Game save.

Previous turn chat thread.

Next game play instruction thread.

Please note that the use of turn chats has been suspended. The game will be played off-line using any legal instructions that are posted here. Instructions must be posted by 9 am (EDT)Wednesday, July 9 (which I think is 1300 GMT). Instructions posted after that time cannot be considered valid as game play will have begun. I will keep game notes as required by our constitution and will post those when the saves are posted.

EDIT: I think I have the GMT times correct now. Thanks Rik Meleet!

The Kingdom of Fanatica was proclaimed in the year 320 AD. :king: There ws rejoicing throughout the kingdom as donsig led our glorious Legions through Egypt in search of the evil Aztecs who once dared settle on our side of the Great Bay. Our Legions in Egypt first made their way to Pi-Rameses where the nearby iron resource was pillaged. These Legions then followed the hills in an advance towards Tzintzuntzen. Meanwhile our :egypt: *allies* made peace with Montezuma! Our legions forged ahead and on the plains before Tzintzuntzen a fierce battle was fought and won by Trajan. This victory brought Montezuma to the peace table and King donsig :king: made peace with the Aztecs in return for the cities of Tula and Teayo. Trajan was sent on a triumphant journey back to Fanatica and has reached the outskirts of the Egyptian town of Byblos, only a short distance from Fanatica's borders.

There has been no recent activity in our other war against America. American emissaries have contacted the King offering peace (and the city of Buffalo) but the King refused peace so as not to break the alliances we have with Egypt and Greece. there are still 8 turns remaining in our alliances against America. Abe is still willing to give us peace and will offer our choice of Buffalo, San Francisco or Houston. Houston is on the mountainous Russian continent.

Greek and Egyptian settlers tried penetrating our lands to settle but our forces were able to block them. Our lands are still vulnerable to sea bourne squatters though. An escorted band of Persian settlers recently landed in Esquiline province. We have placed a city in the area which has encouraged the Persians to move on. They seems to be heading for the far west of Esquiline province. This may also be the destination of a Babylonian galley seen recently near the spot where the Persians landed.

In all four cities were founded: Iron Hills west of Lake Asphinxia; Gingerbread City southwest of Bootia on the peninsula; Go home Xerxes and Nodoldan's City in Esquiline province. With our two new Aztec cites we now have a total of 27 cities! We also have two settlers, one in Esquiline and one in Capitoline province. There is still work to be done since the Peninsula has alot of room left for cities and neither Esquiline nor Aventine Province is completely settled yet

We have lost our scientific edge. We were the first to enter the middle ages and we with held currency from all of our rivals. Unfortunately, some countries are more adept at research than we are and have an advantage. The Persians and Greeks both entered the middle ages and each gained a free tech. They gained differenttechs and swapped and now they both have monotheism and engineering. More trading has taken place among our rivals and now Egypt and the Aztecs also have monotheism. We have been researching that tech at a minimal rate and are still 31 turns away from learning it. It is available for purchase. :)

We have completed our first harbor but we can only trade with our Egyptian and Greek allies who are on our continent. :(

We are currently in fourth place on the histograph being exactly 100 points behind the front running Babylonians. Though there are other civs we still have not yet met. There is an orange border visible on our maps north of Persia...

NOTICE: Please reserve this thread for instruction posts by Department Leaders. This is not a discussion thread.

Mr. President. Due to recent events, especially the announcement that closed-door chats will take place as well as the PI, I have decided to issue the following orders for Aventine Province. All cities will be switched to the production of Wealth, and shall remain producing Wealth until I order differently. This production shall not be changed, even if we are at war. Secondly, all workers shall finish their current tasks and move to the nearest city, where they shall sentry until I order diffferently. I believe that this action will be for the benefit of the entire Demogame. I also ask that all department heads interested in stalling this game for purposes of creating a period of R&R for restructuring the game take actions similar to those that I have taken here. Thank you.

EDIT: Due to popular citizen disapproval with the above instructions, I shall be changing them in about, oh, the next thirty minutes.

