I don't believe in god, but I do a lot of things because of trudition. I had a Bar Mitzva, I celebrate the holydays, things like that. So I voted for judeism. :D

"Hey, Jude
don't make it bad..."

I love that song

Yeah, you don't sound like a Atheist. A Atheist don't selebrate something that they don't belive in.

It's kinda hard to define a jude. All Hebrews are judes, and since I'm a Hebrew I guess I'm a jude. Besides, in other countries don't people who don't believe in god celebrate christmas?

I voted 'Other'. My family is from the Caribbean Islands (Cuba and Jamaica), and though I was raised Catholic, many of my family, including myself, pay homage to the Dieties and Powers of Santeria and Vodun. Some of my family are Rastafarians as well. Btw, I'm curious--since religion(sp?) can be extremely devisive, I'm curious to know why you are curious about what beliefs Civfanatics hold. I respect anyone's beliefs, or lack thereof, but I imagine that I'll be slammed for admitting my beliefs.

Contrary to popular opinion and Hollywood, adherants of Santeria and Vodun are regular, law-abiding folks. We do NOT worship Satan, who is a Christian diety, anyway. Many of us were brought up Catholic, and in the case of Santeria, especially, were able to perfectly wed our beliefs with this religion. Also, you'd be surprised that it isn't only folks of African or Hispanic descent who claim Santeria and Vodun as their faith. Many folks of European descent also claim these as their faith, especially here in the US.

You included Jainism but left out Buddhism?

I voted other--I believe all religions have something to teach us. But I generally tend toward a Buddhist outlook, and I believe in karma (what goes around comes around)....

"Karma" is a fundemental of EVERY religion. Wicca, Satanism, Christianity, they ALL have a "karma" system... But hell, you don't need a religion to know what goes around comes around. Religion serves absolutely no purpose for me. Well okay, it did have a hand in my country being attacked on September 11th. God Bless Religion!!! :goodjob:

Well I'm a jew who just had lunch yesterday during Yom Kippur. (First time I've done that since Bar Mitzvah).

So, I guess by tradition Jewish, but I'm really an aetheist in disguise who just hasn't completely departed with the old ways.

It's tradition... When I was 13 all the kids in my class had a Bar Mitzva but none of us was religious... I had a Bar Mitzva and I always eat on Yom Kipur. I guess tradition is fine untill it demands something... But I don't care. I'm happy eating apples and honey in rosh hashana and Haman's ears in purim...

Not true, Im an atheist but celbrate christmas and easter, and see nothing hypocritical in this (please dont ask me to explain why cos I'm very lazy and mad and writing big long posts turns my brain to jelly and really hurts my fingers)

Purim, the happiest day in the jewish calender, is celebrating the defeat of Haman, who was the king of Persia's right hand and wanted to kill or at least kick out all jews in Persia. Haman's ears are a sweet traditioanly eaten during purim

If this is up twice, it's the "server busy" thing

I was baptized Irish Roman Catholic, so I was doomed to start.

However now Im in remision, I take it one day at a time. :D

I'll have to go to WKRP town for a baby-bar-b-q one of these days...

I'm an atheist, but I voted for Judaism of course. :)

It depends on where you draw the line between religion and tradition. I dont celebrate the new Jewish year because god told me so, and I dont fast(correct word?) on Yom Kippur because of it.

Just a little side note (not being critical or anything), Satan really isn't a deity. He's a fallen angel.
