Checking in. Thanks for having me on board!

Civ: No real preferences, although I would like to be Scientific and/or Industrious

Win condition: Well, looking over Sirian's list of mods, to fully test them out we should go for a Space Race win. On a Huge map this is asking for a very long game, I realize, but who's in a hurry, right?

What are the real odds when Barbs=Random of drawing "Raging"? That would be :crazyeye:

Checking in now. I'm leaning towards asking for a commercial civ, both for the ocean front property and the need to buy techs throught the industrial age. Just to be completely opposite of rubberjello, I'm more partial to the religous civs.

Cool
thanks for checking in guys..now let's see if we can get more ppl interested...

If nobody else signs on in the next couple of days, I can join in, play a second game here. Don't want to, erm, leave "my", uh (followers?) test subjects, ah, hanging. :)

I'd like to join. With lk50 finished now, I can play one more SG -and the changes sound well thought out. Industrious and scientific are my favourite traits for deity, but I'd prefer not to combine them as I already played persia/ottomans too often and they seem to be a bit overpowered with their strong uus

All right. The weekend passed and no one else showed interest. So I will play here with you guys. That means a few minor changes to the "carbon copy of ST1" plan, though.

Rubberjello would like to be scientific and/or industrious. I do not want industrious (the strongest trait) so we will go with scientific. I would like to change from pelago to continents, to have a different sort of involvement. Continents will mean lots of land to explore, and lots of huts. I would like to play expansionist and go with a hut-popping opening. This decides our civ: Russia!

I have never played Russia on anything larger than a small map, so it is about time Katherine the Great gets her due!

I don't want random climate. Cold climates on huge maps mean HUGE, VAST, UNENDING stretches of tundra near the poles, usually accompanied by numerous dud civs stuck with start points deep in the frozen wasteland. So we will play a hot map.

Difficulty: Deity
Civ: Russia
Map Size: Huge
Opponents: Fifteen (BTW, looks like I have only 14 players in ST1? Oops. Howdat hap'n?).
Land: Continents 40%
Climate: Hot
Barbarians: Restless (We want huts!)
Victory: Any!

Yep. Going to play with it all. Cultural will be a major threat, but that will offer counterpoint to ST1's huge game. Whether we go for space or not will depend on the AI's. We might do a little midgame "territorial acquisition", if you know what I mean. :groucho: Especially if someone Chooses Unwisely (TM).

I will play thirty turns to start. The initial build order will be scout-scout-warrior-scout, giving us SIX units and putting us into the red. With a total of four scouts getting out there ASAP, I hope to pop as many as thirteen huts and to pull at least one free settler or city, which will then support our extra units. I also hope to make contacts early and perhaps get in on the early trading.

Here goes.

- Sirian

4000BC: We start on a river amidst plains. There are a couple hills at two tiles range, and two wheat just across the river. I move the scout two east onto a hill. One flood plain is spotted and some nonbonus grass. This is a "so-so" looking start. I like it. :) I move the worker across to one of the wheat, then found Moscow and begin max research on Ceremonial Burial. Scout queued up.

Early: Irrigate the wheat, road the wheat. Our scout goes south after heading east, and immediately finds the coast! Arrgh. I head him west along the coast, so our first scout ends up going west, then north along the west coast. Our first two huts yield squat. Second scout trained and heads north, then turns east. Third scout trained, lux tax added. Third scout heads northwest, parallel with far west scout.

Middle: Warrior trained. We are no longer completely defenseless. Our next four huts are all empty! That is SIX huts, nothing to show for it yet. Finally, our seventh hut pops a conscript warrior. The ninth hut pops 25g. Our fourth scout heads southeast, along the coast in the other direction. Granary started. Our second scout, in the far east, popped the conscript, which heads north and makes contact with the Vikings. Our even numbered scouts are now heading south and east. The very first scout is still following the coast, now through thick forests and jungles the whole way. Our third scout turned east and is scouting out the interior.

Late: Our second scout, having found an east coast, is now following it south and east while scout four is in the same general area following the west coast southward. We meet the Germans. Our fourth scout pops a tech out of our twelfth hut on turn 24!

The Vikings had been up on us by Alphabet, Ceremonial and WC. Soon they will be up only by Alphabet. When Ceremonial comes in, we reach tech parity with the Germans.

