war, but you must pay up front: no deals involving any kind of per-turn payments. You may never, ever make peace with any opponent. Until you control all of the earth or are wiped from the earth, there will always be war without end.

Variant Rules: 5 City Challenge

Ok this is were you must only have 5 cities for the whole entire game. Meaning no FP. Though with five cities you may build Wall Street and other wonders requiring 5 cities. At one point you may aquire one other city but at the end of the turn you must have only 5.

This variant is to difficult, and I suspect why no sign ups.

Monarchy AW is already a challenge.
5cc Conquest is already a challenge.

You are putting 2 difficult variants together here. I don't see how you can get enough production from 5 cities to fight off several civs at once.

I actually think that 5cc AW on monarch could be interesting. Only reason I didn't sign up was that I'm already in an AW game, and lack the time to play.

But sure, I'd like to try it sometime...it'd be tough!

I've been looking for a SG for some time, in spite of real life constantly pulling me back...

I may not be good enough for an always-war 5CC, but if you think about a similar SG again, I would like to try it.

I would have done it, for fun. I would NOT have expected to win.

Maybe we should do it on Regent, a very low level? I think no higher than Monarch.

You also may reconsider the standard size map and chose a small or even tiny one. On Regent this may be feasible.

The problem with standard-size/Monarch AI was already explained correctly by LKendter: not enough production with 5 cities. However, I would be interested if it was a small map and we get enough players with AW experience.

I'll be fine with a small map then. I have no AW experience, but I'm very interested in this game and I've followed some AW games. :)

For a Civ: the question is whether we go for a Civ with a defensive unit (Greece is the best I think) or for a Military Civ (any, really).

OK, all are in and we have our team! FULL!

Ok, alot of peeps for one game but its fine with me. Changed to Small Map on Regent.

About Civs. We need a good defensive more than offensive. What age the defense will help the most?? Ancient right? So I agree with the Greeks, though we will need the extra boost of fighting that the Militarialistic Trait gives us so we are going to have to go by traits rather than UU unless its realy bad. The List of Militarialistic civs are;

Civ- Trait/UU-- Rating out of 4 (IMO) Reason
Aztecs- Religous/ Jaguar Warrior-- ** They become absolete way too fast and in 5CC we need a realy good GA.

China- Industrious/ Rider-- ****I love them! They easily upgrade from Horsemen.

Germany- Scientific/ Panzer-- *** Way too late but perfect timing for GA, also to finish off the game if we get that far.

Japan- Religous/ Samurai-- **** Same as the Rider. Though they have better defence (isnt that what you guys wanted??)

Rome- Commercial/ Legion-- **** The extra defense, the Ancient age is long so we will have time to play them out.

Zulu- Expansionist/ Impi-- * Spearmen are for Fortifying, not running around. I think thier useless.

Viks- Expantionist/ Berserk-- ** I dont think we will have enough production to pull a 70 Shield Berserk from a city just comeing out of the Ancient Age, unless we upgrade from Archers.

Mongols- Expansionist/ Keshik-- * I personally dont like them, thier UU is ot that much better than a regular knight.

Celts- Religous/ Gallic Swordsmen-- *** The extra movement makes them just like the Iroquise but not Expansionist. I just dont like that they dont realy upggrade all the wy until the Idustrial Age.

Religous- Cheaper Temples wont help much, niether does the 1 Turn Anarchy.

Expansionist- Scouts and Goodie Huts help a little more but only for Ancient, though exploring with warriors in AW is better.

Scientific- This would help the most. Cheaper Libraries, no, but the free tech will realy giv us a boost when entering a new age.

Industrious- Faster workers help all the time, but less in 5CC, I like them though.

Commercial- Not realy, (IMO), a couple gold extra for 5 cities dont help that much.

Feel free to critisize my opinions, thats why they are there ;).

I'm thinking either China, Germany, or Rome.

My vote goes for Rome. The Commerical trait isn't that great in a 5CC, but that Legion would be PERFECT for an AW. 3 attack and 3 defense, it can really switch between defender and attacker in a second. Once we get Iron Working, we can churn them out as really the only unit we build in the Ancient Age - except for Horsemen.

One question about the 5CC aspect: are we allowed to capture and then keep but subsequently disband a city? We'll have 6 cities for a minute. We can get gold that way...

From a lurker:
I'm biased towards Greece (Yiati? Eimai ellenoamerikanikos ;)), but for once the Roman Legions will be useful. However, if you want raw, offensive power, may I recommend X-Man? The Civ3 team loves Scientific/Industrious apparently. They gave them the two best UUs in the game: Sipahi and Immortals. Immortals are even viable until Knights. But don't be Osman. It will turn into BZ2 ;).
