Ironically, the best tech path for our war with Egypt may have Military Tradition as our 3rd discovery from now, with Magnetism leading the way.

Here is my post from the current Science Poll. Please read the following carefully and let me know what you think.

I am with DaveShack on this one, and I voted for Magnetism. Here is the chain of events I would like to see unfold by choosing this tech first.

1. With no immediate reason to choose otherwise, we enter Anarchy right away, with Magnetism in the Science queue.

2. After 4-7 turns, we enter Democracy. We should be able to discover Magnetism 3-4 turns after that.

3. After this, we enter the Industrial Age and head straight for Steam Power. I am not sure of research length, but it would probably be 7-12 turns(maybe less?). In the meantime, we keep an eye out for civs that have discovered Military Tradition and try to make a trade.

4. My hope is that we will have both techs by the discovery of Steam Power. Keep in mind that most civs will get to Military Tradition before Steam Power, so we have a better chance of getting the former in trade.

5. During all this, we will have had plenty of time to unleash many a knight out into the field. We then upgrade as many knights as possible, build our rails and take out Egypt. :D

So, in a nutshell --- within 20 turns, we can have a more profitable government, 3 important techs, and a ready army of Cavalry. But it all starts with Magnetism.

Vote for Magnetism -- and vote for a successful war!

I dont think launching a war whilst in democracy is that sound. If we are going to war we should do so under monarchy.

But it will be a short war, and our last war, remember? :D

Therefore, the war should be over well before war weariness is even a thought. Plus the threat of war weariness will ensure that we get our troops safely home as soon as possible. Not to mention the treasury and production benefits of reduced corruption -- we have several Markets, Libraries and more to offset full troop support.

Well if you think that our reputation with other civs will cope and we won't suffer signifficant ww then it is a good plan.
As you say democracy is an incentive to keep this war short. :)

As far as our rep goes, have you seen the FA screen lately? Everyone hates us already!

However, your point is well taken. Maybe once we commence, we should dole out some small gpt deals with nations on this continent so that they will stay neutral.

Agreed. The last thing we want is a lot of enemies to fight.
However I have bitter experience of paying civs not to fight me and finding them declaring war the next turn. :(
A military alliance ties us in for too long and it could be too risky without one.
Would ROPs do the trick?

I was thinking about that after I signed off last nite. I think we can handle RoP's with our neighbors for 20 turns. We have enough roads, so we won't really have to worry about visitors flooding our stategic pathways. Especially if we have plenty of units already on the frontlines.

Also, I think there is a good chance that some civs will pay us for an RoP, which only help to quicken our war efforts.

I am against any alliance to assist us in what should be a brief battle, and I think that an RoP may be the best way around that.

Donovan Zoi - this sounds like a good plan. What if the polls indicate we research Military Tradition first?

Could someone please post a poll on when we should go into Democracy?

Please include the options:

1. Right now
2. Sometime before the Egyptian War
3. Sometime after the Egyptian War
4. Never

Sound good? If not, please make any adjustments and send it on its way. If the public okays it, I would like us to enter Anarchy at the beginning of tomorrow's chat.
