Hi All,

Just been noticing a bit of an increase in the number of people picking posters up for grammatical or spelling errors in the OT forum. I guess it's understandable, but the posts aren't illegible and from my understanding, we weren't supposed to pick up people on these sorts of mistakes. These people probably don't speak english as a first language and it's probably not encouraging for them to have their main points ignored because their post wasn't structured perfectly or they can't spell accurately.

Anyway, my question would be - should something be done? Should we report posts like this, or just let it go? I mentioned something about it in one of my posts in a thread, but it seems to be far more widespread than just that one thread.

Pls report these posts when you see them and we'll do them in. Spelling police is not encouraged here.

And neither is grammar police....

But while we understand that not everyone is equally proficient in writing the English language, remember that this is not a license to "go nuts" with it. When people go overboard with inanities like "133t 5p34k", or other silliness, feel free to report that, too. (And there is STILL no need to harass them in the thread, BTW. ;) )

I kinda understand where bobgote is coming from though. I can understand typos and bad grammer and spelling inside a post (what if you typed in a rush!) but, some of the titles are so misspelled, they are illegible. Like Vietcong posted some about pop culture and culture was spelled something like "culter." I had no idea what this thread was about! I think spelling and grammer police is silly because there is NO way the mods could look throught every single post. However, I think that at least the titles of the posts should be spelled properly and have proper grammer. :D

We can always hope so. :)

Another note - anybody out to purposefully fill the forums with bad spelling and grammar will also be dealt with, like Padma had said. We will tolerate no disruption to smooth forum operations, no matter how ingenious.

Ha.

I remember a little brawl between two users because one was trying to get the other schooling help because they lived in the same area. The person who was using "bad" grammar was just being lazy and is actually quite a bright kid, but just chooses to be lax when posting. I try to make all my posts relatively accurate, but just comes from me being in a high level english class and I would be horrified if I did something stupid on an english test or quiz.

A question: How can you tell whether or not someone's "purposefully filling the forums with bad spelling and grammar"? Obviously if they post in 1337-talk or something, you know it's on purpose, but otherwise you can't really know, right?

For example, did WildFire simply and honestly forget a little thing called "punctuation" in his last post (;)), or is he plotting an evil conspiracy against us?

eeeerrrrrrrrrrr! grammar police, spelling police, where are they?!?
