I know this request don't have many chances to be done but I have to try.

French leader should not be Joan. First, she wasn't the leader of France, only a hero. Second, as I said, she was a war hero, in Civ 3 this mean a unit who rise in time of war to help you, aka a great leader. In fact, Joan of Arc or Jeanne d'Arc, is the perfect example of a great leader in the game yet she isn't one.

Also, she is called a saint and it's weird because she is alive.

I guess Firaxis choose her because they want a parity in men/women leaders and a variety of title (another french leader would be called king or emperor).

But, hey, that's history and they have been few women leader. Joan is not one of them. So I hope to see Louis XIV or Napoleon as leader of the french in Civ 3: Conquest.

edit: mean Louis XIV not Louis IV :o

I agree with you all. Napoleon and Louis XIV led France to the top of the world at their time. Picking Jeanne it's just a compliment to the English (the ones she defeated).

I think we should collect signatures and send them to Firaxis. It's the only way we can ever get a Napoleon/Louis XIV official portrait...

Cheers!

I would like to see Napoleaon, but Louis XIV suits me.
Enough of Joan.

The artists are already too busy. They won't change it.

We just need to make sure they don't make the same mistake for Civ IV. ;)

*Sigh*, you're probably right. Any ideas on how can we avoid Jeanne on Civ IV? How can we tell Firaxis Jeanne is the most unpopular leader EVER?

Cheers,

haha i hate it when her she turns bald in later years. they definitely have to take her out.
how about charlemagne? i think he was french, he united a lot of europe in the 800's or so and tried to resurrect the holy roman empire

Yes, in essence, he founded the Holy Roman Empire and conquered much of modern day France and parts of Germany and elsewhere. He was "French", and would be a good choice as well.

To be very accurate, if I'm not mistaken, Charlemagne was King of the Franks. He became Emperor then. But he was not quite "French", even though he descended from Charles Martel, this guy who had stopped the Arab conquest in Poitiers (France) in 732. Merovingians (yes, like the one in Matrix 2 :D ) and Carolingians (guess at English spelling...) were 2 Frank dynasties.

France as a nation rose in 989 when Hugues Capet was actually elected King of France (against a Carolingian cousin or sthg...), thus giving birth to the famous Capetian dynasty (that somehow survived until the Industrial Age, with Louis-Philippe in 1830-1848, but there were cousins and stuff inbetween).

In 843, the Verdun Treaty divided Charlemagne's legacy between 3 of his grandsons, and so appeared Western Francia (leading to France then), Eastern Francia (or sthg, leading to Germanic thingy, Holy Roman stuff, and Germany in the end), and a 3rd territory that didn't last long between the 2 first.

So, I still claim that Louis XIV is the best choice as the French ruler. Musketeers (UU) ruled at this time (17th century). France was also the greatest European power, and so the greatest world power (considering China was cut off from the rest of the world). Well, that was France's Golden Age !!! :) 20 million people, IIRC, the biggest population. And Louis XIV made some great conquests along all the borders (that extended a lot). And I don't talk about the Art, but there is a lot to say too. France then lost its supremacy during the late 18th century, and by the time the French Revolution had come, England was already on its way on the Industrial Era, and that was it for France's domination. :(

LOUIS XIV ! Like in Civ2 !
