Actually, the winner of this Poll will be our fourth tech out from where we are now. Fear not, I'll try to get another Poll up before the end of Term.

Economics will be researched after Democracy in our Tech Path to the future. But because our SciRate was so efficient in today's t/c, we finished researching two Techs, Astronomy and Banking. This means Economics is no longer 5 Techs out, but 3. Below I have posted an update to the Middle Ages Tech Tree for the current year, 920ad. As you can see, we are now researching Printing Press and from there we will go to Democracy, followed by Economics.

Anyway, the new Options are:

Gunpowder
Music Theory
Free Artistry
Navigation

Please choose only one of the Options above as this is not a multiple choice Poll.

This Poll will remain open only as long as need be to determine a solid winner. Please vote now.

There is no Abstain Option

Discussion may be found here.

I'm really confused. The previous polls said nothing about researching printing press and democracy before banking and economics. I think that we need to start a prebuild for Smiths and go for Economics first, followed by the Democracy path. Why isn't this option being included?

You must have been on vacation DS. Either that or you don't read the Science Department thread or the Science discussion in the Citizen's subforum. This has been discussed in both. Things are starting to move quickly now and we must adapt to keep up.

And I believe the previous poll laid things out pretty well also, I'll go check. :)

EDIT: Yup, the previous Poll ( a cople down) showed Economics as a winner. Therefore it will be researched after Democracy. It also showed the Tech Path. Discussion on the topic was linked in the poll also. :)

Cyc, you're doing a great job, and this is definitely not a comment on the way you're handling things. I just don't think we have unanimity on the issue of going straight to Democracy.

Yes, but in the poll before that, I raised this as an issue. See this post recommended science path I do not believe that the ideas in the referred post got a fair hearing, nor did that poll make it clear where we were going after the tech chosen by it. In fact, the option of going straight to Printing Press was discussed in that poll, and the prevailing opinion was that we should go for Economics first. See this comment by Falcon02.

@all: Please stop to consider the full consequences of the order we research these 3 techs in, and make your opinion known here.

1.The ideas in the referred post did get a fair shake in the Science Department thread. Democracy sported a huge Support base in the Science discussion thread in the Citizen's subforum.

2. It is not the responsibility of any Science poll to make clear where we are going after the Tech chosen by it. If that were the case, we could eliminate polls. Discussion is the basis for determining our Path. The polls confirm the next Tech to be researched after the last Tech in queue.

And as far as your link to your statement in one of the Polls, I will quote you again, with your final staement on the matter....

"I say let's do Banking to leave all the best options open without waste, and see how we do with Copernicus' and with trade opportunities."

We did do Banking, and after the format change, the best options were left open without waste. If you are allowed to blurt into the grounded and discussed efforts of the Science Department by making a few posts and then putting up a Poll in your alarm to catch up, then I would point to that as a good reason why citizens are not running for office and why participation is sinking.

And if we do "change horses mid-stream" to satisfy your desires, then we would be wasting beakers and time.

I did not expect to see this much negativity, especially in the form of personal attacks.

I missed it in the previous poll, or I would have brought it up then too. It's a valid game play question. I thought the purpose of the forum was to bring one's opinions to the table. If they get rejected that's OK, but I don't expect to get ridiculed. Just who's the one taking a risk of driving people away?

In any case, we'll see what the people really think. At this moment the prevailing opinion is Democracy first, which is fine with me. The question has been asked and is in the process of being answered. That's all I wanted in the first place. :p

@DaveShack - As far as my remarks to you about your subversive plans to change the Science Department's current policy, they are pretty mild. Trust me. We've seen hair fly and teeth broken in these forums.

Had you made your initial point and discussed it with the Science Department, none of this would have come about. But apparently you thought it was your god-given duty to correct a situation that your felt was intolerable. You immediately went into protest (which is your right) and then posted a poll in hopes of changing the aforementioned policy. Even if you had stopped there, things wouldn't have developed as they did. You kept coming back with how wrong I was to oppress you personally by forcing you to abide by my instructions. You brought this on yourself. I apologize for my words, if you felt they were to direct or if they offended you. I was pretty hurt myself. But that's water under the bridge. I hope we can move beyond this slight verbal altercation and approach issues in a more appropriate manner in the future. Your fellow Cabinet member,

Cyc

Cyc,

You're right, I jumped on the issue too strongly and in too big a hurry, and I apologize for the way it was handled.

I'm always aiming at the decision and not at the person -- if you find otherwise please break out the fish smiley and wake me up. :D

Well, it appears that Gunpowder has won this Poll. I'd like to thank everyone who voted. I'll draw up the last Poll of my Term as Science Leader now.
