According to Apolyton, Activision will finally release the CTP2 source-code. Now, I'm a big fan of CTP2 (even if I haven't got too involved in the community), but I'm no expert on CTP modding.
(In fact, I still can't get those modpacks to work :( )

What I'd really like to know is, what will this make possible in gaming terms. What new things can be created? Will there be a better AI? etc, etc?

Also, what won't be possible?

Thanks :goodjob:

Well first on the list will be a number of bugs and 'issues' that CTP2 has, most of the info can be found at apolyton.

You liked Civ right(1-3)? You liked CTP1+2? but you always thought, 'well why don't they have this unit/tech/building or function?', or 'Why is diplomacy worked out like this, why have i got so much gold now, why have.........why not this....etc etc' .

Well with some good coders(and i believe some of the origonal team are going to be involved) and plenty of game testing/feedback by the rest of us, you can have ALL that.

This means that CTP2 now has the potential to be the best 'civ' type game out there, bar none.
I've seen what the modders have done with it so far, and i know the potential the game has. It now has the chance to be the game it should have been(if it hadn't been rushed out).

That's good news for all civ fans, even those who thumb their nose at the CTP games for past grievences.:)

Well, short of getting the program to chat with you, or serving you a cold drink, almost anything is possible game-wise.

Depends on the amount of money and time spent on it and the skill level of the programmers.