Our granary completes in Moscow and I start a settler. I start us on min sci on iron working, since it looks like we will need cash and gpt to get in on the tech trading.

2550BC: our conscript meets Indian troops. They are up Alphabet and Masonry! Our first settler is due soon. There are no AI's immediately near us. In thirty turns, I have managed to scout what looks like thousands of tiles. :)

Eeeek! I'm cursed with Russia lately. (Just completed Hot6 and SP1 Team2 with them.) Ah well. No biggie. I sure hope we don't start in the middle of the desert!

*Edit* Forget the darn desert...let's do something about our cursed luck in Hut-popping! SHeesh!

I popped 13 huts. We got 10 empty, 1 cash, 1 warrior, 1 tech.

No sign yet of barbarians, but we could be in trouble soonish.

Our land is somewhat poor.

We sit astride a sizable tract of desert, with lots of plains and few grass.

Pink dot should be the first site we grab.
That pulls two BG tiles and will have two food bonuses after temple.
It will also be shielded from barbs and give us an early coastal site, which COULD nab the Colossus.
Or maybe not. :)

Hollow orange dot would be next. Grabs a fur, also on the coast, on the river.
Has some early forests for chopping to speed building.

Yellow dot third and white dot fourth? Looking at where the good tiles are.

Light Blue dots are near luxuries.
Red dots are in low food areas.
Green dots are in fertile areas.

Red dot north of Moscow is a crap location limited to size 3, but...
It might be worth grabbing as a barb magnet if we have problems.
We do not want to leave Moscow exposed to barb invasion!

I did not get to found a second city, but...
I did get to explore! And pop over a dozen huts.
Poorish luck on the huts, but it was worth a gamble, and...
Interesting to try on a huge map.

The explorations and contacts will help our tech situation, so that too is worthwhile.

ST3 - 2550BC

Skyfish can go next or defer, as he chooses.
One way he gets to go after me, the other he doesn't have to go after me. ;)

Ten turns per player. LOOK AT ALL THAT LAND!
Should be fun. :D

Hey what happened to the game while I was asleep ? ;)

It's a lazy man's dream to go after you Sirian so I'll gladly keep that roster order

Aggie did we really meet in RL   ...or was it all a dream ?

ps : I got it :D

Nothing changed :)
2510bc : Settler due in 2 and growth in 3 I change that around to get growth in 2 and settler in 3 so Moscow will go back to size4 instead of size 3.
2470: I try to cover as much ground as possible in order not to miss any huts, jungle is pretty bad...
2430 : Food before shields means the settler is produced and we go from size 6 to size 4. A barb appears north of Moscow.
Find the Germans to our south.
2390 : Indians and Scandinavians are on top of each other in the North. Barb goes away from Moscow
Need to build a warrior in Moscow for escort purposes, we also need to fill our food box a bit. Germans discover Iron Working but no deal possible.
2310 : St. Petersburg founded on coast with bgs and fish, the server is down so I can not see the dot map, will have to trust my
instincts ;) Berlin is half built on tundra and Germany is expanding northwards towards us. Founding the city frees up cash but
still nothing available on the diplo front.
2230 : Finally meet Spain north of India, they only have Alphabet : again looking for a trade-off but nothing can be obtained.
We have 65g and make 7gpt.
2190 : Germany has a monopoly on The Wheel. Vikings start Colossus.
2150 : settler produced going towards Fur site, St Pete produces warrior next turn and should be set on worker. No trades possible :(

The Moscow worker had to finish mining the plain, then roaded it and he is now irrigating the flood plain, the shields were needed for settler production thus the work order. Once the flood plain is irrigated it will allow us more MM elbow room though.

Server is down, I can not upload the save at the moment...

Still down !

Rubberjello would you please send me your email adress so we can keep going ?

Rubberjello@yahoo.com I'll be looking for it there.
I won't want to play it without looking at the dotmaps first though.
(I'm just a LITTLE bit intimidated being in the same SG with Sirian and you. I want to minimize any :smoke: moments!)

Caution is good. Careful attention to detail is even better. No need to be intimidated, though. Even if you get into trouble, on a landmass this large, should be plenty of places to hide out and lay low until the smoke blows over.

BTW, the file server is back up, with Uploads5 in use.

I sent Rubberjello the save yesterday by email and gave him some tips as to where to settle ;)
Will post a pic now that we have a new server :)