Aventine Build Queues:

New Jedina: Forbidden Palace, via Trajan; Spearman, Temple, Library
Aureus: Library, Granary, Marketplace
(The following queues are the same as they were last turnchat)
Inadatto: Library, Settler, Harbor
Regia Doughnutia: Temple, Granary, Settler
Lake Asphinxia: Temple, Library, Barracks
Elephantine: Temple, Library, Barracks
Memphis: Temple, Library, Granary

Aventine Improvements:

1) Finish current tasks.
2) Irrigate to the cow SW of New Jedina.
3) Road the cow SE of Aureus, then irrigate down to it.

Side note: Please rename Noldodan's City to Aqualondë. You make the ë by pressing and holding alt, then pressing 1, 3 and 7 on your number pad in succession.

OK, I have been convinced to go along with these closed door chats, thanks to some trustworthy members who assure me it worked in DGI. Plus it works in MSDG.

First of all, worker instructions. Here is the one of vital importance.

Originally posted by Cyc:The Grassland tile S, SW of Gorina is currently being used by Tyvek, but also falls within the city borders of Gorina. Tyvek will be producing a Settler in two turns. The Settler will be ready next turn, but the city will not be ready for two turns because of food supply. If we were to switch Tyvek's tile usage from the Grassland I've mentioned above to the bonus grassland East of Tyvek, the situation would remain the same for Tyvek.

The difference would be that if we let Gorina use that Grassland tile S, SW of town, then Gorina would grow in 9 turns. This means we would be able to used a mined hill that much quicker (by four turns), plus our growth to size 9 would be accelerated also. That growth would also bring in another mined hill.

The requested Worker action is to have the Iron Hill mined. I thought this had been mined before, but I guess I was mistaken. I do know I have requested the action before in previous administrations.

Other worker instructions:
I will try something general this time. Will general instructions work?
after the above (in order of preference):
A)mine any roaded hills that cities are working on where they have more than 40 sheilds left on the improvements they are doing
B)irrigate any plains that our towns are working on, then road them
C)mine any bonus grasslands that cities are working on, then road
D)irrigate any normal grasslands that our cities are working on, then road

City Queues
Xak Tsaroth: Temple, Worker, Worker

Gorina: Palace Prebuild
Remember to mine the iron!

Tyvek: Settler, Library

Nafstac: Harbor, Worker'

Nur Gisnod: Same as last T/C.

Penguinadua: Same as last T/C.

Noshuret: Spearman, Spearman, Worker, Worker

Ingolemondor: Worker, Worker

Neapolis: Temple, Spearman, Worker, Harbor.

Have fun! I wish I were there!

I'm back after my announced absense, and the landscape is a little changed since my last opportunity at internet access. :(

It seems the definition of "legal instructions" has morphed a bit since the beginning of this term. Since the President feels it is OK to continue in the absense of instructions from other leaders, it will be necessary to proceed for this turn set as though it is also OK for a leader to proceed without instructions from the citizens. This would not normally be my preferred way of continuing, but it is now necessary to get the demogame under control and something a little closer to a democracy and further away from a SG variant where it takes a month before changing players.

Instructions will be added here after I've had some time to study the forums to discern the WOTP as best as possible, and the current game conditions.

Edit: added instructions:

According to the results of this poll set production in the city chosen by the poll to Forbidden Palace, move the GL Tragan and escort there, and hurry FP production. Changing production may be delayed until the GL arrives, if something will be produced before the GL arrival, to maximize the benefit and minimize waste of normal shields. If the chosen town does not currently have a garrison, strongly consider temporarily moving a defender there, if the defender can arrive before Tragan's escort.

Build queue override for Skunkworks. Enough shields for the settler will be available long before the town grows to size 3 (15 turns for growth, 12 for production even without extra shields from the 2nd laborer). Change production to a Spear, and queue up a Settler behind it. The governor for this province may override this override by specifying something other than a spear for Skunkworks to produce before its settler.

