Though I dont think the background looks like Nubia.
btw you might want to make the head fill more of the screen, on the normal leaders you can almost only see their heads

Yes, Nubia was either desert or flood plains, extending toward the very southern border with the african jungle, and highlands to the southeast, I believe...Correct me if I'm wrong...

Cool leaderhead. 
Although the background could technically be that, IMO you should go for one slightly drier. Other than that it looks good.
For an afterthought:
The industrial leaderhead could be dressed like the 'Mahdist' leader who took over Sudan and kicked out the English in the 19th Century.

very nice, I'd definetly use him. My main advice is try to make it more like the firaxis leaderheads in what we're allowed to see, so mostly head and only a little bit of chest. The chest even looks a little less bland than the rest of it. Otherwise looks great. Keep going.

much better. Making a black leaderhead is pretty tough, in large part because of the lighting and such on the skin. My advice would be is to cover him up as much as possible, like some sort of leopard loin cloth or something. Just a suggestion though.
I'll go find you some backgrounds for medieval, industrial, modern, etc. etc.
The medieval should be a muslim, while the industrial and modern should just be guys in suits, with the industrial guy maybe having a turban or something.

As for the middle ages preview, it actually looks pretty good, but you seem to think you can improve it so go right ahead, lol. I'll try to find some backgrounds.

Yah, a suggestion, make hid goate (sp?) go around his mouth rather then thru it. BTW I love his new facial hair. Mby you could do

I meant how the beard should look, I don't know, I said bushey, mby just fluffy and big, again using the wrong words, hence me being all stupid.

This is a VERY cool idea.
Some points:
In that middle age preview, his moustache is passing across his upper and lower lips.
His teeth look like mother-of-pearl! (Thats being really picky )
For some reason, I always pictured Nubians as decked out with gold jewelery. Could you add some earrings, necklaces, other facial jewelery to him?

About the background in the first pic. It almost seems as if the guy is floating above the sea. It just looks kinda weird.
