This is the updated city build thread as of 510AD.

This first map is of the far west end of the continent. Sites A, B, and C can all be built if we're willing to use tight spacing there. I think this is a good idea because the FP and Palace are both far away, so these will be high corruption cities anyway. There will be a practical limit to their productive size until we reach Democracy. The tile marked BLOCK POINT 1 is critical to hold with a unit, because it is not covered until the 2nd border expansion, and does not make a good city site because it overlaps on all land tiles.

Edit: as of 610AD, sites A and C have been built.

This map shows priority city sites for the middle of our continental "lobe". Sites A and B are big enough for a rival civ to try to settle there. Site C is low priority and will have considerable overlap. There is little chance another civ will settle where there is only a 2 tile gap, but placing a town here will eliminate that chance.

The yellow circles marked block are only important if we get worried about someone trying to land from a galley. They provide an access point but are not a danger for settlement.

As of 610AD, site A has been squatted by the Persians.

And here is the map of the NE quadrant. The labels didn't turn out as well on this one, not enough monochrome border... ;)

All 4 of these sites will support pop 8 at least before conflicts get too extreme. If we want bigger growth later one or more can always be abandoned to make room...

Here is the map for the SE. We have room here for 8 cities on a tight spacing grid. Again, if a metropolis is needed later, one or more can be abandoned. The key here is to complete the land grab and deny the other civs room to grow.

What about the area northwest of Memphis? There is a river up there near the mountains and I think our next city should go there.

Is the domestic department taking any steps to encourage our governors to raise settlers to build all these cities?

Our illustrious President is correct, there is room for a town NW of Memphis which would have every tile on a river. X marks the spot in this map.

Hoping for some opinions on priority. I think the far W and the one in this map are high priority.

Edit: As of 610AD, this site has been built.

I agree. The far west is the most likely place the AI will place cities on our land. That should be priority.

1) I support tight builds. In fact, in all of my games, I have tight builds. So, obviously, if I were domsetic advisor, I would do tight builds.

2) In middle map 2, I support that we build cities in all of those sites, as well as one 2 tiles directly south of Skunkworks.

Sounds like no dissent on number of cities or placement, or at least none written in forum posts. Any comments on what order to build them in? Any need to make settlers travel long distances, or should each province be responsible for providing settlers for its area?

Also, this is military, but do we keep the line of legions until the SE lands are completely covered?

We should have two basic priorities:
-Settling the NW (Map three): This is where our FP sits. We would do well to exploit it's advantages.
-Securing the coast: Emphasis on coastal cities, so that we can block new settlers quickly.

We should Settle more on the coasts so that no AI Civs would dare set foot in our borders with there Settlers.

I think we should start in the West, and settle in the East later. This way we can make sure that no AIs will land and settle behind us. Meanwhile, Aventine can begin production of settlers for use in the East, as it would take far too long to produce them for use in the West.
