Happyness, or rather said: unhappyness.

At this moment there are nearly no cities which would not riot next turn. War Weariness is kicking in and it is kicking in hard.

If I raise the lux slider to 40%, there are still some (Esquiline and Quirnial) cities going to Riot. With lux at 40%, tax 30% and sci 30% we get Ecology in 9 turns, at +129 gpt. With lux at 40%, tax 20% and sci 40% we get Ecology in 7 turns at -120gpt. The Domestic Leader can't live with those figures.

I think it is time for World Peace.
Fortunatley we have no more ongoing deals with anyone; no MA's, no MPP's etc.
The Only civ unwilling to talk to us is Japan. Since the Razing of Satsuma started this WW apparently, I fear that only making peace with everyonr except Japan won't remove all WW.

But we can then trade for Luxuries once we have peace, and I think we should do that as well. After the Peacemaking and the luxury trades we can re-asses WW and unhappyness.

Let's hope Japan will talk soon (after the capture of Tokyo), and we can have peace with everyone.

Be aware of the Japanese-Babylonian MPP (verified by PTW). Perhaps we should force the Babs to break that treaty. Another option is to not yet make peace with the Babs.

I, as Domestic Leader, can't make proper slider choices without knowing if we'll make peace, when we'll make peace, with whom we'll make peace, and how much effect it will have on happyness. The same holds true for the luxury trades.

If we want to go to Alpha Centaury, World Peace is the way to go.
I think we still are going to have some turns of rioting but we have to reduce the amount of them by signing Peace Treaties like Rik proposed.

It all depends on what the plans for the future are: peace or war?

I've got an idea: What if I make the next turnchat last only until Japan talks? I don't have much time next Wednesday for a turnchat anyway, so a limited one that lasts only maybe 2 hours would make sense. Once Japan talks, we should then sign peace with every nation that we are at war with. I don't want to sign any peace treaties until we can get all nations to talk, to prevent a continuation of the war if one of them is drawn back into the conflict with us. Until then, let's set the slider at 40% lux, 40% sci, 20% tax; it may burn a hole in our pocket but it will be worth it in the long run.

Also, it appears that Japan captured the Aztec town of Cempoala in the Aztec part of Quirnial province. If we take it it will be auto-razed; though this may cause war weariness to rise it will also probably bring Japan to the table sooner. It can be taken in the preturn if we use cavalry.

what's the Military Leader's advice?

No more actions that would WW please. Domestic is already on it's toes to keep it down and there are still some cities which would consist solely of entertainers, even with lux at 40%.

Please reconsider the "no peace with the world until Japan desires it" and the "Autoraze Campoala" plans.

Just capture Tokyo and the Japanese will talk. And if Tokyo flips; it flips. at this moment there are more urgent things on our minds than loosing that city.

Who cares what is left of the earth when we aren't there anymore ?

My opinion is we should accept peace with whomever will give it, and don't pursue any further offensive operations, so we don't trigger any MPPs which would get us back into a war.

I agree that we should pursue peace with whomever wants it. As long as we are not offensive, we will not trigger any MPPs. We need peace so we can reduce WW and possibly trade for some luxuries.

In order to be able to control unhappyness sufficiently I request our President Bootstoots to load up the game and only make peace, and perhaps some trades, but don't press enter, and do upload the save. Then Domestic can then sufficently decide how to tackle this unhappyness.

What do you think ?

I am also going to post this in the President's thread.

Domestic leader of millions of unhappy citizens.

I agree Rik Meleet. It is difficult to do any planning without knowing the outcomes of any peace or lux trades. Has the Trade Dept looked at available trades now and after peace treaties?

I signed peace with Germany and China offline, for the deals posted in the FA office. Here is the save:
Game Save

I do think we should attack and capture Tokyo with the purpose of bringing the Japanese to the table so that we can sign peace with both Japan and Babylon. If Japan comes to the table sooner then an attack of Tokyo will not be needed.

I don't see any instructions from the FA Leader to sign any peace deals. Can you point out where you recieved your instructions?

I viewed the FA office where DaveShack had several deals listed, and Inter agreed with me that it would not be prudent to sign peace with Babylon until Japan comes to the table though we should sign peace with Germany and China.

@ zorven: posted official instructions at the FA Office like you requested ;)

That's not what I see. I see a citizen, the FA Leader, and the President discussing some options. I don't think this was handled very well. This has the feeling of being "snuck through". There did not seem to be any formal discussions or votes on signing peace treaties, making resource trades, nor was there was approval from the Trade Leader.

Ok, then Boots should delete the offline gamesave and then we should all discuss if we should sign peace or not.
We have to wait for the Trade Leader but I haven't seen him post lately. And where's the Military Leader???

War weariness? Whatever happened to our peaceful builder nation that was reaching for the stars?

BTW, it is still not possible to log onto the demogame forums and get a handle on what is going on. Those of us who do not have time to download the save and look it over are com, pletely in the dark about the state of our nation. :(

I was requested by the Domestic Leader to sign peace treaties offline so that he could make arrangements accordingly. I apologize if this was not supported by the people, but there was not adequate time to poll these issues; the domestic office needed the information immediately.

@donsig - War was declared on us by a total of four nations. We did not declare war on any civilization ourselves, though we did sign numerous MA's with the civs that were not at war with us.

Boots,

There is always time to poll an issue, especially a critical one such as this. Or at least, there should be.

I am disturbed that from request to action took less than 12 hours and absolute minimal citizen input was gathered. This is a fairly major decision that was made without significant discussion.

Of course, Term 3 is a precedent for this.

I would also like to point out that it could be said to have been agreed to by general consensus. There was discussion about peace for some time now, and not a single dissenting voice was heard to that proposal in the FA office or elsewhere.
