Duke of York has asked:

Question #1: What is the full name for the part of the world with the highest population density?

I would personally say the "Principaute de Monaco" which IS the statewith the highest density.

Manhattan?

I said Monaco already at the end of the last quiz Az.
Though I didn't use the fancy name.
And if you want to be pedantic, you missed out the accent, without which the pronounciation would be totally different.
So I restate my answer, this time in fancy dress: La Principauté de Monaco

It's immposible to answer it when you say "place". I can say it's my seat - it's currently 100% populated by me. :D

Região Administrativa Especial de Macau da Republica Popular da China

What is the connection between the following?
  1. Cumberland Hill (RI, USA)
  2. Quincy (MA, USA)
  3. Amber and blue/grey semi-precious stones
  4. An incurable lung disease
    [/list=1]

Wow, sorry to hear that Magnus.

Can't give it to you though. There's no way that granite can be thought of as a semi-precious stone (though I happen to like it).

OK some clues. Magnus is on the right track. The answer is the name of a mineral. That mineral is found at several locations worldwide, two of which are listed in the question. Two related varieties of that mineral make the two semi-precious stones, both of which have a two-colour lustrous sheen. A third variety of that mineral can cause the disease, but not because of any gas contained.

OK stormerne, for some reason I thought there was a precious stone that was formed from granite, but I realize that its quartz I was thinking of which can be very valuable but is only a COMPONENT of granite.

I have lived in Quincy twice (a total of 3 years), and currently live a stone's throw from Cumberland RI - should I worry?

I am thinking this has something to do with asbestos, but that's as far as I am getting.

No I don't think you should worry Magnus. That's quite a coincidence though!

You're getting very close. The lung disease is in fact asbestosis. Asbestos is a variant form of this mineral. Very few people realise that several other rather safer variants exist, and that a popular brown and amber semi-precious stone so often found on pendants is another quite safe variety.

The brown and amber version is, if I remember rightly, an oxidised version of the blue/grey one, and I've also seen a deep red variety. The brown and amber version of this mineral is in particular very well known and has an evocative name (a name that retains a common theme for other colours of this stone).

If you can tell me the name of the mineral and at least one of the names of the semi-precious stone Magnus, I think you should have this one.

Hmmm... another 12 hours and no answer...
OK I'm rolling up this one.

The answer is the mineral Riebeckite.

Some notable places where this is mined are: Socotra Island, South Yemen; Transvaal, South Africa; Schirmeck, Germany; Langesund, Norway; Krivoi Rog, Ukraine; Hamersley Range in Western Australia; Scotland; Madagascar; Quincy, Massachusetts; St Peter's Dome, El Paso County, Colorado; California; Oregon and Cumberland Hill, Rhode Island, USA.

The semi-precious stones are tiger's eye and hawk's eye. Strictly speaking a variety of riebeckite called crocidolite is "pseudomorphed" by quartz - a sort of atom for atom replacement - until there is no actual original riebeckite left.

The incurable disease is asbestosis and unmorphed riebeckite can be used as asbestos.

So I'll set a new - much easier - one!

Where is Flamsteed? And which ocean is nearest to it?

Spot on! :goodjob:
Flamsteed is indeed on the moon, a prominent feature towards the edge of the Ocean of Storms.
(I couldn't resist the mischief - even for an easy one)

Your turn to set the next question JBearIt.

Are questions on the moon even geography? Shouldn't they be considered lunagraphy? :D

Anyway, here's the next question:

What part of the US was renamed, thanks in part, to Humphrey Bogart? Please provide both the old name and the new name.

Another American asking another question about America... Someday I'm gonna get to ask the question... And then I'll put a question about Israel so tough that even I wouldn't know the answer!!!
