I have just posted in two recent threads where our decisions will be strongly affected by whether we enter Democracy or not. IIRC, we discover the Democracy tech in 5 turns.

Should we enter this new government right away, or do we have to prepare for it first?

I think we need to give careful consideration to any change in government. At the moment we have a very healthy income but we need to know exactly how that would change under democracy. We would suffer war weariness if we were to be attacked which would seriously damage our nation. This can only be alleviated if the war is short. The quickest way to shorten a war against us would be to have a force of units which could repel an enemy onslaught. At the moment if we were to be attacked in force we would lose many cities.

I think right now the main consideration regarding switching governments would be the impact on our wonder building program. A long period of anarchy could cost us a wonder if we do not time our change properly.

I think most people would agree we shouldn't switch governments until the wonder in Memphis is done.

Personally I'm kinda thinking we should stick with Monarchy until our infrastructure is better established, we're not sure the improved corruption will counteract the support cost of all 94 units.

Well, the wonder in Memphis transformed into a university. We're prebuilding Smith's in Gorina but my best estimate is that it'll take 23 turns to complete it. Do we wait to see if we get Smith's before going into anarchy?

I would guess that we are neck and neck in the race to Smith's as it is. Anarchy could seal the deal for us losing it.

I would like to see an all-out effort to get Smith's, especially after losing out on a wonder we thought we had locked in.

The impact of free commercial improvements will be dramatic! More income, higher science ratio - all of these help keep us as science leaders. Come the endgame, a slight advantage could prove critical to our success.

This is leaning towards waiting until Smith's is done or we lose it, but I don't want to assume too much because it could be a vocal minority.

Look for a poll in the near future.

If we are interested in shopping Democracy to everyone(as the Trade poll results indicate), then many other nations will endure anarchy as well. I think we need to do two things:

1. Spend some dough to investigate rival wonder cities, just to see how far along they are.

2. Watch those nations carefully to see if they descend into Anarchy. If they do, then we may be safe to do so as well.

Why let ourselves fall behind? Let us claim Democracy now, if we are able.
