On mars already, waiting!
I'm working on some terrian and city graphics for a fantasy mod, its nowhere near finished yet but for any one creating thier own scenario these may be usefull.

You'll have to do a bit of work, just cut them out and paste them in to one of the city graphics PCX. they include;

Castle city/walled
Castle city small
Castle city medium
& Castle city metropolis

And Norse/hillfort walled
hillfort small
hillfort medium
& hillfort metropolis.

The castle city could be used for Gondor in a lord of the rings scenario and the hillfort could be used for Rohan.
I'm gonna do some others too and post them here, any requests for fantasty cities?

Heres the graphics;

Looks...excellent!

EDIT: I was so overwhelmed by the quality that I actually forgot!

EDIT 2: No, in fact, I guess this is a new file...:cool:

Looking good. :thumbsup:
The castle one seems to be in a wierd angle, compared to the original isometric view, or am I just wierd in my eyes today? :)
How have you done them? Are they based on photos, or?

You got zulu really flummoxed there. :lol:

Yeah, the castle does look strange, but its made from a 3d model, I may make a second version from a different angle, I think its just the strange shape of the rock and the hase with which I made the model (some of the walls are not as well constructed as they should be :) ).

I didn't want to put them in to a City graphic file because I didn't know what people would use them for, & to save time and space.

Right now I'm working on making a Flying citadel unit out of the castle city...

These look really cool SM:goodjob:, but no offence they dont really fit with the normals graphics. So I wondered, is there any change you will make similar graphics for all the normal civs? Yes I know they are meant to be for a fantasy scenario or mod, but they look much better than normal graphics. I would love to have them in the game:)

OK, making city graphics is a problem, the thing about the above cities that makes them look so different to the civ III cities is that because I wanted to place them on a geographical feature I had to make the actual buildings quite small.

In the civ III city graphics there are very few buildings but they are quite large, It looks OK I guess but I just prefer city icons (it is representing a whole city after all) to look quite busy.

Also these cities are rndered at the same angle as the Civ III units, but I'm still not sure if thats what the civ III cities and terrain are rendered at. I asked some one from firaxis once but they didnt understand my question.

Any how, I'll try experimenting with different layouts and angles.
At the moment I'm working on arabesk castle city. using the above model but from a different angle.

I think that if I do all the fantasy variations, then it wont matter that they don't look like the original Civ III cities because you won't need to use any of the originals. :)

The fact is that the above buildings only actualy include about five unique structures each. For the hill fort I made a building, then modded it in to a courtyard/stables type building and a long house. I also made a watch tower. Using these few objects I made the metropolis and then removed ojects a little at a time to make the smaller cities.

For the castles I just made a big bit of mountain and a few sections of wall and towers. Then it was just a matter of duplicating the wall prtions and putting them in place, mass production style. I generaly have to do it this way cos Ive got a slow computer and doing anythng takes for ever (one of the reasons I seldom get around to finishing any units) :(

Any way, These are gonna look good enough for my own scenario, and if any one else wants to use them, just as a break from the civ III standard cities, then feel free.

I'm now going to post a couple of variants on a single city. These cities would be good for your "evil Humans" in a fantasy scenario.

The first is a "mordor" or "lair of the necromancer" type graphic;

Its just the Castle city from the first post, from a slightly different angle and deconstructed differently.

Second is a Jungle city, good for any lizardman or jungle men, or king kong's buddies to hang out and have a beer or two;

And the last one for the moment, a desert mountain fortress, could be used for the southrons in lord of the rings (though you may want a version with the blue replaced with red, I chose blue and gold to give it an ancient egypt feel).

Once again all you need to do is cut and paste them in to the apropriate city graphics PCX's Ill do it myself once Ive finished all the variants so I can place a single zip in the first post, instead of dozens of little files scatered through the thread;

I also plan to make some terrain buildings such as a mine, fortress colony, wizards tower (radar station) etc... so when all the graphic modifications are taken together as a whole it should look quite good.

I'm also considering a "flying citadel" unit. though it depends on if I can get it right, and can decide how best to use it. Should it be an actual flying unit, or a land unit? should it land to attack (this would make the amimations much easier) or remain flying?

Anyway, some cities I'm thinking about doing;

A crystal city, (GIDustin wants one, and I can think of one or two uses for it)
A forest city,
A haunted wood city,
A desert necropolis city,
A dwarf mountain city,
An ork & goblin mountain city,
and maybe an underwater city, though theres not many units for such a bizare civ yet.

As we've grown used to, incredible work smoking mirror,...

Is it actually possible though to have individual city sets for each
civilization? If so, how?
