wincustomize won't use native windows theming, therefore it's slower.
You could use a program called stylexp, but it's only a trial. There's also a patch for uxtheme.dll to allow win to run unsigned themes... Then you can download one from www.themexp.org . It should be quite fast, and gives nice results.
