I really wanted to join some SGs, but it seems that everyone is playing on higher levels than I. A Monarch-level SG was started recently, but sadly I was a little too late to join it.

So.....I've decided to try to start my own succession game since joining someone else's seems unlikely right now. I hope there are some people here interested in doing a Monarch-level game.

Anyway, here's the situation:

PTW 1.21
Monarch Difficulty.
England (Commercial, Expansionist).
Normal Climate, Temperate, 5 Billion age.
Sedentary Barbarians.
Large map, Continents, 60% Ocean.
All Victory Conditions enabled.
Culturally-Linked Start Location on.
Culture-Flipping on.
All other options turned off.

Here's how the start location looks:

Not too bad with a Game and Wheat, and plenty of rivers.

I chose England because it best fits the idea I have for this game. I intend for this to be a mostly peaceful game where we use our Commercial trait to gain ludicrous amounts of money. Expansionist trait will help get techs and even more money from Goody Huts. Building Commercial Wonders (Colossus, Adam Smith's, etc.) is a priority. Diplomatic Victory is desired, though the others are certainly possible.

So, anyone interested?

I'm already playing one as England, but I'd like to join, nonetheless. I definitely have Monarch level under control, but I'm still kind of nervous about moving up, so I would like to play a few more on that level. :p If the game fills up, though, I'll give up my spot, seeing as I am playing that SG with Amirsan with England.

I'm not signing up (I have way too much Civ going on), but I couldn't resist from giving my thoughts. :D

You got a wonderful start ! You don't have any lux in your immediate environment, and you can't know yet about strat sources. But as for food/shields/gold, this is fabulous ! I think I would settle right on the starting tile. It's a hill (good defence), then you know what tiles you will mostly use before getting to size 7. :D Try to get +5 food as soon as possible, using those 2 food bonuses, to make your capital a settler factory. All best tiles lie along a river, a game and a wheat plus those 4 juicy bonus grasslands are almost too much ! :D You may want to scout to the east first, but I highly recommend settling now.

Good luck and enjoy your game ! :)

You're absolutely right, kryszcztov. I played ahead a couple of turns just to make sure that the terrain would be okay (didn't want to find out I was surrounded by desert or something). The Game and Bonus Grasslands worked out pretty well until my borders expanded, then the Wheat came into play. Things just started going really well from there. This is probably one of the better start positions I've ever had. I had to stop myself from going on; I didn't want to spoil too much of the game's progress for myself. I'd better go last in the turn order since I know too much all ready.

Thanks for joining, Yaype. I'm sure there'll be room for you in this game.

I join. I'm doing quite well at Monarch but I can't win in Emperor so some more practice could help:goodjob:

If you have any spots available I would like to join. That is one incredible starting position and it would be nice to give England a try (haven't played them yet). I am a solid regent player trying to make the transition to monarch. Things are going well in the "Shaking the Lurker Tree" SG game and I fancy the challenge of playing a civ most people tend to avoid.

Welcome aboard Ville and Brewster!

You haven't played England before? I'm not surprised since a lot people don't like them or their UU. But I think they're a great civ. Of course I'm probably just partial to the Commercial trait. The Man-'O-War still sucks, though.

Okay, just another person or two and then I'll consider this game full.

If you need another player then I am more than happy to offer my assistance.

English myself and think they get too much stick on these forums, some people do like to rest on their UU's too much I think :D

Expansionist and Commercial makes a lovely combination.

Early tech through exploring scouts, lower corruption and a one wonder Golden Age (which is the Colossus, did you want an early GA?)

Later game the comercial kicks in and extra gold in Metropolis as well as lower corruption should make the English a builders dream...

Melifluous

PS. I reckon I am about an Emperor player, have beaten Deity once or twice... Can I join?

BTW I'm not in CFC in 24.7 - 3.8 because I'm in confirmation camp (why, oh why:cry:  ) So I can play 1 round and then I'm out for a week and then back

Welcome Melifluous. Good to have you.
I don't mind if you're gone for a week, Ville.

Melifluous, I don't think that the Colossus will trigger our GA, but the Lighthouse most definitely will. This is a bad thing since we'd probably still be in Despotism. It presents a dilemma because I do want to build this wonder, but if I put off building it until Republic or Monarchy then someone else will almost surely snatch it up. I say we just go ahead and build it anyway. I'd rather get a crappy GA than miss out on a great Wonder like this one.

Unless someone else wants to join within the next couple of hours, I'm going to consider this SG filled.

I'd better set up a roster, too. Anyone want to go first? Next to last?

I'd like to play.

I have lots of civ going on like amirsan and kry, but my philosophy is you can never have too much civ :D

Welcome aboard, bacon king! You're right, there's no such thing as too much civ. In fact, there's never enough!

Okay, that's enough people. No more may join now.

How many is that, btw? And remember, I'm willing to give up my spot for somebody else who wants to play, seeing as I am already playing a game as the English. If somebody does want the spot, I will gladly start another one. :goodjob:

six is enough.

how many turns will we take?
I suggest 20, and 10 once turns take too long.

I'd like to go first.

Unless you would prefer to, then I'll go second.

Me up third?

Just like to let people know I will be in Amsterdam from 27th July to about the 2nd-3rd August, see how it goes ;)

Might be meeting some people too ...

Melifluous

Yes, I was think 20 then 10. I'm going last since I already know a little bit about the map.

Roster:
bacon king, you can go first.
Ville goes second so he can get in a turn before he leaves.
Melifluous third.
Yaype fourth.
Brewster fifth.
Me(Hooray) sixth/last.

Sound good?

I suppose I should post the save. I'll have that up soon.