2nd edit
Old instructions

Move Settler/Spear W of Inadatto to coastal non-bonus grass 3S of New Jedina and found a town there. This site is vulnerable to AI settlement, and will be high production if the FP is placed in New Jedina as the poll seems to indicate.
On second thought, let's use the SE map (map 2) from this thread and place the settler currently W of Inadatto near site A from the map, but where the legion is standing now (NE of the horses). This alternative site allows a tighter build than the map would allow, and the general placement had support of several citizens.

end of 2nd edit

Increase science to 50%, +4gpt, Monotheism in 17. This needs to be done immediately, as every turn we proceed at minimum research is one that cannot be recovered by increasing the slider later. The drop in corruption once the FP is built will offset the temporary reduction in income. Analysis of trades to acquire Monotheism show that the minimum price is 32gpt + all our gold, which means it is currently cheaper to research it ourselves.

Settler on the S coast between Go Home Xerxes and Nafstac can settle in place. That point must be covered in order to keep it from being taken via galley, and the settler will lose a race to anywhere else vs. the new settler which Tyvek will produce next turn.

The Ministry of Trade

Unfortunately, my hopes that new trading possibilities would open due to our new harbor have been dashed. The Chinese, despite multiple harbors on their island, are seperated by two sea tiles.

Greece and Egypt are our only trading partners, but they are unwilling to offer anything acceptable for trade. Please, during the session, keep an eye on all trading possibilities.

1) End Alliances against America, when they expire.

2) After Alliances against America are scraped, sign a treaty with America (it's build time, baby  ). Try to take Buffalo in the deal. See if you can grab some gold as well. If Lincoln will only give the treaty, then please sign it.

3) End the ROPS with Greece and Egypt, when they expire.

Edit: Note: Possible change before game play

The Domestic Dept. has set the Sci Rate at 50%. This is satisfactory for now, but hopefully we can raise it once our economy takes off after the FP is hurried.

Please continue researching Monotheism as we cannot afford to buy it at this time. After Monotheism, we should continue along our path to Education by researching Theology.

Gorina is currently doing a pre-build for the Sistene Chapel, but there is no real need to switch the Palace pre-build to the Sistene Chapel immediately after completing research of Monotheism (I realize we won't complete research this play session, I just thought I would mention it here).

There is a new Science poll up that will indicate our next goal after Education on Friday.

This instruction has caused controversy about the role of Domestic vs. Governors. The queue change is the right thing to do, and I plan to press for Domestic's right to balance queues, but in this case I miscalculated the amount of time remaining before play (thought it was Tuesday night...) and would prefer to have the Governor confirm it anyway. I will request that Governor Rik address this issue in the Esquiline instruction post.

Buildqueues:

Nar Shaddaa: temple , granary
Skunkworks: Spearman, temple
Palatine: Spearman, settler
Klixus-Major: Settler (cash-rush), spearman, barracks
Noldodan's City: Spearman, courthouse (in case FP will not be build close)
Noldodan's City: Spearman, library (in case FP will be build close)
Go Home Xerxes: Spearman, library

Requests:
* Rename Noldodan's City and Go Home Xerxes according the wish of the people who are in line to name cities.
* Try to discourage evey other Civ to build in Western-Esquiline by taking as much fertile lands as possible. Take the cities "C" and "E" first. See Fionn's map.

DG3_map1.jpg

Try blocking the Persian settler/spear currently in Esquiline Valley from moving to the West by blocking around Lake Noviomagus. As the AI will not settle aggressively this will prevent them from settling anywhere close.

Continue to use the workers to assist the settlers by building roads to the designated city-sites. Whenthey are finished, improve tiles around Noldodan's city, to allow growth, production and science. It could be a could powerhouse soon.

Thank you RM.

Domestic over-ride of Skunkworks is moot since governor changed the queue.
Well, maybe not, since DL says settler after spear and gov says temple after spear. :(
I will set Skunkworks queue to spear/temple and will let the DL and Gov fight it out later.
Note: Followed the DL over-ride due to Civanator's recent JR.
Of course the DL's instruction to let the gov over-ride the over-ride doesnt apply.
