When we complete our research of Astronomy, we will be looking at new options for future research. Because we have also picked up a few Techs via trade with other nations, our lower Tech branches have been started. Our new options are:

Printing Press
Banking
Music Theory
Navigation
Chivalry
Invention

Please choose only one option as this is not a multiple choice poll.

This poll will remain open for 4 days, unless the DP needs to move past our current option, then the DP may use the Tech with the most votes at that time.

Discussion may be found here and here.

Economics..... though that's 4 techs down the road so.... banking.....

Must say I debated about Chivalry and Invention, though I figured we could probobly trade for them with the higher techs we're gaining now.

Voted for Baking. I to also debated about going for Chivalry in my head, but we can always get it at a lower price :).

PSC Board Review

This Poll gets an EXCELLENT Rating :).
Good job Cyc :D.

If we get Copernicus' then we should consider also aiming for Newtons (though each can stand on its own). Newtons is way far out there, so let's look at it another way.

If we go Invention->Gunpowder, we get Leo's to switch to if someone beats us to Copernicus' (not much value, but at least shields wouldn't be wasted) and we'll find out where the saltpeter is, which will drive a decision on trade vs war if we don't have it, and we'll be good if we do.

If we go Banking->Economics, we can get a jump on Smith's, which cuts our maintenance costs dramatically. Low maintenance lets us get more beakers and a faster tech rate, which is needed later for winning the space race. Economics is a non-required tech so don't know its value in trade, and if we don't get to Smith's first then it is a waste of time.

We could go Banking->Printing Press->Democracy which gets us to the bonuses from government type, but this hits two non-required techs. Instead we could focus on strictly required techs and buy the non-required ones from our rivals, but it's lucrative only if we're the first ones there.

Navigation is interesting only if you want Magellan's. Music Theory + Bach's is good for unhappieness, but at the price of a non-required tech.

I say let's do Banking to leave all the best options open without waste, and see how we do with Copernicus' and with trade opportunities.

Well said, DaveShack. It does appear that Banking is the popular choice here, so looking at your remarks about Banking/ Economics, as compared to Banking/Printing Press/Democracy, although you make an excellent point, I would have to go with the Democracy angle. We did very well on the Anarchy period from Despotism to Monarchy (3 turns?), so we'll probably do well with the Demcracy switch (fingers crossed).

If we were going for a Tech to acquire a back-up Wonder, Gunpowder as compared to Music Theory, I would choose Music Theory hands down.

Newton's can wait and Magellan's? What's that? J/K

But that was a good post. Sorry for all the incoherent babbling, I just finished 5 days in Vegas.

Please be sure to deposit 10% of your winnings in the treasury, DG3 is like a religion and we need our tithe.

Printing Press or banking, whichever seems most likely to get us to Democracy fastest.

what if he LOST money in Vegas..........

then he'd be making a negative deposit in the treasury.... ie. 10% of his loses would be taken from the DG3 Treasury.....

BTW I think Economics is VERY valuable.... at least BEFORE Smith's is built.

Please note that we acquired chivalry and invention during the 710 - 810 AD game play session.

So I guess we build Longbowmen and Knights now ;).

Because of recent developments in the Science field, this poll will be closed early and the leading vote-getter (Banking) will be put in queue for our Tech Path. Please vote in the Science Poll -
